Simple steps on how to check plain/journal bearing clearance by using plastigauge.
The clearance is very important to ensure proper lubrication pass through.
The oil wedge provides hydrodynamic lift or we called it sliding thick film lubrication.

How to adjust clearance of bearing?

1.If the clearance too small, we can try to manual scrap the bearing surface using bearing scrapper, you can search for 'bearing scrapper' for the tools. The disadvantage of this method, uneven surface will appeared.
2. If the clearance too small, we also can try to machine or skim both bottom and upper bearing diametral based on measurement.
3. If the clearance too big, need to replace new bearing or re-babbit the bearing surface(White metal).
