Great video thank you for sharing. Very interested in the Cirrus Aircraft, have not had the pleasure yet but would like the opportunity to ride and or fly in one. With regards to the FIKI how well does the system work compared with other types of FIKI systems on GA aircraft ? let's say you enter a patch of moderate mixed icing that was not forecast and the build up is very quick does the system still prevent build up to the extent a safe flight can be continued ? Reason I ask I flew a twin cessna years ago in 135 cargo ops and although the aircraft was certified known icing on one occasion I got into some serious ice that was not forecast and the build up was so severe the system in this case could not cope with the rapid buildup of ice ,my point is not to dissect my flight years ago nor this flight just curious how effective the system is in comparison to other FIKI systems..thanks.
That is a very tough thing to answer here. Simple answer is whenever you don't feel it is safe and/or you don't feel comfortable flying in those conditions. Mostly comes down to your understanding of the weather that day and your comfort level. Please don't take the advice of someone on youtube. There are many amazing flight instructors with the answers to what you are asking about. Please seek one out to help evaluate this with you.
The FIKI system has a titanium boot on the leading edges of the wings, elevator and vertical stablizer. The titanium has micro-sized holes where the fluid emanates from and as you fly the fluid flows back on the upper and lower side of the wing. It also has ports on the prop, and the windshield is also sprayed with FIKI solution. The plane has dual TKS tanks, one in each wing which holds almost 10 gallons of fluid. There are three levels of fluid flow and two pumps (redundancy).
Weather, Winds, Distance, Direction, Performance, Oxygen, Comfort, Temperature, Mood, Fuel, $$, Passengers, etc.. etc.... There are many reasons why we could choose the altitudes we fly, but yes. Mostly we can choose the altitude we want to fly but, ultimately the altitude you will fly can also depend on if you are flying VFR or IFR. Basically VFR you can fly up to 17,999' and choose where you want to be with a few rules and restrictions. If IFR, you can choose what you want but with more rules and limitations. While IFR you will likely be told to fly different altitudes during your flight as per instructions by the controller. Too many details to give you here. Just search VFR flight rules and IFR flight rules and many things will come up. :)
when you mean icing conditions what do you mean? is your plane equipped with proper equipment to de ice and anti ice your critical surfaces? if not, id say this flight is illegal :/
Conditions that can produce ice on the airframe. Yes this aircraft is properly equipped with a FIKI approved factory installed TKS anti-ice system and is 100% legal to fly through these conditions. Nothing illegal about this flight.
I respect your ADM. The level of proficiency, ability & comfort will be different for everyone. I surely would not advise anyone to do anything they are not comfortable with. I was very confident and comfortable that my decision to do this flight would end safely.
Good video. I'm sure a lot of work went into putting it all together after the flight. You might want to proofread a bit more closely. Are you aware of the difference between the words "breaks" and "brakes"? The mechanical friction system on the truck and aircraft for stopping is BRAKES, not breaks. Check your on-screen note......
The cirrus seem to handle well in known icing conditions. I enjoyed watching all 33 minutes and 37 seconds. Awesome video!
Thanks!
Nice video of FIKI capability. Really like the full length videos. Beautiful IFR procedures. Thanks for sharing!
I like your style-cool calm and collected. Good radio communication.
Friendliest ATC guys ever!
Very nice. Enjoyed the ride along especially on the approach, wish there was one more camera!
Thank you!
Thanks for sharing that detailed "flight in icing conditions"-video :D - it's very intresting!
You are welcome Sir.
Enjoyed the video and appreciate your sharing. Understand these are a lot of work editing, etc. They are great!
Thank you!
Thanks for sharing this video of your anti-ice system in action! Feel free to let us know if you have any questions about TKS.

Happy to share. Thanks for the comment!
nice flight. That was very educational.
Thanks!
Thank You 4 sharing excellent work
Welcome, Thanks!
Nasty weather. FIKI capability is awesome. I would not have been able to make this flight in my non FIKI 20.
FIKI is awesome for sure!

Thanks 4 posting.
When would you consider at No Go with icing with this plane?

So jealous of the FIKI.
I learned a few things on this -- Thanks for posting.
Happy to share!
Mountain Pilot I agree with Glenn, plus that's a beautiful plane....CAPS system?, happy flying 👍
Thanks!
What are we seeing outside of the window in the air at 2 mile final? Looks like giant snow flakes or something but I can't tell.
I think you are just seeing the Ice melting and running back with the TKS fluid in small pieces.
could you do a longer readback
at 1:37 you said clear for take off when he just cleared you to taxi only
I'm not hearing that.
He said "tango", not take off. Maybe you got that one wrong...?
he didn't say cleared for takeoff - he said his abbreviated callsign '34 tango'
He needs to improve his spoken RT. Slow down..
Do you need to concern yourself with prop icing up. on our 97's we had electric deciding on the props.
The TKS system on the FIKI Cirrus coats the prop with TKS fluid.

Let me ask a non-pilot question. Do you choose the altitude that you fly at! So why 6000' and not 9000' or other? Is it based on winds, weather?

You should have used two mics

Perfect! Just wanted to make sure you were being safe! Happy flying :)
Not quite sure why you would fly in these conditions?
I evaluated the weather, the airplane and myself. I felt I was perfectly safe to make this flight under these conditions.
Mountain Pilot I have been to Garrett county, there is nothing there that warrants taking this type of risk ;-)
I respect your ADM. The level of proficiency, ability & comfort will be different for everyone. I surely would not advise anyone to do anything they are not comfortable with. I was very confident and comfortable that my decision to do this flight would end safely.
Mountain Pilot It was certainly interesting to watch. But, clearly your skill sets far exceed mine. thanks
I agree with you training can't be substituted for good decision making to manage risk.
That are no icing conditions,
Good video. I'm sure a lot of work went into putting it all together after the flight. You might want to proofread a bit more closely. Thanks. Sorry for the typo.
Avoid icing conditions even if the plane is rated for it...
that stuff will kill you.
On no, landing on a runway with ice on it. Good thing you're not flying in northern Canada in the winter. Your video sir, is a joke.
Sorry to disappoint you guy. Wasn't going for an extreme type of video.
