    If you don’t get anxiety whenever you have to pick up a camera to go out to shoot, you’re not crazy to have so many. I have 15 cameras (film & digital) but in the end I really use 3 and feel bad whenever I see a neglected camera sitting on a shelf. 😢

    • @KarinMajoka

      Sometimes it can be tough to choose the camera of the day - but luckily it's something connected to joy and not anxiety haha. But yes, I can relate to that little spark of guilt when having to leave cameras in the shelf for too long

      That's a sign of a random collection from factory mass production.
      It's a terrible collection to have.
      You're not planning your future, or building to a great collection.
      You're just random gathering.
      Put some effort into deciding on your matching set collection.
      They haven't been designed to work together.
      Every time you swap brands, your brain must relearn what to do.

    I have to say that I loved watching this video along with one with you out with your friends shooting with the Yaschica T-4. I really like the pictures you’ve taken with the point and shoot cameras. It’s made me realize how under appreciated they were back when they were new. And now I am inspired to go find my old film point and shoot from 1990 to see if it still works.

    You can still replace the battery in the prima sol!!!! I did it with mine. I got it dead and brought it back to life! You do have to open up the camera and replace it which is up to you if it's worth it. To me it was!

    You're not crazy at all. When you start shooting film you start also collecting film camera, it's not a rule but I think this happens to many people. I just start shooting film a couple of years ago and I have 2 Instax, 4 35mm film camera and 2 medium format camera alongside my digital camera and different vintage lenses. Great collection Karin. Rosaria

    • @KarinMajoka
      @KarinMajoka  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Rosaria, thanks for the reassurance I am not completely crazy haha. Sometimes I almost feel like it’s a “rescue complex” since some of those cameras would have otherwise been thrown away. But yes there seems to be a huge correlation between shooting film and collecting cameras!

    I also have trouble getting my cameras out often enough. There are 13 right now but mostly shoot four .... well, maybe five. When I start a roll in a camera, I try to finish it before loading a different one. Most are getting old now( like me) so I'm not out as often anymore. you made a good video and I hope you stick with your photography... you can shoot a life time and still find pictures right in front of you. The Konica is a cool camera. My first camera was a Konica Autoreflex T (2). Still here, I still shoot it, still love it... it just suits me.

    Congratulations on getting the Contax G1! I think I m also a little bit crazy, having one besides my Leica M4-2 and all the other rangefinders I own. But I definitely like shooting it, maybe even a little bit more than the manual rangefinders, because it s more convenient to use and the Planar 45mm is a fantastic lens. The X-Pan would be nice too, but I think I would not use it enough to justify the cost.

    • @KarinMajoka
      @KarinMajoka  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! :) It definitely is convenient and I think the perfect choice for a casual day out. The only thing that worries me (about the G1 but also the XPAN) is the fact that they are electronic cameras... :/

    Many years ago I got a Rolleiflex 2.8C from a friend quite cheap because he didn’t enjoy using it. The first years I was really annoyed and had problems taking good shots, considering selling it again. But suddenly I got around things like the reverse viewfinder image, not so bright screen and seemingly slow operation and now I find it one of the best street photography cameras out there. People don’t see you or they think „what’s that?“ and gaze into the lens. Also, over time, this has often become a conversation piece helping to connect with strangers. The Seagull is probably s good picture take but also a little more quirky and slower than the Rolleiflexes, but you should definitely give it a try! Nice collection btw. Love the XPan. 👍

    Wow! You have lots of film cameras. I used to have many many cameras in my collection. For some reasons, after downsizing and keeping the only unique ones (in mint condition) limited to not more than eight or ten, I can focus better in my actual photography itself. But that just me! 😂

    I was impressed as there are a lot of cameras there that I have either never heard of or don't have and I have a lot, from quarter plate, to bellows, to medium format, to rangefinders, slrs, point and shoot, dslrs, compact, APS, and Micro 4/3 to many but over a hundred and then there are lenses, plus flash guns, bizzarly I found out about 10 years ago that my Great Great grandfather had a studio in Manchester UK and recently discovered that another family member had a different studio in the 1800s Fred Batho late with Lafosse and Albert Batho the first being my mother's Grandfather and my Nana who used to come to our house until she was 89 every Sunday and was born in 1882 died 1980 age 99 never told me, I have a photo of her taken with my kodak box brownie, and no one ever told me about the photography interest, Fred has some proof sheets in the National Archives at Kew UK I discovered the photography interst when looking to do a open university course and the photo that was then the introductory one, I thought was familiar and it was one of my mothers aunts! It's quite astonishing, so I guess it's on the genes. I'm 73 now and still collect! So don't worry, enjoy, you seem to fall lucky on something that you obviously love! I've just received a pentax K1000 today, that was from a student who used for her degree and she had all the original manuals etc, it will still be going in 100 years unlike the mirrorless and dslrs of the modern day, like tablets and i phones the tech will fail, so look after the mechanical!

    For your Super 8mm cine camera, have you considered processing the film yourself ? You can buy developing tanks that accept either 8mm or 16mm film and reversal processing to get a positive is easy to do.

    • @KarinMajoka
      @KarinMajoka  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! :) Yes, I have considered developing myself, I don't have the necessary spool or tank yet, but it should not be too big of on issue. However, I am more concerned when it comes to digitising the film. I have no idea how to digitise motion picture film on your own.

    Karin, you're not crazy at all. I have way more cameras. Most of mine are a collection, and though I've film tested nearly all of it, there Is a substantial chunk of these cameras which I use for serious photography. I own many of the same beauties, though I'm jealous of the G2 and X-Pan, I make up with it with a vast assortment of medium format cameras. Hey Karin, went down that rabbit hole, too. But not only with analog cameras and lenses but also with vintage high-end scanners. Interestingly the only camera we own both is the Bronica ETRSi :) Cheers from Potsdam - Christian

    • @KarinMajoka
      @KarinMajoka  ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting, I had no idea that scanners are collectors items as well! What is the (quote on quote) "best" scanner in your opinion? Also interesting to see that the overlap between two collection sometimes is as narrow as only one camera we have in common.

    • @c.f.7493
      @c.f.7493 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KarinMajoka What should I say, there was one scanner, and then another, and so on. The concept, if you get this one, you sell that one, simply never worked :) But it is interesting to compare the different technologies behind these machines and also the output they deliver. Unfortunately you also have to maintain a complete eco-system with every machine, since they often need special computer hard- and software mostly from the late 90s early 2000s.
      "Best" is hard to say, since there are so many variables. If you only count the final scan quality, I would say my drum-scanners lead the pack. But they are slow and every scan is quite expensive since you need special fluids, tape and mylar-sheets. But the process is very haptic and I love this.
      If I had to choose the best compromise between image quality, speed and ease of use I would always go with my Nikon Coolscan 9000 ED. It is a small and lite machine, the scan-quality is amazing (great sharpness and virtually no noise in the scans), the scanner is quite fast and has great features as Infrared film cleaning and adjustable RGB-LEDs as light-source. Only some filmholders are a pain in the a**.
      If you want to dive deeper into film-scanning, feel free to write me an e-mail to kontakt@chr-fr.de
      Concerning cameras, I collect mostly professional 35mm SLR and MF Equipment. If I could only keep one film-camera I would always go with my Hasselblad H4X. It is not the prettiest one, but ergonomic is great, it has some very unique features and a fast AF (for a MF camera).

    Having been a Contax G user from the time when they were introduced, best lenses for the Contax G cameras is the 45mm Planar, 28mm Biogon, 35mm Planar. These are the three best lenses in the Contax G offering. The 90mm sonnar is too long a focal length to be proper on a rangefinder camera, the 21mm Biogon required an external view finder, lens is optically good-difficult to use due to the external view finder_identical to the 16mm Hologon. The 35-70mm Vario-Sonnar is mixed. G1 is the basic version, the green sticker version has the upgrades allowing usage of all the G series lenses. Non green sticker G1 limited to 28mm, 45mm, 90mm. The G2 is larger, more feature ability to use all the G series lenses and is more sought after by Contax G fans. In many ways, the Contax G series in concept and in image making is essentially an autofocus Leica M series.

    • @michaelcase8574
      @michaelcase8574 ปีที่แล้ว

      Contax sold a 135mm Sonar for it's one, two and 3 series rangefinder cameras. You had to use a shoe fitted viewfinder. No extra frame lines on those camera's though.

    I sure feels crazy doesn't it but when you stand there out and about pulling the trigger it sure feels good! That's my take on that after being set on the film path by my father gifting me his old yashica FX-D quartz and I will admit to that it did musical chair around my place for a time before I got some batteries and film in it and completely fell in love with photography in a way I had not since I was a kid with a point n shoot in the 90s. Just a small side note regarding Polaroid.
    I just did some maths and assuming a Polaroid film costs €25.99 for 8 frames, then one frame comes to €3.25.
    If you take a Portra 400 in medium format (6x7) with 10 frames, estimate the cost per roll at about 16,90€ and develop+scanns 14,40€, then you get 3,13€ per frame.
    So polaroid is not that much more expensive...but we don't want to talk about the quality now ;) .

    • @KarinMajoka
      @KarinMajoka  ปีที่แล้ว

      I mainly compared Polaroid film to Instax film. Here in Germany I get a double box of Instax Square film (20 shots) for less than 8 shots on Polaroid 600 or SX-70 film. But the calculation in comparison to Portra is really interesting indeed! There are many ways of calculating though, if you don't calculate with the number of shots but square centimetres instead, most medium format film is even cheaper than 35mm film haha.

      @Bro_nica ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KarinMajoka to tell that I'm really bored at work right now without saying that I'm bored: for 17,50€ per roll of 35mm, you get 31104mm² in comparison to 16,90€ per roll of 120, you get 43200mm² of exposure area...120 wins!
