berlin was asking why the general public disrespects christianity more than any other religion and i want to give my perspective on the take:
Christianity is the most popular religion practiced in america, so it’s often perceived as the “default” religion. especially in the south(from my experience) it’s either you’re christian or you worship the devil. there has been a few times where i have mentioned that i’m agnostic and a persons reply will be “i’ll pray for you”, as if i’m in danger or like they just found that i was diagnosed with a terminal illness.
one of the worser cases of mine is as a kid me and my family would go to our local church and my mother was called a “hard r lover” because of her biracial children. that had to be the last time we attended church since.
i am no way defending those who hate on a particular religion, but i can see their perspective.
i’ve watched berlin for a good 4-5 years now and him speaking on his faith and using his religion to spread positivity and love is proof that there are genuine people out there and we shouldn’t hate a religion based on a few bad experiences.

Jesus literally said the world has hated him it will hate you also because you follow him, Christ. People hate the truth most people hate Christianity mainly because they don’t want to follow rules and don’t care to try to understand the word. The devil will try his best to deceive us to stray away from Christ.
Some christians do way too much some could push people away from getting that person close to God. Some say u can’t watch tv or play games anymore. U can just spend some time with God. We are not perfect God knows that but we should at least try to be perfect for him don’t beat ourselves up because we fail just ask for forgiveness.

    • @FaithWakefield

@@EstPlayground as i mentioned, i am not religious. my comment was for berlin to understand our perspective, not for you to banter about christianity to me.
i am perfectly capable of having good morals and following rules without practicing religion, that’s definitely not the reason why people turn their backs on religion. as many said in this comment section, it’s because of religious trauma and hate from the community because they use their religion to be hateful and negative. so i respectfully disagree.

To Berlin’s Point about criticizing christianity:
I dont think its so much that people are criticizing Jesus himself, but more the people who use Jesus as a “shield” to validate their disrespect for other people. My problem specifically with Christianity is that there are some people who will use their religion to justify hate and THAT is just as disrespectful as people who are dishonoring Jesus. Plus there are a lot of people, especially people in the LGBTQ+ community, who have been subjected to hateful Christians and so once they get out of that toxic environment they feel that the religion itself is to blame and not the terrible people.

Growing up Christian (I'm not Christian anymore) I have never felt more disrespect from anywhere but the Christian community and that's just as being born a woman. I'm a gay trans guy, I would've been stoned in Texas. It's weird they wouldn't see all the hate Christianity in itself has created and is rooted in but can see when someone would dislike it but not the "why".
Christians are getting bullied because the community tolerates unchristian behavior. They aren't getting prosecuted. they're the prosecutors. That's just facts.
If a person is a true Christian then it's something you gotta acknowledge and stand up above it all and hold your beliefs true. Not criticize why people who are affected by Christianity negatively make the commentary they do.

To comment on the Lil Nas situation and the pushback towards Christians- I think a lot of it has to do with the usage of Christianity throughout history.
Christianity was used as a form of oppression and justification for things like slavery and colonization, as these colonizers would claim it as "God's will" and their "Divine right". I'm from the Caribbean and during history class in secondary school we learned about how colonizers would forcibly convert the indigenous population, and later enslaved Africans (despite them already having their own gods) and if they refused to comply they would be tortured or killed. Christianity was also (and a lot of the time, still is) used to demonize those in the LGBTQIA+ community.
I was raised Christian but over time I've become more spiritual, I still have respect for Christianity as a religion but I can see why many are opposed to it due to its unfortunate usage. I think a lot of people look at Christianity and pinpoint it to radical Christians who disrespect and look down on others, especially those of different faiths. It's really sad because the lengths that _this_ specific group of Christians go to in a way goes against what the bible teaches, especially in the aspect of "Loving thy neighbour".
I believe that Christianity, like any other religion, should be respected- but at the same time, I can somewhat understand where these people are coming from. Why respect a religion that was used in bad faith for over a millennia? Why respect a religion that excludes and looks down on those with a differing sexual orientation from the "norm"? Why respect a religion consisting of people who call other religions "fake" and tell those believers that they'll go to hell?
I think that a lot of the hate and disrespect you see recently towards Christianity is more pointed at its use throughout history, and specific people who practise it, and not so much to do with its contents.
That's my observation anyway. Imo I don't know what the point of using Christian imagery in his music video was for. I didn't see the point. It's not even coming from a place of me being offended I just don't know why he'd choose it instead of going for something else.

Thank you for saying this, I came here looking for this comment. I feel bad for believers that approach, learn and talk about Christianity in good faith because they tend to catch a lot of strays from critics. On the other hand, Christianity as a social philosophy has caused and continues to cause harm to many marginalized people (most recently anti-trans law and the limitation of reproductive rights for people who can get pregnant). I think Lil Nas X taking his experience in the religion, using it as a narrative device in his art, and causing a stir for engagement isn't as bad as it's made to seem. He doesn't go after the believers; he goes after the stories being taught that are intended to cause harm and shame.

I don’t know the rapper personally, but he may have gone through that, and this is his way to cope. I’m not saying Christians can’t be upset either but to pretend that Christianity is this completely clean slate and nothing ever goes wrong and they don’t deserve it. It is asinine.

But he’s essentially using the negative experiences and bad people he encountered through Christianity to mock all of its followers, including its positive and good people. When you mock entire demographics you’re bound to insult people who have nothing to do with your trauma. This is the same mindset as a white person who was traumatized by a black person and using that as an excuse to be racist to the rest of the demographic. There will never be a good excuse to try to mock entire groups of people. No matter what your trauma is. People need to learn to truly deal and heal their trauma without making other people have to feel that pain with them.

Kai was actually on some homophobic shit though in his response. He literally had to stop himself from saying the f slur and going too far. And its like, so many other rappers have done this concept with comparing themselves to Jesus or God and didn't/still don't receive anywhere near as much pushback. Jay Z, Kanye, Lil Wayne, Nas, Tupac and more. All have done it and no one cared. So when someone who is gay does the same thing and it becomes an issue it very much does come off has homophopia, which is very rampant in the christian community historically. Its corny what he's doing for attention but at the same time the lack of consistency and ppl using this as an opportunity to spread hate toward LGBT folk is very apparent. Not everyone, but a lot are doing that.

I agree with the last sentence but some gay people in the gay community take the phrase “I don’t like the video “ the same as “ I don’t like gay people”. Sometimes nobody is saying anything about disliking gay people, they just don’t like the subject matter in the video. and somehow in society now, if you don’t like something a gay person is doing, then it’s automatically makes us homophobic…

I’m usually not one to comment but, I kind of wanted to expand on the lil nas x situation. Though I do see how the j Christ video could be seen as disrespectful. I think the purpose of the video was to get views. It did exactly what it intended to do which was to get people to watch it and talk about it. Lil Nas knew exactly what would happen and now the video has millions of views. Because for him there’s no such thing as bad publicity. Also, Berlin said something that was interesting to me which was “why do people feel the need to speak negatively on Christianity. I feel like it stems from a lot of people having religious trauma associated with that religion and because of the history of violence and discrimination that was done in the name of the religion. No hate to Christian’s though just wanted to provide a prospective.

I think people forget that Lil Nas X is also a big internet troll as well and uses his videos and tweets to push back against all the ridicule he’s gotten from the jump. Same as how Doja Cat is also a huge online troll as well. People have a right to feel how they feel though, but I do feel like it’s so focused on the reaction of people and not the cause of him doing it in the first place. If that makes sense

I know the topics are old, but still. Maybe this can offer some perspective on the Lil Nas conversation.
The reason some people gravitate towards using jesus and christianity as symbolism in their music, is because more often than not, it's the community that shunned them in their musical life, or their personal life at some point. Gays for the longest time have avoided being themselves because of what comes from that... In black households... In religious households. In the church. In the community as a whole. But since the pain it causes them doesn't typically affect others, it looks like nothing is wrong. It might seem like they're acting out against christianity or any religion for no reason, but they aren't. There's a reason for everything if you dig deep enough. We might not all like it, but it's there.
Anyways, I love the pod. And I appreciate the bros getting into their deep bags for these 🙏 Episode 3 couldn't come sooner 😭

respectfully, i think its a closed minded to question why a religion like christianity gets critiqued/ridiculed. of course everyone is entitled to walk whichever paths they choose but to be naive of the good AND bad that comes with it can cause ignorance. just as much as christianity has helped, it has also hurt a lot more, thus why its easy for it to be the butt of jokes for some. i think acknowledging that can help with just letting stuff like that slide because other religions get made fun of all the time; that isnt okay but it is also inevitable.

100% agree I think the reason why for example people got so mad at kai cenat was he does promote rappers who rap abt violence and killings and constantly makes fun of the LGBTQ people are calling him a hypocrite and this is where he draws the line… what lil nas did was wrong nobody is arguing against that but as a christian myself I know we don’t always do the right things and some people might say we do more harm then good.. so I agree it’s inevitable to be made fun of as some chirstians do to other people whether you think it’s right or wrong is up to you

Hey Guys, just wanted to clarify PG statement at 38:16. Allah DOESN'T mean Arm,leg, leg, arm, head in any literal, metephorical, or theoretical sense. Allah just means one god. I think I understand the intention behind (Self-Impowerment I assume) but don't overthink it. I hear some stuff about Islam from the spiritual community (or whatever community you wanna call it) and some of the stuff can get lost in translation. love how the comments were giving the pod perspective on the lil nas segment. as someone who has always questioned christianity, though i feel no need to disrespect the religion, people who dont like christians, are indeed VALID. the historical and even current use of this religion and how the most bigoted, radical people will do things in the name of that religion (unfortunately), is why people are comfortable disrespecting it.
even kai, almost said the f slur in his rant, which is why people thought his commentary was in bad faith. mind you, there were plenty of ppl jumping to be homophobic, just because they didnt like the video. which shows that if they were so quick to compromise morality due to being offended, they were always that way. again, giving anti-christians more fuel for their dislike.

  • @bri.rachon313

I love this video. I always love watching yall talk and share opinions. The convo on lil nas x got me thinking, too (and I love how they all kept that discussion so respectful while also cracking their normal jokes). My question as far as lil nas x was why is everyone so mad at him specifically? Not everybody in the Speakeezy per se, but a lot of people in general? Didn't Kendrick Lamar insinuate himself as a Jesus-like figure, too, in his music video, N95? I feel like Kanye received more pushback for his anti-semitic comments (which were not cool, btw) versus him referring to himself as "Yeezus," which we all pretty much brushed off as silly ole Kanye being Kanye. I def don't support disrespecting Christians by targeting them specifically, but I also know a lot of Christians are not as kind as Berlin, either. A lot of us have traumatic memories of the Christian or Catholic church. I also believe in freedom of speech, and I know Lil Nas X has been targeted specifically by some Christians just for being black and gay in the public eye, before any of his imagery got super religious in context. Why can some Christians critique other groups and it's seen as normal, like protesting outside of a pride parade for example, but when other groups critique Christianity, it is seen as blasphemous and a sign of declining times? Why can some white artists like, say, Billie Eilish or Ashnikko, or even ACDC with something as simple and seemingly harmless as "Highway to Hell" (all of which are incredible artists, btw), play around with demonic or satanic-like imagery or methaphors, a lot of which could def be interpreted as blasphemous as well, but Lil Nas X is able to spark this much commotion? Also, we don't know his experience with Christianity either, and because a lot of people who have left the church (or been shunned by one, or raised by religious parents, whatever the case may be) have a lot of complex feelings toward the religion, they should be allowed to unpack that through art and express themselves like anyone else. It feels like pushing artistic boundaries always gets the line drawn at Christianity but not at any other religion, and it does really go to show the favoritism toward Christianity in western society. And I can't lie- every time Lil Nas makes a joke out of it, his views go up because people are so passionate about Christianity, when it is in fact another religion like any other religion. I could see why he'd keep using the formula if it's the sure-fire route that works: "I mention Christianity=my views and engagement go up." I think sometimes we should take a step back and reflect on why this makes US so angry, especially when there are plentiful examples of "blasphemous" things that we turn a cheek to everyday, some of which we do ourselves? Lil nas x being so far in the public eye, I feel, just makes him the perfect target and the perfect person to make an example of, which I don't think is fair. Butttt, I do believe EVERYone should be allowed to stand in their beliefs and express themselves, so long as no one is physically or verbally abused in the process. Lil Nas X aint hurting nobody, so just turn off the video or don't watch if you don't like. Same for peaceful Christians, lol--they minding they business so let them go 'head about they business. Love is the bottom line. Everything else just makes it seem overly complicated.

regarding the lil nas x / christianity topic, what we choose to focus on shows a lot about what we truly have a problem with. using blasphemous imagery and language in art is nothing new in the slightest.
theres a reason why it feels like a punch in the face to see lil nas x do it yet can still tolerate other completely secular music that promotes extreme violence, also has blasphemous imagery, and includes the uplifting of a multitude of other sins. is lil nas x’s music video something that no one has ever done or seen before? no. the outrage is cause hes gay doing it.
him being gay to people is like the extra disrespect, which is exactly the point of the pushback on the criticism and the criticisms of christianity itself. people get to mask their hatred for certain marginalized communities by hiding behind their religion.
and a lot of people unfortunately had to grow up with the same hypocrisies at the hands of christians. kai praying occasionally and giving thanks to god does not erase him uplifting and providing a space for sin. nicki minaj did a whole christian thing too and she was still on his stream.
consistency matters. and what you choose to focus on matters.

In regards to the understanding and practice of Christianity, I feel that it becomes an issue to me when people choose to be devout Christians when it is selectively beneficial for them or to essentially berate. For example: Kai being upset about what took place while simultaneously saying nothing about Palestine, which is the birth place of Jesus, is a bit flippant. Not to mention, he was drinking Starbucks on his stream, who are one of the funders of the genocide. Not to mention, Kanye West stated he was God and had entire aesthetic of being Jesus. Kendrick Lamar has a shoot with him with a thorn crown on and no one batted an eye. I will always say people will use Christianity in the way that they are as people.

Just to clear what PG said here at 38:19 Allah doesn't mean arm leg leg arm head like he said. It simply means God in arabic. Nor does Allah mean "our inner god". Nor do we believe that we are god or a part of him (nor do we think that he looks like a human) cuz that will be contradicting to the teachings of Islam. Allah is God and there's nothing that looks like him in the heavens and the earth (exalted he is in his might) and we worship him alone. Also, we do believe that Jesus peace be upon him is a prophet and a messenger of Allah (we do not tolerate any disrespect towards jesus) just like we don't tolerate any disrespect towards Mohammed peace be upon him and all of the other prophets. Hope i cleared out the misunderstanding here.

I don’t comment much tbh, but I figured it’s one of those times to chime in since the crew was conversing with the subject of Lil Nas X and Christianity. Prepare for the biggest yap:
To give background, I grew up Christian and went to a private catholic school when I was younger. I’m more so agnostic now but I do respect your beliefs as long as it doesn’t harm others. With that being said, I always had a viewpoint + the experience that religion is meant to help build the foundation of what it is to be a good person how to treat others with respect (as well as handle disrespect). As I grew older into my adult years, I learned more about the history of how Christianity was used as a weapon to oppress and kill other people. Nowadays, obviously it doesn’t compare to back then since there was wars and crusades over it, but that hate still remains using the guise of religion to hurt others. Racism, homophobia, sometimes used to hurt women. Obviously we all should disavow ANYTHING that brings harm to another person.
When Berlin asks why Christianity is seen so negatively, it’s not the religion itself but the people that claim they are true Christians but do these horrid things to others for just being different than them with their beliefs. I think we can agree it’s horrible. It is also horrible to hate Christians for the actions of other “Christians” who do wrong.
I can understand the crew’s sentiment and overall disdain with what Lil Nas X did, and imo it is just a publicity stunt to get people to talk about him. However it’s also naive to think that Lil Nas X doesn’t have a connection to Christianity what so ever. He didn’t just “decide” to go after Christianity for no reason. It is because in his experience, the church would absolutely ridicule and hate him for being gay. I’m not saying it makes what he did right, but there is always an explanation to these actions a to why it happens.
Side Note: Lil Nas X ain’t even the first rapper to make himself Jesus or God. You have DMX, Kanye, and even Travis Scott do the same thing, but no one talks about it really or with an outrage even on a similar level. If the outrage is genuine, then it needs to be addressed with EVERYBODY, not just Lil Nas X.
On that note, Jesus loved everybody no matter who you were. He sat with sinners and broke bread with prostitutes rather than sit with those who already share his beliefs. He conversed with them and made them feel seen even if they didn’t like them. You can’t respond to hate with hate, it goes both ways.
Overall, my perspective is that there is a lot of internalized hatred with a chunk of Christians that use their religion to hurt or justify violence against others and it has shown in history to be the case. I just want the boys to approach what they talk about with nuance and ask each other “why.”
That’s pretty much it, though. I love this podcast and can’t wait for the next episode. Eughh.

The reason why Christianity is so easily ridiculed is because it’s a religion that is not immediately tied to a group of people or culture because it’s so wide spread. Furthermore so many people ridicule Christianity not because of the religion itself yet so many people suffer at the hands of “Christians” people who say they embrace their religion and may pray and go to church but once they come across someone different from them (gay, trans, black, etc) they turn to complete hatred. At some point in my life I was against religion because of those people but maturing is realizing that’s not every Christian and you shouldn’t turn away god for someone who isn’t god. Aside from that, people are defending Nas so hard because many people will take the video and use the excuse “it’s disrespectful” just to be racist and homophobic toward him so the conversation becomes so muddled. Is he being disrespectful? Maybe, but then why are we talking about him being gay? “Because it’s against god” whatever and that’s why he criticizes Christians and god, because he’s suffered due to the people who believe in faith but then why mock (if he is or not that’s for you to decide) god just to make his followers who don’t truly listen to him mad? It’s just a back and forth you can never win because it’s founded in personal beliefs that you hold to how you perceive god which is something no matter what you can’t change for someone. Two Christian will respect god in their own way and someone who might not believe in him will take a whole other approach. It’s just pointless. If you don’t like don’t watch it’s meaningless tbh

I totally understand why a lot of Christians weren't happy with the Lil Nas X 'J Christ' song. There definitely was imaginary in there which i would label as unsavory and blasphemous to the Christian belief. However, I personally feel like the backlash he got was disproportionate to his peers who have done similar if not more revolting things using Christ's name.
I am in no way, shape, or form defending his behavior or saying that "others have done it so why cant he?" but more as a comparison to his backlash and others who have done similar things.
Artist like Playboy Carti with his upside down crosses, Travis Scott dressing up as the Lord and Satan, Nicki Minaj sexualizing Catholicism, Lady Gaga sexualizing Nuns and Judas, Kendrick Lamar's glorified bedazzled crown of thorns, and Ariana Grande using God as a sex symbol (the list can go on forever) have done very unsavory things using the Lord's name and the Bible but somehow the backlash they experienced can't even be remotely compared to what Lil Nas X was facing.
Many people were attacking Christians calling out his behavior because a lot (NOT ALL) were being very hypocritical when it came to evaluating the video. You used Kai Cenat as an example (which I think personally wasn't the best choice) of a man defending his religion, however Kai is an avid fan of many artist you can say are sacrilegious and in his video of criticizing Lil Nas X he almost slipped up and said the F slur on stream. In which many were able to see his biases masquerading around as legitimate criticisms.
There's absolutely NOTHING wrong with defending your religion however to pick and choose who and who isn't blasphemous when doing the same act is not really defending but rather discriminating. Lil Nas X definitely deserves backlash for his video that's undeniable, however the Christian community still struggles with equally handing out punishments/shame when it comes to committing such sacrilegious acts.
The reason you don't really see people playing with other religions like this is because in most religions regardless of your gender, race, sexuality, ethnicity etc a Sin is a Sin and you will be punished for it period. Although many Christians claim that they believe this idea as well, we more often than not come across hypocrites in the community that tarnish the faiths name which threatens the seriousness of it's followers.
There's a MUCH bigger issue to be addressed when it comes to this topic. How much is too much, and where do we draw the line when it comes to religion especially when it comes to art, music, film etc? That's just my thoughts on it tho many could disagree

Whats so crazy is no one has EVER had a problem with rap blasphemy until Lil nas x... like yall listen to kanye and jayz but when a gay rapper does it yall suddenly don't get the message... ik this video is dated but ik for a fact they have this mindset is so fucked, yall are so focused on what he's doing instead of what he's saying and what's he's trying to put into the world. he's "killed" the devil, he's "beat" the devil in basketball ntm is christianity not about being apart of jesus, is the message of christianity not to be whole?

There's so many great points in the comments being made about the Lil Nas X music video/Christianity discourse that I dont wanna run the points into the ground.
On the topic though, I've noticed that the way we have passionate disagreements with others on the internet has changed dramatically. Instead of engaging in conversations in a healthy manner and separating ourselves from our beliefs to talk about points, a lot of the time, people tend to use those disagreements to make personal attacks at others to try and win the argument (these are called Ad hominem fallacies, logic girlies rise up).
When it comes to criticizing a religious belief, this gets really tricky because its easy to feel like our religious/spiritual beliefs are a part of us and integral to our identity. So when someone criticizes a spiritual or religious belief that has saved us, given us meaning in this life or provided solace, it can feel like WE are being called into question which makes people defensive. I think people are valid to criticize something they've had negative experiences in and I think its valid that people who have positive experiences highlight the positive aspects and challange the critique.
What's missing in most spaces but what I see in these comments, is people sharing wisdom and perspective with respect.

I don't know what PG was talking about when he mentioned Allah as "arm, leg, leg, head". This is NOT part of Islam. God is not described as having human characteristics. Also believing that Jesus came down as God is also completely against Islamic belief too. Saying that Allah is "our inner God" is not mentioned in Islam at all. Islam is clear that there is only one God and that Jesus was a prophet of God.

I don’t think it’s Christianity that ppl really come for but it’s the ppl who worship that religion that can sometimes be the issue when choosing when something is sinful and make other sin seem greater then others when that’s not the case. So it just be the pick and choose that make ppl question certain things or don’t give as much respect for the religion. It not the religion itself but ppl in it that don’t represent it in the respect that it should be and or don’t live by it fully but want to make statements on certain topics when it come to it. If that make sense.

Christianity has a bad history whether it’s from people misinterpreting parts of the book and using that to fuel their hate or the unspeakable things that were done in framed as acts of God, and it’s majorly due to the fact of how big it is so many people believe in it, and there’s so much attention on it with the media, especially in America, because we were not founded on religion watch, everybody interpreted it as being founded it on religion. Even speaking on when it was brought here U.S and was forced on people it stems so much discourse and hate bc people use it as a justification for their harmful and hurtful ways when the Bible and many religions teach about love, faith and, discipline but it was so construed and people lose sight of the real message(by the way this is no hate to any religion this is just a perspective I wanted to give to the convo)

Reposting @blessedbutterfly-ff2 comment here because the whole bit about lil nas x rubbed me the wrong way for this reason exactly. Its crazy how ya'll will cherry pick criticizing rappers or people that don't respect your religion and your god but yet have nothing to say about all the rappers that promote a lifestyle of violence, death, destruction and greed. Just say you didn't like the fact lil nas x was 'disrespecting' Christianity WHILE being gay and move on:
regarding the lil nas x / christianity topic, what we choose to focus on shows a lot about what we truly have a problem with. using blasphemous imagery and language in art is nothing new in the slightest.
theres a reason why it feels like a punch in the face to see lil nas x do it yet can still tolerate other completely secular music that promotes extreme violence, also has blasphemous imagery, and includes the uplifting of a multitude of other sins. is lil nas x’s music video something that no one has ever done or seen before? no. the outrage is cause hes gay doing it.
him being gay to people is like the extra disrespect, which is exactly the point of the pushback on the criticism and the criticisms of christianity itself. people get to mask their hatred for certain marginalized communities by hiding behind their religion.
and a lot of people unfortunately had to grow up with the same hypocrisies at the hands of christians. kai praying occasionally and giving thanks to god does not erase him uplifting and providing a space for sin. nicki minaj did a whole christian thing too and she was still on his stream.
consistency matters. and what you choose to focus on matters.

im ngl i dont think Lil Nas X's video is disrespectful... he identifies as Christian, and is far from the only artist to use religious imagery in their art. If you're pissed about Lil Nas you gotta come for anyone else using this imagery too: Kendrick, Tupac, Madonna, Kanye etc. What's the difference here?
and responding to "out of everything in the world why choose to make a joke of this one thing" which is a valid question, he has the right to make music about his personal experience growing up Christian.

@@realmnthrwknives that's fair, in that case I guess i do understand. It's ok to find it offensive, but I'd rly want to question why. Is it really the religious imagery and portraying oneself as Jesus? Or is it the portrayal of femininity and flamboyance on a man that's the tipping point.. bc I never see ppl saying anything about movies or plays where actors play Jesus or have devil imagery like in cartoons.

i feel like lil nas was just not a good example on this discussion. Lil nas coming out made plenty of christians come after him with slurs. He was experiencing extreme homophobia, by christians. Which caused him to retaliate by mocking the religion. Disrespecting any kind of religion is very distasteful, and of course im not defending anyone. But, to use lil nas WHO IS A BLACK GAY MAN who is apart of an extremely oppressive group. Was extremely close minded whereas there were other artists who openly disrespected christians for actually no apparent good reason. Such as doja cat who added devil like imagery in music videos. But, of course she wasn’t mentioned because she’s not apart of any oppressed groups. She a straight woman, even though she was ridiculed to some degree. But, the amount of ridicule that lil nas is receiving who is apart of a group oppressed by christians. Is extremely unfair, thats a kind of conversation that has to be approached with a open mind not a closed minded one.
