    You should visit Lowe & Sons located on the rows. They are the oldest jewellers in Chester and have an in-house museum with ties with the titanic and the royal family. :) Worth the visit!

    Love chester, so beautiful! It's not well known that the canal was made by digging further down into Chester's moat. Lovely bit of original roman wall above it there - by Northgate. 😊

    The video does Chester's former cathedral of St John the Baptist 24:30 a disservice by suggesting the building is a 19th century re-build.
    Although the exterior is a Victorian restoration the interior retains its Norman origins with superb arches and columns plus later medieval monuments.
    The volunteer guides are extremely helpful and a visit is well worth while - and they serve refreshments.

    Thank you. An energetic and comprehensive tour of this ancient historic city. I was born and raised not far from Chester, so visited, oh, dozens of times, and no doubt led to my eventual degree in Medieval History. For those interested, a significant section of Roman wall can be seen alongside the canal, and another section, part of the original Roman dock, out at the Roodee, the Chester racecourse.
    Finally, your correct use of the Roman legions is impressive, adding to what is a wonderfully produced city walk - well done indeed. :)

    its not just the nothgate street pret cafe that has ruins incased in glass, a lot of the ruins are preserved that was in Chester. I used to work in a shop on northgate street and in the stock room there was a whole wall of glass at the back that preserved another set of ruins. There is also the remains of a roman strong room preserved in more glass behind the Forum shopping center. you never know where you'll find them

    It's interesting that the narrator mentions that Chester used to be called Deva Vitrix or was built on a ancient Roman fortress with this name because here in the UK 🇬🇧 we have a soap opera which is set in Chester called Hollyoaks on Channel 4 in which the character of Louise Summers (Roxanne McGee) mentions this historical fact in one episode from 2006 and yet her blonde bimbo friend and co - worker Carmel McQueen (Gemma Merna) didn't understand this fact and thinks she (Louise) is talking about the fact that Thailand used to be called Siam LOL! Such a shame Louise and Carmel were both killed off though in 2008 and 2014 respectively!

    At 3:16 / 39:12 you can see Chester cathedral ⛪ which was recently seen in an episode of Hollyoaks were Ste Hay was having his stag do before his marriage to James Nightingale but unfortunately Tony Hutchinson tied Ste to the lampost outside whilst he was wearing a rainbow 🌈 coloured tracksuit and Tony together with Sienna Blake had to rescue him. Then as the guests were stood outside Chester registary office at 5:08 / 39:12 Sienna asks her boyfriend Ethan Williams to join in a game of charades and Ethan does the dance to the Little Eva / Kylie Minogue song the loco - motion and everyone though he was doing a song about sex and Ste's son Lucas was so embarrassed LOL!

    • @tomspence8506
      @tomspence8506 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lynn Ballington I think you maybe interested to know that you have accidentally spelt both video and fantastic wrong and that Hollyoaks was originally filmed in Chester, but filming now takes place in a suburb of Liverpool called Childwall. Mersey Television (now known as Lime Pictures) moved production of Hollyoaks from Chester to Liverpool in 2000 as it was not practical for the Hollyoaks production team to film in Chester because it was too expensive to go back and forth between Liverpool and Chester. I hope you don't mind me pointing that out.

    What part of the walls is original?

    • @Faye-vr6jc
      @Faye-vr6jc ปีที่แล้ว

      the foundations and lay out of the wall is pretty much unchaged since the roman period. unfortunately this means that parts of the walls are often closed for repair work usually every other year or so to keep everything in tact and still standing

    I don't know why you have to show us so many churches all the time. People have them wherever they live and we know what they look like and what they are for.....they are basically all the same. People aren't typing in 'walking in chester' so they can learn about the history of churches. You should perhaps change the title of your videos to the HISTORY of places. You mention the past more than the present.
