      Unfortunately it's because they have so many predators and poachers. They've evolved to be solitary and cautious.

      Okapis and Giraffes are each other's closest relatives. Both also fall under the artiodactyl category. Their next closest relatives are pronghorn antelope.

    Ever since I first learned about the okapi while playing zoo tycoon, they've held a special place in my heart. What do you think of these mammals?
    We have another cool video about the okapi's relative, the giraffe. Check it out here:

    It's hard to imagine a small little serval taking out an okapi. I'm used to thinking of servals as rodent killers.

    Wait ..... do Servals even live in dense forested areas? I'd say the only threat to Leopards because Servals and African Golden Cats are tiny and wouldn't really pose a threat to Animals as big as Okapis.

    The pronghorn is a tentative member of that family tree, actually.

    • @indyreno2933
      @indyreno2933 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually, the pronghorn (Antilocapra americana) is classified in its own family (Antilocapridae), which belongs to a broader superfamily known as Giraffoidea, which is the most basal living taxon of pecorans.

    Certain tribes hunt these things and the skin around the hind quarters are never the same, the tribesman wears the tanned skins and sometimes the kill is a rite of passage for the young males.
