Yeah Man Max. You hit the nail on the head with "A lot of old schoolers
Don't really want to deal with using our phone & wi fi and updates in an amp" remark.
Not that we don't recognize the sound advantage and cool'ness that many of them have.
But for us old guys its more like Pick a pedal or two, Plug in, Flip the power switch.
And play what you can play.
It's how we learned; and is still is where the love and fun of playing guitar for a lot of us is.
Cool amp thanks for sharing, I had a few small Blackstar amps ..Never disappointed.

It may be noted that Blackstar seemed to continue the idea of easily accessible controls (knobs) with their new Amped 2. It's the new pedal amp. It's got a lot of effects and they are controlled by knobs. That amp also has an internal power supply like the one he demo'ed.

Yup Yup , he also hits the nail on the head with the beginner to mediocre players , which is even where his own playing resides.
I can see beginners relating to him , they don't want some prodigy playing things that they will never attain. Max makes mediocrity seem ok.

Damn! That tone you dial in around 8:50 is astounding for a practice amp. I facilitated getting my brother a practice amp last Xmas, a Sawtooth 10-watt that sounds pretty good for a tiny machine (I tried out the Blackstar Fly and was thoroughly underwhelmed), but now I wish I'd waited!

I was thinking the same thing when the chord was going but to me the picked notes were muddy. I think that is my big issue the growl is nice with gain but breaks when picked in a way that clashes with the tone. Not trying to be picky lol just not digging the crunch on this one

I really like my little Blackstar Studio 10 6v6. Its got a 12" greenback and sounds really great in both the lead and the clean. What a great little amp. Also has an effects loop.

    • @gregoryhall3156
      @gregoryhall3156 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Ummm… probably a typo, the Blackstar Studio 10 has a 6L6 not a 6V6 (with the other two Blackstar Studio 10 models having an EL34 or KT88 power tube.) I have the Blackstar Studio 10 6L6 myself (Surf Green model and just ordered one of the limited edition red tolex KT88 Studio 10 amps on clearance for $399. Love my Studio 10 6L6-its a great plug and play tube goodness amp and perfect for home/hobbyist/studio play. But at usually about $600-700 retail-quite a bit pricier than the small solid state Blackstar amp in this demo-so not really an apples to oranges comparison. I do think that the Blackstar Studio 10 amp series (and the Vox AC10 which I also have) are some of the best bang for buck low watt tube amps-especially compared to a Fender Blues Jr or Fender Princeton Reverb reissue. Yeah the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe is only a bit more expensive than the Blackstar Studio 10 but its 10lbs heavier and 40 watts and not something you can play at home at bedroom levels without buying a $300-500 well made attenuator to tame its loudness. Now if Fender were to modify the Hot Rod Deluxe to have a built in power attenuator that allowed you to drop it down from 40watts to 4 watts-Fender would probably greatly increase their sales. (Blackstar HT Club 40 which comes in EL34 or 6L6 flavors does this exact thing for similar price range and also at about 40lbs.)

    • @jimmygrant3151
      @jimmygrant3151 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@gregoryhall3156 yeah, 6L6...but I still replaced the speaker with a Greenback. Sounds great. It's broken now. I left it on overnight and it overheated. Either the tubes are burned or the power supply or a capacitor. My local tech guy will fix it as soon as I come up with the money. Kind of sucks to have an amp burn up just by leaving it on. My Hugh's and Kettner has an automatic off timer which is really cool.

This is genuinely, just an amazingly featured, fully enough featured at least amp, at a more than reasonable price.
Sounds good, covers all the needs and bases genuinely solidly and then some, and can genuinely get sufficiently fricking loud.
I’m not quite of the generation of having had loads of personal experience with or enough time spent with one to develop a genuine affinity or appreciation for the Roland Cube, so the debut 15 is easily my favorite or easily go to recommendation for a practice or just bedroom amp.
Seeing them for $80-90, regularly, is great, let’s me keep recommending and recommending it, makes it a more than genuine no brainer.

Honestly it's a kick ass setup. Does absolutely everything. The Zoom effects unit has 2 12AX7 tubes in it so it's got a really warm, crunchy sound. If you get the opportunity to grab one I would highly recommend it. I have a 30 watt tube amp as well but to be honest I prefer the Blackstar.

I always prefer rooster-head knobs. There's never a need to lean in and read teeny numbers - I can look across the room and see the settings... all of our eyes get worse over time, and rooter-head knobs are wonderfully kind for that! I too echo the JOY of having a standard power-cable. My example is that, for many, amps stack against some wall, barely moving and power cables get dropped down behind shelves, amps, whatever - and yanking out one particular power-brick is a hassle. And leaving it behind is soooo easy to do.

My main amp is still my Blackstar id 60 TVP Head. It's like from 2012 .. they made it a 60 Watt and a 100 Watt. But everyone seemed to like the 60 Watt better. They were even selling the 100 watt one a year later for $100 off . So. New was ,$499. The 60 Watt was $399. But by 2014 all the outlets were pushing the 100 watt version on closeout for $399. Anyway. The id 60 TVP Head has modulation. Reverb. Delay. I.S.P. And trans-tube tech. So you can dial between kt88. 6L6. EL34 ECT. Like 6 or 7 different power tube emulations.. and I have it pushing 6-12" Celestion Speakers.. 4 vintage 30's and 2 Rocket 50's. .I play that rig. Useally at 3. Or 4. On the master volume in my loft. And . I really don't need more

I still like my orginaal releas of the ID Core stereo 40 watt that I plan to mod, adding a pair of switched 1/4 in output jacks for a pair of vertical tower 4X12 cabs that can be added into my surround sound system as I can connect the amp to the surround receiver through an adapter cable into the CD input and adjust levels for best sound , and with a custom switching box i designed for it as well all the speakers can be used for a fuller sound overall. tht way my custom wird Stellarcaster can shine brightly through this outstanding hybrid ri8g I have made with many different components from wherever i get them.. the twin tower cabs of my design and which i will build to my specs. are only a part of the vision I have for my total system. oh yes, the guitar sports 3 quad rail humbeckers with coil split , vol and tone each and a bypass switch to have the bridge and nec together regardless of the 5-way switch position. so iin pos. 1 or 5 just the two and in any other pos. all 3 are in circuit , and each can be coil split independadtly.. how many setings that is, I haven't gone to the trouble of calculating yet. lol ... some day, but thats for when it all works right and i get all the parts sonnected as they shoound be the wiring is a modified Les Paul 50's version with an added third pair of p/u's with the 5-way insted of a 3-way selector. all in a hand made stainless steel pick guard extended to hole the extra pots and seitcvhes. the paint is stars and planets, space theme to match the name and the way that it's out of this world build concept. pnly the electronics need to be finalized for it to be finished and working as designed. wish me luck with all that soldering of wires and pots to make it work right. lmao ...

These days, the living room guitarist doesn't need an amp with a speaker. They only need an amp with a headphone out, like a pedal board pre-amp or "amp-in-a-box" that all of your pedals feed into. Most of these devices even have cab sims/IR loaders. If you're doing a live gig, you can either feed the pedal amp into a power amp and speaker cab, or even directly into the front of house PA system using the cab sim/IR loader. It saves so much on bulk and cost.

I love my blackstar fly for playing in living room with movie going. Just quiet enough to not piss off the wife. But mine doesn't always keep the delay on. There is a button to turn it off. A fun thing to do with it is take the headphone out and run it to the return of the fx loop on my 50watt tube head and 2x12. It sounds awesome that way and makes a great sound. Gets muddy with isf knob dimed out but put it around 9 o'clock and its great clean or high gain with a stronger power section. Should give it a try sometime.

It say's this about the ISF control. (EQ/ISF (Infinite Shape Feature)
The patented ISF control allows you to choose the exact tonal signature you prefer.
Fully CCW has a more American characteristic with a tight bottom end and more
aggressive middle, and fully CW has a British characteristic which is more ‘woody’
and less aggressive) I guess counter clockwise and clockwise.

Great video. I have the ID: Core 10 that sounds really good. I run it off a homemade battery pack. I don't think I've used the power brick more than a couple of times. But, I do understand the benefit of the standard power cable. How well does this amp take pedals? I have a battery powered Affordaboard pedalboard.

I've heard the Spark amps are phenomenal too, but they're not cheap for beginners, at around $240-350 or so, and dependent entirely on the phone app and all that to
really get any good tones out of them. It looks great, but if you don't wanna mess with the app all day to get the sounds you want, a basic practice amp is better and cheaper.
You can always buy a Zoom FX processor and run that through a small amp, which I do all the time.

They are not entirely dependent on the phone app but yeah it’s necessary to fully unlock all the features. I have the Spark 40 which has more knobs, you can access 8 or so amps and most effects without the app.
The mini is 199 and is the same brain as the 40 but few knobs. If one can afford the 199 the spark is a far superior practice amp. I’m not saying this $100 black star is bad I’m just saying the spark is amazing if you can get it.
I’ve shown mine to several of my friends who are pro players with decades of gigging experience and all were extremely impressed with how good it sounds AND feels under your fingers.

But will it take pedals. I already have a katana mini that has all that on it and probably sounds better for a quick practice on the edge of the bed. Most people, even beginners would want to run an overdrive , distortion or a reverb for serious practice. That is a sharp looking amp and thanks for the heads up on the products. I would consider buying it just because it looks cool.

Wow I am sitting here looking at two practice amps i have hear both well known brands both from the 90's neither can do what that little monster seems to Good point about starting out and getting first amp on budget in my day budget did mean budget some asian manufacture or catalogue brand This is what can also lead to a lot of disappointment You learn the tune maybe note for note but going through one of those amps it sounds nothing like the original etc even if u add a effect or two Decent starters amp that not break the budget but also usable as a gigging amp Almost unbelievable. I may invest purely because it sounds great If your not sponsored by Blackstar show them this vid Lol how to sell a product. Great review and show
