This was super cool! Have you done caribou/reindeer yet? I always found it odd that the majority of Rudolph media [the Rankin-Bass version, Goodtimes Entertainment, Fleschiers, original book] portrayed the "reindeer" as white tailed deer instead of caribou.
Hollow-toothed deer are deer that constitute the genus Odocoileus, there are three extant species: the Mule Deer (Odocoileus hemionus), the White-Tailed Deer (Odocoileus virginianus), and the Black-Tailed Deer (Odocoileus columbianus), they are found only in the New World and are the only surviving genus of the tribe Odocoileini (Nearctic Deer) within the subfamily Odocoileinae (New World Deer).
I agree that the population of this deer species has become overpopulated. They're also commonly seen in human habitats wherever there's enough trees and tall brush. Both of these facts are big reasons why vehicles hit them often. Otherwise, I'm a big fan of venison. Grilled or smoked white-tailed deer is delicious.
What i was taught was not that a bucks antlers grow over his life span, but that each year after he sheds them they come back bigger. Also, you forgot to mention that they are delicious 😋
Actually, males are called stags, "buck" is actually what male goats, true antelope, reedbucks, lechwes, kobs, pukus, waterbucks, and rheboks are called.
No. They are called bucks. Context is what matters. Not what you think they "should" be called. I know other male deer are often called stags, especially in the old world, but here in America they are bucks. Even if you think they shouldn't be
@marvalice3455, actually, the males, females, and juveniles of all deer species are called stags, does, and fawns respectively, the word "buck" applies only to male goats, true antelope, reedbucks, lechwes, kobs, pukus, waterbucks, and rheboks, in fact, bovids and deer are distinguishable, the males, females, and juveniles of most bovid species are called bulls, cows, and calves respectively, for exceptions, male, female, and juvenile goats, true antelope, reedbucks, lechwes, kobs, pukus, waterbucks, and rheboks are called bucks, nannies, and kids respectively and male, female, and juvenile sheep, gazelles, duikers, and dwarf antelope are called rams, ewes, and lambs respectively.
@hia5235, moose and elk are deer, all hoofed mammals with antlers are deer because all deer have antlers, antlers are what define the family Cervidae, where members are all called deer, the males, females, and juveniles of all 70 extant deer species are called stags, does, and fawns respectively.

My local deer.
Thank you. 🙂
So beautiful.
There's a deer population a few miles from me. I live in South Palm Beach County, Florida. I haven't seen one yet.

Fauna from Animal Crossing is most likely this type of deer.
