Hey John I enjoy a lot of your videos ,wondering did you know there was a Tecmo super bowl arcade coin op back in the day ,it may have predated the NES version ,,, kind of the way Midway's Narc predated the NES version ,,,your reviews are great ,, test the Super GameBoy Adapter and the GameGeneie on more clones thank you ,,,
I didn’t get to enjoy the Genesis growing up. And knowing what there is to play is just really nice. Not many youtubers out there put in the effort of reviewing retro console games. I needed this and love that it’s done by publisher and letter grade. Again Thankyou John!
There aren’t? I feel like there’s an incredible amount of people reviewing old school games for years now. Not putting John down, what he’s doing is great. It’s just that so many great channels exist, I don’t know how you could say that lol.
In Brazil Tecmo World Cup was the best soccer game that was before the Fifa Soccer titles existed. It has nice songs, big sprites and a very straightforward gameplay, was a favorite for rental back in the day.
I don't know about y'all but I would've love to see a NInja Gaiden game on the Sega Genesis. The Master System version was really good but it would have been cool to see Tecmo upgrade the game for the Genesis.
Why on earth does Genesis Ninja Gaiden force you to walk on diagonals? It makes no sense. Even for being unfinished. Like, why would it be coded like that at ANY point in development?
@@johnhancockretroI don't know what to really think for me, it seems tecmo didn't really care or gave all to much for the sega genesis, they could of made so much more games.
I miss the days of having multiple sports game choices. I'm not one of those people who bashes Madden or 2k every year, I think those games are generally fine. But I would love to see some alternative. There's no reason we couldn't get a new unlicenced (but customizable) Tecmo Bowl with great cartoony graphics and arcade game play. There's been a few (the Super Mega Baseball games are great, Bush Hockey League could have been the start of a decent series if they'd have stuck to it) but I'd like to see more. Especially American football.
Super Tecmo Bowl III shined with the Season play. I college, all of us on our dorm floor would pick a team and we would run seasons. It was awesome. Barry Sanders was unstoppable. :)
I loved tecmo Superbowl 3 because I could take Derrick Thomas and play him at running back. As a kid it was just a lot of fun to do things you know you'd never see in real life.
since i'm not really into Sports, i rarely hear of the name Tecmo in the gaming industry, save for a few series that are pretty damn incredible. DOA, Ninja Gaiden, Monster Rancher, and maybe a couple more but they arent coming to mind.
I remember auto simulating the season on tecmo super bowl with friends at slumber parties and picking from teams that made the playoffs. I was always the Bills and usually ended up in the Super Bowl with whoever picked the Cowboys. It always ended with a 99 yard bomb with a 50/50 shot at a catch for the win. Ahh the good old days.
John, the Tecmo World Cup game is a riot - your passes always reach their target and you just launch a shot at the goal when you're near it. Great game to have a few drinks and play with a buddy. :)
Never got into Tecmo Bowl so my favorite Tecmo Sports game back in the day was Tecmo World Wrestling on the NES. It was a shame it was not brought to the 16 bit systems.
TSB3 is still one of my favorite games and I’ve probably put more hours into it than any other single game ever. This was the first game you could really build a dynasty with.
Can't wait for the Sega published games year by year which will probably take 2 months to do! Btw organizing your game shelf by publisher is really underrated.
These reviews are so good, even if the games might not be. I would love to see your reviews of all Master System games published by different developers
@@danielespeziari5545 correct, SEGA pretty much tried to cut the middle man and sought to fill the library with their own games, they only accepted third party support by the time the Genesis/Megadrive was out and about, by then it was already too late for the SMS to recover.
Try Tecmo Super Bowl on Nintendo DS.. It's basically this game, no NFL licensing but all div, city names, you can change team colors and make it look like NFL. Its awesome. And then on PS3... another awesome Tecmo game... Tecmo Throwback. BEST Tecmo game ever made.
I can't speak to Tecmo's hockey & soccer games because I never played them, but I agree with your rankings for all of the other sports titles. Like you, I also prefer the first Tecmo Super Bowl on Genesis to its sequels, but they're also very enjoyable on their own. It's just a shame II and III seemed to have lost their in-game weather effects, while the SNES didn't have that problem.
When I was a kid, my parents bought me a 19in1 cartridge at our local flea market. I remember it had Tiny toons and Rambo 3 on it. It also had a soccer game that I actually enjoyed and played with my friends a lot... Never knew the name and always wondered what it was... Now I know and apparently its a bad game, hehe
Hmmm...Techmo Bowl III I thought was an A with the draft and career/create player feature they added. But I agree with all the other rankings. Too bad they couldn't make hockey or basketball work better.
Tecmo III suffered due to gameplay. The features were awesome! I played it consistently for several seasons, before going back the original because the gameplay is SO MUCH BETTER. Tecmo III suffered because of the uncontrollable hurdles, A.I. diving at the 1st down line, & RBs & TEs being (mostly) the only receivers getting open. It just wasn't as good on the field.
It’s hard to stand up to NHL 94 - easily one of the cleanest Arcade Hockey games released. Had to do manually controlled goalies or your friends would just blitz you
Tecmo Super Basketball had a better version released on the SNES. All of these sports titles from Tecmo and all I really wanted was a 16-bit follow-up to NES Rygar.
So happy I found this channel. John, your videos are awesome. As a fellow over the hill gamer, I truly enjoy watching your detailed old school game reviews. Keep it up man and thanks for your efforts!!

But Why never some proper 16 bit sequels to Ninja Gaiden & Rygar for Super Nes & Sega Genesis? They were a hot shot developer on the Nes.. But all they did was Sports games for the 16 bit platform.. I find that baffling...
I never heard of Tecmo Hockey! I’ll have to check that out. Super Bowl is the GOAT of football games. II and III weren’t that great. The beauty of those sports games is they offered deep stats not offered on other games at that time.
idk what was on their minds during the 16-bit era, i'm just glad that they got their heads out from between their buttcheeks and gave us DOA as well as Monster Rancher during the Polygon Wars.
@@johnhancockretro hope that the remake breathes life back into the franchise. btw if you love Monster Rancher 2, try the GBA "Advance" titles, they dont look the best but the solid gameplay is there and you dont need Music CDs to "Catch Em All".
