- If you've ever wondered where we live when we're not travelling... then welcome to an inside look at our off grid hut life in New Zealand!
After being diagnosed with breast cancer in July 2023, and having a single mastectomy a month later, it made me realise just how important family is!
So Lee went to the UK for 2 months to spend Christmas 2023 with his parents, and I went back to NZ for 2 months to spend Christmas with mine.
I wasn't planning to share any of my stay with you, but after having talking with the lovely Barbara, I decided to put together the random clips on my phone, and the few I took when my new GoPro Hero 12 arrived.

Oh no, I should have thought about that before sharing our hut with you guys 🤣🤣🤣. It's a good thing we're law-abiding citizens 🤗
It is so relaxing there... I love it. It's where I grew up, and we used to have to chase sheep up that hill in the distance, with the pine trees, and they'd always go the wrong way, the stupid things 🐏😜🐑🤪
That block of land is 19 acres, and it's basically a steep hill and a swamp 😁🤣
I ate such delicious meals when I was there on my own. It will be interesting to see what it's like when Lee and I are there in January for a few months... there'll suddenly be cheese and yogurt and other non-vegan things.

Off grid living is fun short term but you really need to set up well to make it work long term. It suits us fine to stop there and unwind from the rigours of travel occasionally. 🙏👍😍

NZ is way safer than Australia, as we don't have any snakes at all, and we only have one type of poisonous spider, that I've never seen! I so love relaxing in my hammock in the countryside... it's where I feel the most like the real me 😍♥️
I started following you when you were in the Philippines, then was intrigued when you went to Perth (my first home in Australia) and then now you're in NZ, I consider my 3rd home where I'm also visiting end of the month. I'm excited for your Portugal vlogs. You're such an inspiration. 🥰

Hello Alice 👋 It's always a pleasure to hear from you 🤗 Our off-grid hut in NZ is my favourite place to be... so wonderfully tranquil 😍♥️ I can't remember if we explained things in a video... we might have at the end of our Travel Tips for the Philippines After Cancer video, as I was flying back to Perth and Lee was flying to the UK. We were apart for 10 weeks, and will be meeting up again in Lisbon in Monday's video ♥️🇵🇹♥️🇵🇹

Would you teach us someday about how best to accrue mileage and how best to use them? For example, Is it better to look for cheapest tickets or stick to the same airlines for mileage?
That's such a great question, Liza, and I'm going to add it to the next Q&A. The simple answer is that we always go for the best cheap ticket, and have only just started accruing air miles with Singapore Airlines as we have taken so many flights with Scoot. I'm going to be flying back to Perth with Scoot in 10 days, but will then fly to Bangkok with my sister with Jetstar, and then fly Perth to London with Malaysian Air... so as you can see, we tend to go for the cheapest flights 😁😊

Oh my heck that was blinkin good blist. You know how I love the short and sweet vids. 😂 How lucky are we to have grown up there. Sometimes I feel sad that my kids didn’t grow up there. But . I love Perth. Dad loves having you there to help with the firewood. To quote him “Mandy is a very hard worker”. Lucky you are and the admiration of those biceps meant an early diagnosis. You crack me up with your “simple needs”. Your beans look better than mine! (I still think mine taste better 😂cause I like salt but you are a salt minimalist.) You know how much I love the hut... it's my favourite place in the world, and where all I need to do is lie in the hammock all day! I'm so pleased I got to experience your hammock in Perth, as that's what inspired me to buy one for my birthday... best birthday present ever 🥳🎂🥰

Hi Jules. It's a long drop, so a big hole in the ground that Lee dug years ago. I would like to change it to a compost toilet but am not sure if that'll ever happen.
