    A very interesting take on this poem. For me, it speaks of purpose. A life without dreams, dream that can't propel one higher, or move us forward, is a life which is not whole. Just like a bird with a broken wing. Without dreams we are handicapped. A dream moves our thoughts and can free our mind. Dreams dare us to do more.

      I fluctuate between believing that dreaming is necessary and telling myself to just do the dog gone work. How do you balance the two?

      I think both are necessary. You can't do the work without a dream first. There is no work to be done if we don't allow are selves to have dreams

    I picked up a copy of the same edition of The Complete Langston Hughes just a few weeks ago. I didn't realize before then just how much Hughes wrote during his lifetime.

      That's just the poetry. He wrote short stories and scripts too. And, honestly, top of my head, I'm ashamed to admit I don't know if he wrote any novels...
