Dog Steals Food Like An FBI Agent, and Knows Double Check.

- With the iPhone camera on, we found Ellie, our Labrador dog, steals food from the table like an FBI agent (as we hide our food under caps and plates) when we were gone. After 2 minutes trying, she finally got it without knocking other things over (at 2:15). And she knows how to double check (at 3:06)

Years ago, our 1st black lab, Abigail was sneaking around the kitchen at 2am .I thought I heard something, got up and peeked around the corner... there she was, picking the top item off the top of the trash bag & setting it quietly on the floor. She then repeated this with a 2nd item and a 3rd and so on until she got half way in to the 10th item she smelt,then she turned her head and saw me peeking... God I miss her...

I was totally expecting him to put the bowl back up on the counter at the end of the video. Funniest was when he adjusted the frying pan so that it wouldn't fall. That's a thinking dog. I have two sneaky food ninjas of my own, who counter surf in the middle of the night, and boy, are they SMART.

Labs are one of the smartest breeds and you can see their level of intelligence just by how careful this dog was to not knock the pot off the counter.
😂😂😂Reminds me of "Murphy" our first family dog, a mutt. He was so wonderful. But one day I cooked roast beef for dinner & had it on the counter. My daughter call me from upstairs needing some help so I ran up. When I returned the entire YUMMY roast beef was gone. I was in shock & so was the family. But he was a wonderful dog, loving, wonderful with kids & protective. We would have a family birthday party every year for him & wrap presents his presents.. My husband would try to hold him in his lap at the kitchen table. Murphy always had a big smile & knew it was for him.
Imagine what a different world this would be if dogs had opposable thumbs.

It's odd. When I leave the house, my leftover food is almost always stored in the refrigerator. Not left to spoil on the kitchen stove under a lid.

This is like our house! 3 black labs ago, I reached down to get the rest of a meal out of the oven. I stood & looked down at the 2 plates beside me on the counter & the rolls I’d cooked were gone. I never heard or felt anything! Dumped the salad & got new plates & started over. Dogs weren’t allowed in kitchen anymore during mealtimes. Current lab stole a half of a tri-tip off the counter. I caught her coming out of the kitchen about midnight and she dropped it, wagged her tail & looked at me like “hi”.

This can be really dangerous, houses need to be kid proofed and doggy proofed or they get locked up for their safety, it takes nothing for them to accidentally turn a burner on and get burned or burn down the house.

I just thought the same thing. All that needs to happen is for a paw to accidentally hit upon one of the knobs to turn the stove top on.....Not good.

Only to come home and find that my furry children COULD reach and DID get into whatever it was that I thought they couldn't. So, idk. You'd be surprised. Especially cats......Cats are like furry ninjas.
well, I have a short dog lol. Like a teacup. I used to have a pit bull but she never was the type to jump on counters and things so I wouldn't know. And of course cats. Those things are secretly trained to do that.

My dog once counter surfed a full bag of takeaway Chinese ribs from the kitchen. I woke up the next morning and all that was left was a few scraps of the bag.

He's a precious little baby, but the dog never actually got any food. It was an empty bowl.
One of the best things about having a Jack Russell is that she can't reach food left out in the kitchen, and I can leave a plate of sandwiches on the table while I fetch something else, and they 're still there when I come back. Never wanted a small dog, but life is certainly much less stressful!

Our six Afghan Hounds( 4 were recues) were less obvious. Their heads were higher than the sweet girl's in the video. They would stand next to you and observe your plate, looking down at it. They knew my husband was the easiest person to overtake. so Bear would move in, ever so gently, and just rest his head, with some firmness, on my husband's forearm. You can guess what happened next. Sometimes John would go far so as to put his plate down on the oriental rug (Affies love them; together they look regal.) I do realize that some of you have said that this is the manner you use to have your dishes washed....Quite innovative, I should say.
(My father was one of the earliest FBI agents in 1936. I am almost glad he is not here to see how gutted this powerful Agency has come....)

2 simple solutions:
1) set up WiFi cameras, put a shock collar on the dog, close the blinds on your house so he can't see you, "leave the house" (actually sitting outside), watch the cameras and when he puts his paws on the counter/trash/fridge (anything he's not supposed to), zap him. it may take a couple times over a few days, but he'll learn quick if he's THAT smart.
2) invest in a metal crate and put the dog in it when you leave the house and when you're eating, keep a bottle of binoca or a "plastic lemon" juice bottle handy. whenever he begs or sniffs at your plate, mist binoca at his nose or offer him the lemon and give him a taste. the binoca doesn't hurt him, but his sense of smell being 1000x stronger, it's like napalm to his sinuses. the lemon juice will just taste 10x stronger to him than us and will make him pucker his lips and give him some vitamin C.
