I used to "lust" after this tractor (model) after years of driving the 60 hp 4000 and 4600, i bought a second hand 5000, i should have bought the 7000 it was a boys dream! thanks for sharing
I think at least some of the reason to why the 7000 became so popular is that it was basicly one of the first "compact" tractors with good power. and very fair priced at the same time. Both Deutz and IH had similar powered tractors, but they were larger. Deere had the 3130, but it was down on torque compared to the 7000. Also, the 7000 was fairly fuel efficient, probably only beaten by the Deutz. The 5000 never really impressed me compared to other tractors of the same size and years. There both Deutz, Fiat and IH was just as good if not better, but that 5000 engine turned out to respond very well to turbocharging, making it a serius contender.
Dad had a 1966 4000 3 cyl split grille, it was a good old tractor. I'm sure the 7000 was too but to compete against the JD 4020 (one of the most iconic tractors of all time) and then the 4230/4240 was a pretty tall order, at least in the US. Cool video!
My great grandpaw had a 3600, that was repowered with a 4000 series engine about 30 years ago or so I guess. It's similar to the 2310 my grandpaw has but way more power on tap. And to think the 7000 is 50% more power than that. My Great grandpaw's hobby was strawberry farming after he retired he raised about 15 acres of straberries from my dad's teens pretty much untill he passed when I was small. I remember riding around to and from the small strawberry farm with him in his worn out 70s C10 pickup.
@@Wingnut353 Sounds like some good memories and a lot of strawberries! Mom had a patch in the garden, she and my sisters made both biscuit and sponge cake shortcake, preserves, etc. I Googled the 3600 and the 2310 looked pretty similar to Dad's 4000.
Great Tractor,First Mass Produced Turbo Tractor,It was Popular Because of its Power to Weight and Power For Price,I Have Driven a Few Ford Tractors and Used a 7610 a Lot Which has Improved Engine over the 7000. They had Great Flexability and Pulled from Tickover with a 7 Ton Trailer No Problem in High Range,Also the Other Great Feature of Ford Tractors Was Duel Power Being able to Shift under Load with out the clutch to get you out of Troulble.
Use to pull a two row silage chopper with mine it pulled the guts out of it but it never let me down the pipe would be glowing red after dark its a wonder it didnt burn that ol thing up
