52a out / D6 in is my preferred choice out of these combinations. Gives the best overall balance in my opinion. I didn’t like D6 out at all, but felt it shone inside. Thanks for doing these tests.
honestly d6 has the most versatility. it sounds boomy in the port and outside, and has a cool attack inside. Beta 52a really only shines in the port position, everywhere else it seems a little too papery for the style that i like. thank you for this video.
Definitely the 52/d6 give the most complements to either configuration. Definitely a better match with more options together. Thanks for the very comprehensive comparison. It really helped me decide the combo I would go with. That's just my opinion. They all sound great!!! Cheers!!!😜👍
I have the D112, and I hear in this video exactly what has been driving me nuts lately! it picks up a lot of bleed...the resonant heads of the toms. The Shure and Audix sound much better to me in that regard. Thanks very much for this video.
Yeah, this is wonderful. Tired of comparing the D112/52A for myself I searched for some other comparison. Glad I clicked on yours. I unloaded my D6 years ago as I absolutely hated it. I generally don't bail on a mic entirely, especially an inexpensive one, I'll just shelf it, but now I think I'll pick one up again, damnit, WHY?! lol Believe it or not I used to get a really good, full kit recording from one carefully placed SM57 (really good for one 57 anyway, just for getting ideas down). Must've been a lot to do with the spot I was in. As much as I like to keep it simple I'm pretty sure I'll be going with 2 mics on my kick. Sold! Thanks for the perspective.
Thanks so much 😁 They all have their own vibe. The lack of mid presence makes the D6 miss a lot sometimes but I love the low end from it. Absolutely, made 2 57 video recently. Love experimenting with minimal miking th-cam.com/video/ySZXluZBq1E/w-d-xo.html
Excellent shootout !! Just the three mics I'm looking for. I think the D6 has a modern rock/punk/metal sound with a very pronounced attack and cut in the low mid frequencies, the D112 is more vintage boxy sounding, very fat and the Beta 52 has a more balanced sound. If I could only buy one, it would be the Beta52, but the best combination for the sound I'm looking for is D6 in + Beta 52 out
Man, you really went to town here. I like the Beta52 in / D6 out for a rounder tone, which is perfect for some songs. It seems the D112 and Beta52 don't compliment each other as much as the D6 compliments either of the other two. In the drum mix, the D6 alone doesn't seem to cut through very well. What is the port hole size on your drum ? Could you get the Beta52 anywhere you want, inside the drum, with an Aquarian 4.5" port hole ? Thanks for sharing this excellent video.
Great observations. Yeah the D6 can sound soft in it's mid range. I love the low end and top end out of it though 😁I'm pretty sure the head on this drum has a 5" port and can fit any of these mics inside no problem.
Really liked the D6 out and 52 In. On a side note, what are you using on your snare? A 57? Sounds nice and snappy, reminds me of the first hit on "Bulls On Parade".
@@DonalBowens Really what we're all fans of without knowing it most of the time is Andy Wallace and Brendan O'Brien's snare samples. Used on everything from Rage, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, 311, Korn, Incubus, Slayer, pretty much everything rock/alternative/metal from 1987 to 2010.
Great work on the video but my setup has a non ported bassdrum O dont wanna port, think I like the beta 52 most here Ps I went from coated remo ambassador always with snare until now playing a UV 1 and it sounds fat.@DonalBowens
Preferred the D112 in the port on the single. Very comprehensive analysis. Thanks!!
D112 in the port covers so much. Love it!

They worked great together 😀 Thanks for watching
yep :-)
Nice thorough demonstration 👍
I liked the Beta 52 in the port for a single mic solution and the D112 in/D6 out for a two mic option.
Thanks Dexter, and also I knew I recognised your channel. I remember checking out your cymbal demos. Quality stuff 😁
The d6 has been the winner in all vids ive seen so far. Gonna go for it. Thanks.
Great mic. Thanks for watching 🙏
Audix D6 for the win!
Brilliant shootout vid mate!👌
Thanks bro 🙏😁
I just ordered one
Excited and nervous
This is how microphone reviews should be done

I love the low end you get out of it 😁
Best kick mic review I've seen
Thanks a mill Pete 😁🤝

D112 & D6 (in/out both) for me!

Can’t wait to check that out after work!

Might want to to tighten that bass drum spur wing nut next time! 😅
Watching that as well as the tag on inside kick mic stand flop around was triggering

i just watched the hole video to see your Bass Drum Spur fall off :-) ... just kidding, one of the best comparisons out there! Thanks for sharing!
🤣 thanks so much 🙏
You should do a shoot out for kickouts only. Like comparing the beta 52a to something like a subkick.
Audio D6 in, Beta 52 out...is where it's at. But, might sound better with the Beta 52 in the port.
MARAVILLOSO APORTE MUCHAS GRACIAS ¡¡¡¡
Gracias 🙏

Thanks so much. I’m a big Brad Wilk and Rage fan so that’s sick. Yeah it’s an SM57 😁
@@DonalBowens what snare and drumheads did you use ?
@@Dwolfmusic In this video a Pearl Bronze Sensitone 14x6.5 with Evans G2 top and remo hazy ambassador bottom.

Your teeth are IMMACULATE
😂 Cheers bro 😁
D6in+52out❤
The D6 out D112 in is a nice combo if you're trying to keep the bass drum and bass player competing for the low frequencies IMO
Yeah I really enjoy this combo too. Love the sub and low stuff from the D6 on the out and the attack on the D112 in 😁
D112 Out D6 in 4 me.
Nice and tight 👌
Who doesn't tighten down their spurs before playing?...that guy! 😅
My take? Two mics are better than one.
don't look at the monitor, look at the lens
Leg bass drum is loose
52a out
Great video 👏
Thanks Wayne 😁🙏
