    This is how you do a mic comparison! So many dudes don't add the cymbals and rest of the kit into the exercise, and this just illustrates how important it actually is to explore all aspects of how the mic will actually be used. Most helpful.

    The D6 always sounds like an over processed sample to me...whether it’s kick or floor tom, it just doesn’t sound like a real drum. A lot of people are into that sound but it’s not for me. The 604 was a nice mix of depth while picking up the skin and shell tones.

    • @VinceHeretic
      @VinceHeretic 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I went with e604’s based on this. IMO, perfect combination of punch and rumble. The D6 was too kick-like, I mean it IS a kick-drum mic and as a matter of fact I use it on my studio kick with a sub, but I want my toms to sound like toms. I’m impressed with the e604’s.

  • @zDerezzed
    @zDerezzed 4 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    The complete lack of mids in the D6 is so obvious here. I love it on the kick simply because it's essentially a plug and play mic, but man it really is limited in other uses.

    • @DuroSamples
      @DuroSamples 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's a Kick mic boss. Also lovely on Guitar Amps-in the back. Its pre EQd for KICK DRUMS. It's whole existence is to be a kick mic. Nothing more...
      On the Floor tom will work better than any of those on the video. That cut that it has is exactly what we take out when EQing a tom or a kick drum.
      Removing the unwanted Low Mid and let thru' the fundamental tone and the attack.
      Cheers!

  • @DuroSamples
    @DuroSamples 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    KEEP in mind folks that the D6 is a pre EQd KICK mic. The other mics will have to be EQd to where the D6 is to make them stand out in a mix or live situation.
    The beta 52a and the D6 are the best of them for Kick Drum. The Sen e604 sounds best for RACK TOMS than the others but I would use a D2 or D4 on toms.
    The D112 is a horror to EQ in live or in the Studio. All that Low Mid mud sounds like diarrhea. AND you will end up cutting the heck out of it and still will not come close to the D6 or Beta 52a.
    The D6 is a plug and go mic. No need to fuzz on the console.

    • @darwinsaye
      @darwinsaye 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Spot on. Everyone on here favouring the mic’s that are reflecting what the drums “really sound like” is ignoring the fact that the D6 (and e604) are giving you what you are going to try to make the drums sound like with EQing. Let’s admit it, unprocessed drums sound like crap. No one wants “what drums really sound like” to be what you hear on a recording, unless you’re deliberately doing a gritty lo fi album.

    Also ill add the full beat through the d112 sounds the best in terms of if that was the whole mix. Like the snare sounds best through the d112 lol maybe just pick all your mics according to how the make everything you're not close micing sound. All the mics make the floor tom sound OK. But the d112 makes the whole kit sound good in relation to the floor tom. That would be my choice. Nothing worse than mixing a drum to sound good and it makes the rest of the kit sound bad counteracting a different good sounding close mic
