I can see by the end result what you were going for, but I would have been so tempted to have stopped at about 1.25 with the brown. It looked awesome. ( Joe Perry bone yard came to mind ) I think you make some of the best guitar building videos on TH-cam, thank you. Every time I watch one of your videos I get a little closer to making some myself. Thank you.
Wow. Just...so pretty. Watching this is like watching someone make a sword or a wizard crafting an artifact. I'm so in love with guitars, and wish I could do stuff like this. Thanks for sharing this stuff with us.
You can, think of it like this: none of us could do it before we actually got the courage to try it, we may have planned it out in our minds hundreds of times and thought we thought of every thing, but the truth is you don't know until you actually do it, the more you do it, the more you learn . . . it is simply a trial and error process, it is just that that deters many from trying, the error part . . . but we do learn from our mistakes . . . word of advice though. . . do a couple cheap garage sale bodies first . . . it just takes the courage to do it RR out.
Hey good vid! I just got that Keda dye, doing a dark blue flame maple Tele. Try mixing a TINY bit of black to get darker. also mixing other colours might work. Keep up the good vids! GTL Custom Guitars
That looks awsome man.. im doing this now i was just wondering if you let the yellow dry before the brown or just throw them on right away. I want like a tobacco burst or similar
Hey BigD...This thing turned out beautiful. I have a question. Other videos I've seen people dye the guitar black first, then sand out black, but it really makes the grain pop out more. Granted, these were with colored finishes (blue and red come to mind). You went straight to the body with yellow dye. Is this a personal preference? Is it based on different kinds of dye? Is it just based on what you want the finished product to look like?
That's a really nice maple top. That axe is gonna be beautiful. Did U chamber it? How much will it weigh when finished? I really enjoy ur vids & respect UR work. Cheers!!!!
So its pigment and water. Do you think if I added a small amount of glow in the dark pigment to the solution on the last layer it would effect the stain in a negative matter. Because if it works it would be sick
Make us Les Paul like this we will do a step by step finishing assembly and demo if it doesn't turn out Gibson Custom shop quality we will pay for it !!
Did you look into my channel or just want to troll me. Been build for almost 20 years. 40k subs and 10 mil views of my stuff. Here is a short color list sample. th-cam.com/play/PLvHM0_cyyFLyDIGgamhZYe4f6ZH7_8K5I.html
I realy think this dude should send out such beautiful guitar for a pro burst instead of fucking around he does not know how colors work @2.17 it was done if you want the tiger flame
th-cam.com/video/zkVQZmApubQ/w-d-xo.html This guy did a killer Brock burst he has finished -499 the is his first attempt Your attempt to a Brock fell way short in my unqualified opinion get rid of the leather dyes and use the correct products from an unqualified you tube watcher You build great guitars ! I know most of the so called builders of the 90's where shipping bodies and necks around the US to get quality finishes Gibson have a finishing specialist
I think you need a little bit more practice before you're gonna be allowed to touch anything in the prs factory.😂😂😂😂😂😂 Although you definitely qualify as a master stainer at Gibson's custom shop.
I am sorry but it looks like the brown has been too heavy, and did not blend so well, it looks very amateurish to me. If I were you, I would sand back to the wood and redo it again. Take your time and not so heavy on the brown still a fair try,I personally would not pay for this. Sorry Alistair
Because of this video I am now building my own Les Paul
thanks! I have a bunch of vids out there on building a Les Paul
the initial yellow coat was pretty, i'd like to see something done w/ that color in the future. Great vid as always, BIG D.

Best commentary I've found on these type of videos!
+Brandon Sorensen thank you!
Nice work BigD, I have just started finishing guitars from kits and your videos have been a huge help. Thanks very much.
This looks very nice, will do something like this, on my second LP build.
Wow at certain angles the dark flames really pop! Great job!
sweet came out nice thanks for tips especially on the binding part.
Beautyful, it is more like a Honeburst finish. It looks so pretty.

Your Staining method is Fantastic, Love It, looking good. regards. Rudy.
awesome video. I got the Keda dye pack a well to finish a les paul.
I'm interested to see what this will look like with the blue inlays.
Very beautiful work!.

I love this video, wow. It is darn near a copper burst too. What could you have done or could do to get a PRS style cooper glow/burst finish?
What are the exact colors!! I'll go order some right now!
That looks awsome man.. im doing this now i was just wondering if you let the yellow dry before the brown or just throw them on right away. I want like a tobacco burst or similar
kinda looks like you eventualy worked out into a nice honeyburst.
found out my 2014 studio pro has a flame maple top under the paint job, I want to refinish it so bad now.
the yellow was cool, but burst was nicer. I'm gonna try with trans-tint on double cutaway solid body
Did you do the neck too? Thinking about getting one of these kits from AliExpress
Going back and forth a lot I see. Nice guitar!

Another badass Bid D
Didn't the grain keep raising for awhile??

Can you paint one that is Blueberry sunburst?
Start with brown to darken the flame, sand and go with yellow
What would you reccomend for a clearcoat to get the most gloss and depth of color for a combination like this?
beautiful ❤❤❤
Do you need to use a wood sealer before the stain to avoid blotching?
Why not use Luthiers powder dye? That is also an aniline dye and musch cheaper than Keda.
How much do you charge for a custom less Paul like the one you are making? I really want to get a 59 replica made!?
It's pronounced KEE-duh with two ees' sound, but with only one e. You can buy these off evibay for about $16.99. These are alcohol based (aniline).
Great,, nice top.. Can i buy that guitar
Very cool
thanks!
Use this keda dye with ISO alcohol, not water. Then it will POP.
Did you use yellow and red dye? Or yellow and something else?
Big D, after your final stain application, did you sand it again? Doesn't each application of water-based stain raise the grain?
The grain only raises once, …. not sure why, but that is how it works.
woow i love the colour :D
love this top. Was this a Gibson body or a kit? This looks better than some 4K Gibsons.
+Edward Prete I made the body: th-cam.com/video/A5ORLk1K3Ic/w-d-xo.html
do you have an email address @@bigdguitars .
Where did you mix your dye powder?
how much if you make me no like it with no electronics or hard ware just ready to fit everything
so good.
A proper beauty
thats defo more of a jimmy paige les paul color than a slash, slash's was a really dark tobacco burst

Where is a good place to get a maple capped les paul body? Everything ive seen has been vaneers
Around 1:31 it looks like the Joe Perry boneyard.
225 he should have cleared it that looked way better than doing these bursts with stains. man thats a shame
thanks so much for this very "delicious" video.
that is a beauty
I realy think this dude should send out such beautiful guitar for a pro burst instead of fucking around he does not know how colors work @2.17 it was done if you want the tiger flame
Haha ok. Done like 500+ bodies. But you know more than me.

Oh and you also sanded up and down the guitar against the grain very poorly done.Alistair
