@@OnlineAutoRepairVideos It's the first (and only) brand new car I've ever owned...custom ordered with a 5-speed. It's got some cosmetic issues, and might need a head gasket, but I can't bear to part with it yet! Definitely going to replace those hatchback struts soon!
@@MattKrogmeier We were looking for another one, LOL! We live in the south so the body on this one is GREAT! Send me a picture of yours, and I'll put it in our next subscribers vehicles, like this one: th-cam.com/video/bqs4fFSTVhU/w-d-xo.html
@@OnlineAutoRepairVideos my friend I need a video of how to fix battery cables sitting under battery for a 99 Mercury Cougar v6. There was a recall on these battery power cables. But I don't know how to rewire them or swap them. Thanks
@@tonezone99 SO SORRY Tony because before we started TH-cam, we actually replaced that cable!! We have to do an alternator on it soon, and when we do, I'll try to go into replacing that cable.
Do I need to disconnect the battery before I start doing this? I know nothing about car fixing, but I just got quoted $900 for a tuneup. I have to find a way to fix it myself.
Your welcome... Wow you guys responded very fast to my comment... I do have a question during the video you guys said that later on you will be doing a valve cover gasket change in that engine I was wondering can you assist me in that also the scan tool won't power up when I connect to the data link connector... Was wondering what could be wrong with that data link connector
No problem Ronald! Check your fuses before going cazy, lol. We plan on doing MANY videos on this car, as it is our personal & business vehicle: th-cam.com/video/wb0VOuZSGcw/w-d-xo.html Our next video on this is to do the radiator, which has to come out from the bottom of the car!
Ok, I have to play the Silvia card right now. In the old days, you always had to check the gap of the plug, because of shipment and whatnot, the set gap could have been changed. Why not now? You did touch on the subject for about three seconds.
Now if you come across a plug that has been damaged, then you would have no choice but to gap them, also back then, the ignition systems (distributors that you could adjust), need spark plugs that had to be gaped in order to fine tune the spark during the power stroke. Now, well on MOST vehicles, the computer is controlling the timing.
Yes it is!! i don't think there are many of these cars left out there. I have to admit, these are some really dependable cars. The valve covers don't look TOO bad, so looks like we know what the next video is going to be on this car.
The spark plugs were terrible, i cannot believe your car's spark plugs was that oily, for shame on you. The Painter name was Bob Ross.oh I dis agree with you about the spark plug gap, they can get bounced around in their box and the gap can be smashed to a smaller gap, thats happen to me many times, i always check my gaps now.
The only time I've seen a spark plug where the gap was closed, was when someone dropped it. It is a good practice to check them before you install them, but to have to adjust them, hardly ever.
Thank you for not disconecting the manifold
No problem!!
This is the first useful video I've ever found for a 2000 Cougar! I've still got mine - waiting to hit the lottery so I can do a full restoration :).
KEEP IT, because we got ours, and these cars are GREAT!

No you do not BUT it can't hurt to do that just incase!! These cars are becoming VERY rare, it's cool that you have one too!

I like your videos,do have a video on replacing the valve cover gaskets and seals? Thanks a lot Zemogauto in Deming n.m.
Great video, are NGK plugs better than Motor craft plugs for the Mercury Cougar?
THANKS, I think both brands would be great to use.
Nice Tuneup. I miss however breaking out my timing light and dwell meter!!
OH MAN did that bring back memories!!! The times when you had to clean the timing mark tab and mark it, lol, GOOD TIMES!
Yes!! And so much easier in a lot of ways!!
when are you going to get t -shirts that say, I watch Astral Auto Repair on TH-cam? yeeeeeeaaaaa bboooooooiiiieeee!
At the same time you get "I watch I Seek Out The Truth On TH-cam", LOL!
@@OnlineAutoRepairVideos no one watches me.
12,000 subscribers might just disagree!
@@OnlineAutoRepairVideos only 8.6 % of the 12,oooh plus actually watch tho. And they only watch first 3 min and 44 seconds.
Thank you
No problem, and THANKS!
You are correct, the valve cover gaskets suck on these engines. The timing case gasket are worse.
Dang it Len!! Don't you hate it when it's YOUR car that needs the big work?
Oh yeah I do. But, I delay it as long as I can, LOL!

By the way Mike, that was an EXCELLENT Silvia question!!!!
Nice job 👍
Thanks Ziggy!
So, I should keep my 2000 Mercury Cougar...with 162K miles??
Definitely, we still have ours and it's great. Ours has more than 200,000 miles.
Have you ever did a rant video on defective parts out of the box? would love to hear your thoughts on that sometime lol
No, but i have gotten some, lol!
Bob Ross is the painter
It looks like it's valve cover gasket time. I see jack is on guard duty
