This was my all-time favorite game for the Intellivision. Couple small tips: 1) Learning how to use the Block feature is invaluable. The disks "shatter" when blocked and the enemy you blocked is without a disc for a short time. In the case of the homing discs, the enemy Leader who lost it gets a non-homing disc as a replacement. 2) Avoid using the doors as a crutch. Jamming them open to create tunnels *is* highly effective, but at endgame they're a double-edged sword. The orange "Guard" warriors with paralyzer sticks are pretty fast and essentially designed to bring the game to a quick end. Once you cross a million points, there's just one Guard mixed in with the other standard enemy waves, but eventually all three are Guards. You can use the tunnels for quick escapes as usual but this can be a problem if you destroy one of the guards---if you're hanging around the walls/doors when a new one spawns, they have a nasty habit of spawning right on top of you. One "zzzt!" sound and it's an instant Game Over. 3) The Recognizer can be destroyed from the left or right side by lining up the eye slot. It always parks in the exact same spot, so you can get really good at it with some practice, but there's still a slight random factor. Believe it or not, they can also be destroyed by standing directly above the Recognizer and shooting downward, though the random factor is a bit more prevalent from that angle (not sure why). Worthy of note, the closer you stand to the Recognizer, the faster the Probe will move toward you, and it moves a LOT more quickly to grab you when you stand directly above it, too. At later stages, no matter where you stand, the probe moves so fast if your first shot doesn't land, you won't get another.
Given the low memory of games at that time, plus being a one-screen game, this game is AWESOME for its playability. My friends who worked at Mattel Electronics then called it Killer Frisbees.
This is an amazing game that I've got much better at in time. You have to use the doors to your advantage more. Getting to a million is a lot easier if you do. Nice review, man!
My favorite game on the system. :) It's been a while since I've played it, but the last time I did I was still able to score the 1,000,000 points to get the orange spawns.
Would have been nice to have the Recognizer in the 2600 version. That said, it was a good port. I the combo pack of Deadly Discs, Adventures of Tron, and the awesome Tron Joystick (which sadly broke during an intense session of Star Raiders on my 400). If I still have it, I should look into getting the broken contact ring 3D printed so that it can live again!
I love this game and would put it a little higher on my list... if you want advice, jam the doors before attacking, teleporting also recovers a hit, so when the leaders start coming, hang out on a side door. if you keep the doors jammed, the recognizers will keep coming and that's how you rack up the points. there's also a bonus for clearing the 3 initial attackers before reinforcements come. I know it's gonna sound cocky, but anything under a mil is a "meh" game for me
This version of deadly discs is superior to the Atari and even the Aquarius computer. Since the Aquarius has superior memory it should have been more upgraded, but no. Great game and nice box art.
Mattel released way too many Tron games for Intellivision. This one is the cream of the crop and a lot of fun. Quality over quantity would have been a better approach for them.
it's certainly not as predictable... I recently got a controller and adapter for my computer emulator and I still routinely get over 1 mil on the regular version, but dogs is a crap shoot.

A true Intellivision Classic... We need this on the Amico!
Licensing issues * cough * * cough *
My friends got this when it launched as we had all just seen the movie in the theaters. Definitely a killer app on the platform...

This is straight up making me want to get an Intellivision.
this was probably one of my favorite intellvision games, i never knew about the duel controller trick, the orange guys were awful, and ran really fast
Great review! I'm remaking this game on Game Builder Garage, so I'm trying to get inspiration on how to create the finer details.
This was my favorite game for the Intellivision
One of my all time favorite games on the Intellivision and more importantly in the arcade.
That gigantic recognizer is pretty scary.

Awesome video No Swear Gamer! :)

then again I logged HOURS on this game as a kid....
Good game, and one which suits the disc controller
I can't wait to play the new deadly disc game for the new intellivision amico console
Last year a coworker bought the Tron board game. Its kinda cool. Have you ever played it?
Bruce!

I kinda prefer the Deadly Dogs version.

It's too bad they didn't have time to swap the red and blue sprites.
this not being in the top 5 makes me question your state of mind...

I hope they release the Amico
