Really wonderful and useful exercise , thank you so much for the video Joel! You are Unstoppable Recording Machine in flesh!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Crazy because I’m at work and listening through headphones, and I’m visualizing where on the eq spectrum and visualizing your up and down moves in my head
Killer work, Joel! As an aside, props to the engineer on this session because the tom tracks on this sounded killer straight off the bat. I don't think I've ever been immediately impressed by a raw tom track before!
Beast mode (maybe 10 coffees) activated. Damn. That was awesome man.
Man that’s awesome! So much clarity added with just eqs
This is phenomenal content Joel 🤑
🙏🙏
dang, that was super insightful
hope you get 100,000 views
Thank you!
Started doing this last night after I saw you suggest it in another video. Appreciate it Joel! Also hello from another Wisconsinite 🎉
The final part of my mix prep is to achieve the best balance and pan possible with the supplied tracks. I then make a print (which I always call "SB Rough" - SB meaning Studio Bungalow), even if a rough is supplied. This gets put into the Roughs part of my template and is useful to be able to hear the mix before I applied any processing (my roughs, refs etc bypass my mix busses).
Seriously cool Joel!
Really cool idea, I loved watching it. The timer. Would get me stressed out tho … great job 👍🏼
Amazing stuff Joel! I took your advice from a previous vid, did a balance mix like this with minimal EQ moves, printed it and used that to reference to see if I was making things better or worse, turned out being my best mix so far! Client was super happy
Nice work!
You're a beast! Looks like Speed Mixing on steroids ;)
🙏🙏
Great job Joel love watching your content. love to see you do a 20 mix now. I bet you could some real damage then.
This is sick
Loved it!
🔥🔥 love this
Mario music ❤
damn, thought u was going to mix that Mario song lol. Great work though!
Loving the song
More Iike this please!!!!
speed is insane! 😝
Nice vid, could you so a bus compressor shootout vid?
Loving the Super Mario 64 music
Cubase brother! ❤
This was a super fun video! If you had an extra 5 minutes would you have done compression?
Absolutely!
How much has the control surface helped to improve your workflow? Great video, BRO
It’s a great tool. Highly recommended!
I’m 1 minute into this, and stoked!
1. Balance and pan!!!! 60-70% there (depending on song)
2. EQ
3. Compression (depending on song)
4. FX
If you can’t get it done with that, you can’t get it done (but should keep doing it anyway, because it’s fun and it’s art!).
Thanks as always, from a fellow Sconnie. ❤
Let's do 1 hour itb vs 1 hour analog mix challenge Joel! If you have a time for that of course, I am curious about how similar eq moves will sound in both domains
Still working up that console speed. Ive got 20 years more experience mixing with a mouse so… gotta catch up.
Just went and listened to the actual final song…this mix is way better
The guitars are barely in the final mix 😢
The most profound thing here is that the guy who taught be all about Hipass filters is not even using any.
Have you changed your approach to shelves?
It takes longer to use a HPF vs a shelf when you are speed mixing. Both are useful.
Mixing fast is not “insane” 🙄
