  • Derby has been in existence, in one form or another, for nearly 2,000 years and has an intimacy, which outstrips any comparative town or city in the region.
It is also a place that was a cradle of the Industrial Revolution and a centre of entrepreneurial flair and artistic activity, which stretches back to the 17th Century.
This unique documentary film looks at the story of Derby from Roman times, through the Saxon, Viking, Domesday and Medieval eras, the Civil War and the '45 Rebellion, to the Industrial Revolution and Thoroughly Modern Derby.
With the aid of archive film of pre-war Derby, specially commissioned modern footage and the views of noted local historian Maxwell Craven, it takes the viewer on a fascinating journey through Derby's remarkable history.

Derby a town of great history, but will go down in the history books as the town that became an accidential city, that was the worst thing that could happen to a wonderful county town, I will certainly never return, it saddens me as to what has happened to such a wonderful town, shame on you past councillors.

Even in my lifetime, it has changed beyond recognition, and not necessarily for the best.

It’s the internet age. Same with most towns. Even Oxford Street is on its ass.

Rolls Royce still here, and growing, the home of Great British Railways. Toyota on the doorstep, St George’s Park England Football HQ as well. Yeah, what a hell hole!

If there is one thing that bugs me most is those double yellow lines everywhere& the cutting off of side streets , are these councilors hell bent on ££££££ in every direction .

The city is a total dump now, full of odd balls and looks like a third world dumping ground. It's poor and scruffy, just sad what has happened to a once nice town.

"Disastrous piece of town planning", if only that applied to the one example. Derby has been disastrously messed about with for years creating the mess it is today.
