I love my bolt gun. I have a 22” Shilen select match in a Light varmint barrel. It loves A2200 and 58 vmax at 3550, under max bolt load. Great varmint gun
Wade, next build look at an aero solus (rem 700 footprint) action. Can be found regularly on sale $650-$750. Mine paired with a proof barrel shoots great. I am going to build a short 22 creed off of it based on some stuff you built
Very cool Wade, one building it to their own personal preference is all the fun. Me, now that we're talking bolt gun, I would have to jump up to the 6mm Creedmoor. But that short of a barrel? best to just use the ARC. Perfect setup for a subsonic 300bk.. You got me Thinking about another build..... Dam you Wade!
That lil rifle behind ya on the left is nice. Wouldn’t mind seeing that in a video/podcast with emphasis on the Eotech/magnifier combo abilities in a hunting scenario.
Been thinking of building a ultra light 6 arc on a howa mini barreled action with the light contour barrel (22" factory) and chopping it down. If you are looking to build and review one, the Howa mini actions are attainable by most people for a build and would interest me to see more content on.
Howa mini actions with either a factory carbon fiber stock or carbon fiber wrapped barrel are just under $1k, and @ or under 6 pounds. If you get carbon stock w/steel barrel, $200 more and cut it to 16" for ultralight and compact.🤘submoa guarantee from factory. Hopefully the aftermarket for the action grows.
Sweet rifle. I wish the factory Hornady ammo ELDX could actually do 2800fps box velocity even from a 30” barrel. Sadly I think they’ll just do 2500-2600 but whatever they do, it seems like plenty of satisfying results for hunting inside 500m and hitting steel from 500-1000m. Be nice to know the actual velocities for these factory loads that are being well hidden everywhere, or just not really validated.
You mentioned the intention for ultra lightweight compact hunting platform, so what would you choose for that build? Would it still be Zermatt action? Be nice to know what parts and stock etc you’d select and what exactly you define ultralight and at what point would you no longer consider it ultralight?
Legit question and no judgement. If you are going to a bolt action, why not go on up to a 6 Creed? You would get even more velocity gains with the same projectiles out of the same barrel length. The .473 bolt face gives you the most options for rifle make and model. Action would just be a very small amount longer and heavier with some actions, burn a bit more powder, a bit more recoil, and shorter barrel life. Those are the only downsides I see. Am I missing something or is it just that the 6 ARC is enough for this use to not bother with those shortcomings?
Good question, has lots of it depends answers I’ll save for a podcast for full nerd out. Short answer is if you want a short platform, 16” and shorter I’d rather have the 6 arc . Longer barrel go for the 6 creed sure . But the arc has probably double barrel life, and it’s gonna be more efficient with its powder . Less recoil etc. So , it all depends. But if you are just plinking long range, hunting whitetail sized game within capable ranges, I see nothing wrong with the 6 arc in bolt gun configuration. Especially being I ran a 16” for that very use case last season and loved it. It all comes down to user preference at the end of the day. Some may say why? I say why not.
It’s about time that we get back to some “Bolt “ action , instead of all the AR humbug . It seems that quite a few AR types just don’t understand the velocity/performance gains that a Bolt offers in this Cartridge. Keep up the good “ Bolt “ work . 👍 Ken
Ironically, tests have proven that a gas gun and a bolt gun shooting the same ammo with the same barrel length have nearly identical velocities. The difference only comes once you start reloading (just speaking on the 6mm arc) since you can run 60,000 psi out of a bolt gun and only 52,000 psi for a gas gun. All factory ammo is going to be loaded to safe pressures for a gas gun
@@txpredatorhunting I've got 3 different brand rifles for sale because none of them like any of the 4 Hornady loads, Federal, Remington Winchester don't sale ammo for 6arc tired HSM it was worse

I'll never understand the mentality behind using a super short barrel, sacrificing velocity, only to add a ridiculously long suppressor just to not have to wear ear pro.
6 arc in a bolt gun ? Why? It's OK in a AR platform as it edges out the 556 .. But even then the 22 arc is better But for bolt gun...6 creedmor for true performance... 6 arc is anemic in comparison. Love the vid. I have a howa mini in the 6mm arc and love it. Shoots good.
Another great video….this rifle looks freaking legit! Cmon Wade, what are we talking? You getting anywhere near 2800 fps with 100gr+ bullets??
Heck yes Wade. Or use a bag on the blind window frame and a tripod rear on the arca rail. Been there done that.
The bridge that your impact is mounted on is called a “diving board”. Great rifle.
Yea, I lost the word completely for a moment.
Most people are missing the much higher pressure spec’s for 6 arc on the bolt action

😆 best way to settle the argument of what caliber and what barrel length…. Have them all!!
Im very interested in learning more about clip on night vision/ thermal. I currently have a smaller thermal on an ar only because eye relief sucks.

Very cool, how do like the folding stock? How solid does it lock up? Any wobble? And noticeable change in lockup since it was new?
One of the best as far as locking and ease of use. Not the most appealing looking.
