    Just purchased mine and i have to admit that for 544 euros (well, given the current prices and inflation) it really is the sweetspot between very nice quality of materials, decent sounds, capabilities and cost. Tried out the roland 07dmk and alesis nitro and the yamaha one felt more robust than either of them (roland is 200 euros + kick pedal more expensive). Was also worried about the rubber parts cause everyone praises mesh heads, but to me the mesh ones (at this price range) felt too bouncy. Pad size is really ok, yeah bigger could be better but i am really ok with the 8" ones. Rack is really steady, no issues whatsoever, and the height is perfect for an average sized person (i am 180cm tall with long legs and have no issues). Kit is really responsive with very nice trigger accuracy. I am only getting used to the HH pedal , doesnt really feel as a standard Hi Hat stand feels but that s to be expected. It also works for semi-closed and not only as open or closed. Hope i have been of help :)

    Dear Justin hello from Athens Greece!
    I bought this drum set used for about 300$ and I have to say that I’m really impressed how much a value for money this is. This is not my first electronic drum kit but it is definitely the most money worth it compare to the other ones I had. It has its cons like you mentioned in your review but compared to the pros it actually turns out a winner. Very descent sounds and a very well built drum module that when used with the app makes it a really powerful module. Not so many drum sounds but a lot of adjustments you can make and also a very useful extra app from Yamaha, called Rec’n’Share which lets you record and take video at the same time and also adjust mixing and timing.
    I’m very satisfied overall because it is a great practice kit that it is really worth buying it if you find it at a great used condition. I truly recommend it. And also I have to mention that despite the fact that the kit has rubber pads they have a great feel when played!!
    And it is also one of the most quiet kits I’ve ever played.
    Keep up the good work Justin!!
    Regards, Kostas!

    It works as an audio interface. So if you want to record something - just send the sound perfectly well via USB. It excludes metronome sound, and also you can hear sound from computer or DAW. The only concern - you cannot change the volume of computer audio.
    Have bought the 452 month ago for 600 bucks (black friday). Happy that i got Yamaha instead of Alesis that seemed more reasonable taking price into advance.
    Drums are very fun things to play. Build quality is superb, as most times from Yamaha.
    Never thought iI would compose patterns I play clicking on any midi controller.

    Great review! I purchased the 402k, basic model from Guitar Center USED for $349, the condition was LIKE NEW. Upgraded with the Yamaha Kick Tower (sold separately on Amazon for $65). This was my first electric drum set. I use a Simmons 200A amp. I think the kit sounds are good, I really only use the Maple Kit set up. The APP is really what sold me on this. The ability to customize your sounds on your phone is great. Haven’t dived into the training modes yet. When I play along with my iTunes songs the sound levels are mixed nicely by the module. I use my iPhone 8 Plus for this. Be aware you will need to buy a USB A to B cable, then you need to plug that into an Apple USB Camera to Lighting adapter! You need this for the app to work. I’m happy with it. I like the all rubber pads for sound reasons. I suggest buying Vic Firth Headphone, or a good quality pair of headphones, I played with average priced headphones and it sounded horrible! I think it looks good, basic black, minimal, doesn’t take up any space. I hung my stick bag on the Tom rack bar and put all my extra cables and adapters.

      The app thing is a NIGHTMARE to get working when your phone's usb port is worn out. Of course it's not the module nor the app's fault, but they should have included bluetooth to avoid this issue.

    i bought the dtx402k a few weeks back and this is my first drum kit ive owned so please forgive my ignorance if im not sure/clear about a few of the details.
    pro:
    1)i really like the sounds for the price range(im a student and on a tight budget).
    2)the module is really user friendly and so is the app ive not dug deep in but as far as ive seen it is highly and totally customisable.
    3)the pads feel really good(even though they are rubber pads...tight budget hence rubber pads)
    cons:
    1)really wish there was multiple zones on the snare for the 402k model.
    2)the setup can be sometimes annoying like in the video(not as adjustable as id like it to be)
    3)1 audio output.(this can be overcome by irig(works perfectly with iphone though) for recording and listening)
    really clear and crisp review, to the point!
    ps:ill try and explain what headphones i use/my recording setup if anyone is interested

    I DO appreciate this video bro. I just purchased this set (452K I believe) and haven't "much" issues with it besides the drum pads being......cheap made and "tiny" feeling, just like the rack. Sound on the other hand is quite nice hooked up through a Peavey 5150 Combo guitar amp on clean. The drum/tom pads should be at least 9-10 inches across, and the snare could be much bigger in my opinion as well. The 3 part snare is cool, but a little "cramped" if you will. I paid 899.99 (which included yamaha drum stool and yamaha headphones at my local Long and McQuaid). Great content man!

    I’ve had the 452k for 3 days. The rubber pads feel satisfying. I like the module and the fact I can edit pretty much everything without the app - the manual has good information. The training stuff is neat. The kick tower is okay - nothing to write home about. I had the issue with the double kick too so I put the single kick back on for now. The hi hat controller feel decent - the construction feels solid. The rack feels sturdy - I switched it around to play left handed. I would have liked to see Bluetooth to connect the app and music. For what it is the kit is pretty fun to play and I’m looking forward to trying out the app and using USB.

    I would never buy a new entry level kit. I've seen the dtx522 as low as $400 once and multiple times for $500 on the second hand market. I actually bought a dtx502 drum module for $110 once. I'm hoping to see new mid range and flagship model kits from yamaha sometime. It's been long enough.

    • @65Drums
      @65Drums  5 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @n.michaelgiebink5563
      @n.michaelgiebink5563 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think so many other companies were releasing flagships (Roland, Alesis, Pearl, Simmons hobbling back, DW/Gewa, Korg) that there was too much noise. Yamaha chose to innovate rather than arm wrestle with the EAD10. I'm sure these other companies are committed to their models for a few more years. Yamaha can release a flagship in that time that capitalizes on the shortcomings of the others. We all know Roland has an expansion and a couple -kvxsxyAD etc models yet. Alesis has to prove it's durability. Is this DW thing really happening? Are Pearl and Korg making the right move? Their hands are shown. Yamaha is in position to do well now.
      Anyway, I agree, I wish Yamaha had a little mercy to put a silicon snare pad on these kits.

    one of your criticisms is that the module has only one stereo out and so you cannot listen to headphones and also have it run into a speaker. That problem can easily be solved by getting a cheap headphone splitter jack from Amazon or somewhere.

    I purchased the DTX 450 K 2 years ago and I’ve never had a breakdown of any of the components.I put a splitter on the output to record(there is an app for that, too) the biggest con for me is with the add on cymbal, it runs through the kick drum tower. When you hit the add on crash with kick drum accent, you don’t hear the cymbal because of the cymbal running through the kick drum. You’ve mentioned the pad diameter issue. Otherwise the kit is decent. Maybe a little overpriced.

    When you say the pads don't have a rim zone on them, does that mean that it would make it harder to play something like a Bossa Nova beat where it seems you're hitting the drumstick across the rim? I am not sure if that is correct or not, because I don't play drums but am looking into getting a kit to learn on and definitely want to eventually get into Latin rhythms.

    Notice you’re recommending 432 but it only has a 1 zone snare

    • @OggyBleacher
      @OggyBleacher 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the hint is if you really want a 3 zone snare then you are advanced enough that this shouldn't be the price range to look in. These are for beginner/hobbyist/experimenting/curious. So, a single zone rubber snare doesn't bother me since I'm pretty happy if my sticks don't collide in mid air. Rim shots and cross sticking are not a big priority. The DTXmania game doesn't even use multi-zone snare sounds. If I needed 3 zone snare I would probably not want rubber pads and this really small rack. I think these 402 series look nice in pictures but people should keep their expectations low before they buy them. They are simple midi triggers. They aren't fancy. They are good for games and messing around. They are disposable consumer electronics. My biggest complaints with the 400 and 402 series is the rubber pads actually produce such a loud noise when struck that I have to turn the volume up on the monitor to be louder than the stick hitting the rubber. It would drive someone nuts to hear that monotone tap sound without music if I used headphones. They would probably prefer to hear real drums, so the silence benefit is not completely true. Maybe if you are in a basement then no one can hear the pad tap, so that would work. But if they are in the other room, they will definitely hear the pad tap. The second complaint is that they barely accommodate a 6' tall person. Just barely. and if I want to raise just the hi hat, I'm out of luck. There is no way to raise it a few inches. And moving the snare arm also moves the hi hat and vice versa. The two are connected. And why use a square head acoustic drum tuning key as the nut driver for an e-kit? These exclusive square screws suck.
      The dude is correct, they are worth $300, which is what I paid. Nothing in my price range of $300 would be better, so these are as good as it gets. I don't have room for a bigger set so this was my only choice and it's completely adequate. But the 400 series is discontinued years ago and the 402 series will be discontinued very shortly. keep that in mind. The shelf life and support for these kits is short.

    Ive had this kit for just over a year, it does the job, how ever ive had to replace the kick pad 3 times (lucky i got a 2 year warranty). The first time i had to replace it was my fault because i thrashed it with a double kick
    Pedal :( The other two times it just crapped out on me, i pulled the kick pad apart and noticed the trigger had disconnected from the pad itself. Ive resorted to using the “metal” preset kit 24/7 as i put the hi-hat clutch pedal where my kick pedal would go and use that as a bass drum. I mostly play thrash metal any ways so it works out...kinda.It is pretty annoying though because i paid $1500 for it (i live in New Zealand) however before it broke it was very decent, i still play it every day and have fun.

    PS: i watched your videos on sets in different price ranges. should i buy a roland set now, because i want to buy the td50 later anyways or does the brand not mater? I had the mid tier one for quite a while now. It does the job but it can get tiring and I just hate it now. Using it with addictive drums 2 makes it work a bit better but the rubber pads kill this kit. I would save up a bit more and get a Roland to be honest. I'm thinking of selling it and either getting an acoustic kit or a Roland kit. Overall a 7/10.

      Honestly youre better off buying a yamaha kit from the early 2000s... I have a dtxplorer and it blows this shit out of the water.... kinda sad that an entry level kit (the predecessor to the 400 series) is able to do that in 2018. So many missing features in the new 400 series kits... and it somehow manages to sound WORSE than the dtxplorer. And it was only $199 used at guitar center.

    I play a DTX502k, and I quite enjoy it, but I think what bothers me the most is the weird feel of the hi-hat pedal. Luckily there is an upgrade for this, (I believe it’s called a RHH135) but I live in Canada and its extremely hard to find a place that can ship it here, or is here.

      @@mrc25381 this seems like a brilliant idea, but no, i tested wiring the hibat pedal through the pad add on plug in and it seems for some reason it doesnt work with the pedal specifically. idk if you know but you can always set your hihat pedal to be a second bass drum, though ofc you cant use your hihat pedal then. too bad your idea doesnt work :/

      I owned an alesis nitro mesh, the sounds are terrible, and the cymbals are crap (the rack is also to low) . I sold it immediately. I have played this Yamaha, sound is much better, quality of the materials much better, for 100 euro, take the yamaha even with the rubber pads wich are very soft to play.

    PFFFTT.....
    All they did was take the DTX400K, 430K AND 450K and change the cymbals cosmetically and they took the same 400 module and gave it a new exoskeleton.
    In fact the ONLY thing better is they finally got out of bed with CRAPple and added their app to android users. I detest apple!! But all in all, they really didnt make anything new. Very SAD Yamaha!!

    • @65Drums
      @65Drums  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's not a big upgrade on the old version. The new stuff is softer rubber Tom pads, redesigned cymbals, better sounds. I was hoping for more :/

    • @ytTaz480
      @ytTaz480 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      65 Drums
      Not an upgrade at all IMO. At least the measly 10 kits have more rock and metal than the 400 module. That said U can wipe all of them and build whatever U want so its really inconsequential. It DOES sound like they added a better variety of sounds than the bone dry 400 module. On the 400, theres really only one kick sound I like and very limited "rock" sounds for the other pads. The 400 module was heavily modeled off their birch and maple kits, but again, very limited. It also still sounds very "machinegunny".
      How is it for expansion, Justin? Is it still set up for basically only one extra pad, routed through the kick tower?
      I really thought about getting a 502 module after I got my 430K. Around $250 at the time. I did add another pad, tho. Its a rubber pad from a wii drum controller. Does NOT work well with out of the box settings adjustment. Perhaps I could have tuned it better with the stupid apple app but I think I already expressed my feelings about CRAPple. HaHa, I HATE apple. Are U sure it will work with Android as well on this new module? Thats about the only plus I can think of.
      Oh well. My 430K helped get me started playing. Ive been trying to learn off and on for.the last couple years(at age 43). But havent really practiced much for the last 8 or so months. It also wasnt long after, actually a year after, I bought an accoustic kit. SPL Unity Birch 5 pc and 2 different cymbal sets. But I live in an apartment and dont have a lot of room for the kit or noise. Because of that and the E-kit being so boring, its really hard to keep my enthusiasm to play up. Id really like a nicer E-kit like a TD-30 but good luck with that. Sorry such a long comment.
