Why Luminar Neo Single Image HDR ROCKS!

  • Creating a single image HDR with Luminar Neo using the new HDR Merge feature quite frankly, simply ROCKS. If you've ever tried to make fake HDR, you know the twists and tricks needed to pull it off, and it's a LOT of work. With the new Luminar Neo extension HDR Merge, your photo editing process had been made much more simplified.
    Fake HDR (or Faux HDR) has been around a long time. While it can be done, as I said earlier, it's a bit of work. When Skylum Software updated their Luminar Neo with the new extension for handling bracketed images, it stated it could handle from 1 and up to 10 images.
    I decided to do a single image HDR experiment and see how well it worked. As you've seen in the video, I'm quite impressed.

    If you have a lot of images of high contrast scenes, or if you have photos you WISH you had bracketed so you could do HDR and pull out more detail, then this is just the video for you.

    Thank you very much Darlene for this video. Wow!!! The power of Luminar Neo is infinite. I’m using since 6 months until now (the most recent with the latest update) and I love it. But, respect to you, I’m almost a beginner 😅. I will continue to follow you because there are lot of tips from you to learn. Have a good week Darlene. Greetings from Switzerland 🇨🇭 😊

    Tried this single image HDR merge procedure with my oldest digital image taken in 1999 with a Sony Mavic MVC-FD 5 & recorded on a 3.5" floppy disk. Original image was a 640x480 jpg, 66KB. Results were very impressive, with great detail. Very much impressed.

    Hi Darlene At 7:46 you explain how Neo HDR strips away any RAW edits. I get around this by first developing my RAW files in DxO photolab and exporting the developed RAW files as DNG's. Because of DxO noise removal technology and camera and lens corrections I get a very clean DNG to run through Neo HDR. Doing this provides an excellent HDR TIFF and generally because the DNG file is so clean I don't have any noise issues. I develop my RAW file to be very flat and try to balance out my histogram. This give Neo HDR a lot of information to work with 🙂

    • @DigitalPhotoMentor
      @DigitalPhotoMentor  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I use lightroom as my main editor too and could do the same. I just noted that so people know about it

    Why are my single RAW images created in HDR in Luminar Neo become a TIFF File and how do I correct it to a JPEG.

    • @DigitalPhotoMentor
      @DigitalPhotoMentor  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's how it works. You want a TIF because that's a 16-bit file with more information than an 8-bit jpg can hold. You can edit the TIF and then export it as a JPG

    I tried this on a snap of my husbanding in the snow and I was really impressed withe the result. But I imported that image directly into Luminar Neo's catalog. I still use Lightroom as my main catalog, and so I want to use the plugin to get to Luminar. I tried to import from Lightroom, and also as a smart object from Photoshop and I can't see the HDR merge panel. I've had a good look for the option in the menu too. Is it only available for photos in the Neo catalog or am I missing something?

    • @DigitalPhotoMentor
      @DigitalPhotoMentor  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm good question. Let me test and get back to you. I haven't tried that

    • @DigitalPhotoMentor
      @DigitalPhotoMentor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So I tested and you cannot use the HDR merge extension as a plugin for LR or PS. It's ONLY visible in the stand-alone version. So no you didn't miss anything

    Have had Luminar Neo for two months now and am NOT impressed by the single image HDR processing, contrary to what this video suggests. The first portrait photo the videographer processes in HDR Merge looks entirely unnatural (as the videographer acknowledges), but I find almost ALL of the single images I process through Neo HDR Merge, including landscapes, look entirely overprocessed and unnatural, IMHO. Just my two cents worth on the subject...

    • @DigitalPhotoMentor
      @DigitalPhotoMentor  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It really depends on the image and what you do after HDR merge also. Bring back some black and see how that goes
