    I have been there. It was only a week but it was the longest week of my life in a motel with my husband,daughter,dog and two cats. I had an ectopic pregnancy and needed emergency surgery. My landlord threw me out because I was 3 days late on the rent. I had been unable to work for 3 weeks and was extremely weak. I had lost half my blood. Luckily I was able to become roommates with another family in financial troubles and we were able to get on our feet. I hope the best for all of these families. I hope they are okay now.

    It's a shame, really. The thing is that there is no food shortage in this country. What there is, is a food distribution problem. Go look at all of the dumpsters behind grocery stores, and look to see what restaurants throw out every day. There is no need for this terrible amount of waste to be happening.

    • @SemperAugustusBubble
      @SemperAugustusBubble 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    • @jasonsims202
      @jasonsims202 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Joshua Smith I do agree , as I worked many of fast food joints, I have seen tons of food going to waste , even like when I used to work at McDonalds all the leftover meat what the manahers didn't want after the waste count would get all thrown in the trash . whole trays of nuggets , chicken patties . all in the trash to be smashed at the dumpster . Pizza places now if no one claims any mistake pizza , or leftover i seen stacks go pile up in the back to be thrown out next day . I would take my mistakes , or claim the leftovers to feed homeless folks .

      Your heart goes out to the kids, but you also feel embarrassed for them, especially those who are in their teens. It's awkward enough adjusting to growing up, but having to do so in a neighbor's home, or some motel, and then to have your story told on the news for the world to see., there's no way I could do it.

    The current definition of poverty is ridiculous. The current definition is $23,040 for a family of four. In 1971, the definition of poverty was equivalent to $31,680 today, adjusted for inflation: the govt is skewing the stats to make us believe that fewer are in poverty.

I’m not saying we shouldn’t help others, but at this moment families here are going homeless and hungry too. We are at the point where we have to decide between; BIG GOVERNMENT OR BIG BUSINESS!! Going hungry for days on end when there was literally nothing in the house and when there was it would be two loafs of bread to feed three people or a couple weeks, not knowing if I was going to have a home after school, in the winter it would warmer outside then inside (-15 degrees), not knowing if there would be enough money for clothing when mine was so worn I couldn’t wear them anymore, sadly the list just continues.
      As bad as it was it has in many ways made me more tougher, resilient and resourceful but it’s no way to live ether however it’s prepared me for if the worst of anything to come.

    Many of us are struggling but we should help each other when we can. Recently I was in Hawaii, I saw lots of homeless people; many live in tents along the beach. While in Waikiki, everyday after lunch I would share my food. I was so depressed by what I saw I went to the mgr. of the Cheesecake Factory & asked for his help in feeding them. He informed me they work w/an organization that feeds the hungry but he helped anyway. There were a lot of smiles on their faces & I felt so happy & grateful.

    I recently watched the 2005 movie 'AMERICAN JOBS'.
    In 2004 a teacher had student go to store & see where items were made.
    .
    In 2004 the students were STUNNED to see so little is made in America.
    We have been exporting our jobs for years.
    This problem has been brewing for years.
    .
    From 2000 to 2007 we lost 39,000 factories in the US.

    I personally can say that the tiptoeing around because you’re afraid of being kicked out is such a real and strong fear. No kid should have to carry that weight on their shoulders.

    This is so terribly sad and these children are such an inspiration. I believe that this experience will make them stronger, far more compassionate and grateful for everything they will ever have ~ now and in the future. These are not kids with a sense of entitlement so common with the young today. Getting though such a horrible time will give them the strength and determination to tackle anything life throws at them. Bless them all...

    When I was young. I remember we always don't have enough money to buy anything. We don't have TV. We don't have a telephone. We don't complain about food. We are grateful on what little we have on the table. I even remember my Grandma going to a neighbor to ask for a loan just to put food on our table.
    Our life was not easy but I have a very happy childhood. I learn to appreciate family values. And that money can't buy you everything in life.

    What is really needed not only in America but in many countries, is teaching financial literacy at school: how to budget expenses and develop the habit of saving.

    @DenTimesTwo Im not surprised. Your comment speaks volumes about the attitudes/reasons WHY no one gets any "help".....it all comes with a price. HELP comes with a price. You should give 20 dollars to a random homeless family IF YOU ARE ABLE TO ANYWAY!!

    Poor children. The hard part is not to live like they've been living but it's to remenber how they used to live and can't do anything to return. Children don't understand how things works and they don't have to. I think they don't have to face how hard the world it is because they'll have enough time to find out. But believe me, the north-america poverty is not even close of the real poverty like in third world. They are lucky and they don't even know.

    This country is suffering a MORAL dilemma. When you allow the greedy and corporations the freedom to exploit the less fortunate then this will always be the outcome. There should be a universal income for each and every single American so that they at least will never be homeless. And mandatory government funded job training centers to help jobless people find good paying jobs. So long as America chooses profits over people, this cycle of poverty will never end.

    I feel bad for these children, but the poverty that children experience in third-world countries is a pity. These children have their families, live in relatively clean surroundings, and have food in their stomachs. Poor children in the Philippines live on the streets, and have to dig in the trash for food.
