@KajuTheRudeMonke Correct. Raw materials are only 4 tiers. Data and Manufactured materials have 5 tiers. The point is the same, tho. Whatever it is that you are going to farm, trade away what you have before you go fill it all back up again, especially the Raw Mats big farm systems -as they are quite a bit away from the bubble. With engineering fixed up now and an SCO drive, the other 2 are quite easy to find and harvest. Still good to trade the common HGE G5 for the trickier ones to find and just farm near a trader system.
I for one appreciate the time and effort you put into this guide, given how much time spend in Elite, gathering materials it is a good return on time investment. Also, I have noticed a big improvement in your production values in your videos, given you are just starting out... well done.

I am definitely not a native English speaker. But even for the people who do talk and explain in my native language, if they talk too fast and explain too fast, I stop the video and I don't go back to their channel. The way they talk is like the way they talk to their friends. Well done!
I wasn't aware that FDev had slightly nerfed the crystal plants.. so thanks very much for this info. I used to use my trusty DBX for raw mats harvesting. Looks like I might need to re-jig one of my Pythons (or maybe a 'Conda like you did) for this. But that will be a while yet. I will try and get that posted up for you, in the next day or so. You might want to make a few changes, it is kind of cobbled together, it works but is a little lacking in some areas.
Very useful video! I was aware of surface mining like this, but you included a lot of details I wasn't aware of. Also, is thought the crystal planets were completely useless in the Odyssey era. Glad to know they're still a reliable source, even if it takes more time. I miss driving around them collecting mats, though.
This way is still faster than the old way. The old way the most time consuming part was waiting for the shards to fall to the surface... I got really good at boosting the SRV up, doing a barrel roll and snatching the shards in mid air though 🙂
@@RaineDearGames-jx4zb LOL! I never did it with a barrel roll, but catching them mid-air was always a fun challenge. And the haters say that collecting mats is a grind!
Thanks for this iv done 1 round trip vollecting all these but did it in srv and this way seems much quicker. Also thanks for a proper voice over! Great tutorial 👌

@RaineDearGames-jx4zb no I bet its eye opening when u have to make video but I'm glad you aren't using a.i now Gna be taking my conda out tonight to try this. Many thanks
A little tip about the remote release flak launchers. You may have the free ones FDEV gave out in your outfitting store from when they did that event some time back, I can't remember what it was, but they were basically engineered with different colours so they could be used as "fireworks", so probably Guy Fawkes night here in the UK, or your regional equivalent, 4th of July or whatever. Anyway, these particular remote release flak launchers DO NOT work for farming trees, as I personally found out after travelling the 1500LY trip. This was before I saw this video btw. I believe these free launchers are massively nerfed on there damage output, I guess so people could fire them at each other willy nilly, as you do with fireworks in real life, and as a result they do not have enough DPS to shift a shard from a tree. You can only use the "real" remote release flak launchers which you have to buy. The wiki is the best place to find where to buy these as they are not just available anywhere from what I can see, and I think they have to be unlocked. As for the video, I've never heard anyone else make the connection on what might happen with the hoards of abandoned limpets, that is such a funny idea 😆. And the precedent has already been set with VGER on Star Trek! 🤣, which I believe is actually in the game, pre-sentience.
5:10 I prefer B rated Collector Limpet Controllers. The A rated ones have a longer lifetime, the B rated ones have a higher collection range. B rated are also cheaper and cost less power.
Might be worth mentioning if you have not unlocked the Flechette Launcher you can use dumbfire missiles, but the blast radius is poor and not very effective by comparison. Would definitely recommend getting the launcher if you are going to try this.
Thanks! Really helpful step by step video. Using it now-this method is so much faster and more enjoyable than skidding around aimlessly in the SRV. It's dark up above the orbital plane isn't it? -I love the way the skybox changes depending where you are in the galaxy.
You are welcome, glad you found the video useful and yes, definitely faster than the old collection methods. Lots of different sights to see in the galaxy for sure, right now I am at a neutron star orbiting a black hole 🙂
Awesome Vid one trick I use to use with stuff being moved around from Horizons to Odyssey was to just log into Horizons so stuff is where it's always been and and anything you collect carry's back into Odyssey, this worked well for stuff like this...or use too have not try in a long long time lol... That is Normal Horizons not Legacy that was not around beck then lol
I do High Grade Emissions with an Asp Scout, no, no. It's all it does and it does it perfectly. I use a Courier for Jameson Crash site. Throw it at the floor and it just lands. Great. I don't bother going all the way out to the trees. It's a long, long way. I get enough from the Crashed Anaconda in Orrere and from the Brain Trees. There is one 300 Ly from the bubble. A fantastic drop rate at the Guardian Obelisk spin location, 1.2Km from where you sit and spin in your SRV. There is also one (which I need to check out again) in the bubble.
I have a lot to learn in elite. Not exactly sure what ive just watched but it lokked brilliant. Must say the Anaconda looks a fantastic ship. (ps, decided to jump the 200 warps back home so not at darkstar anymore) :D
It is probably the most complicated game I have ever played, made worse by the fact that Fdev doesn't really do a good job of explaining things to new players... just here is a loaner Sidewinder, good luck! (you're gonna need it!) 🤣Most of the things you see protruding from my Anaconda are just cosmetic add-ons (gotta spend those ARX on something), the ship is sleeker looking without them and they do absolutely nothing, but feed my ego 🙂
100 more jumps then im going to get myself HIGHLY confused with going to see felicity for a fsd upgrade. Once I shoot some wird looking purple looking things off of some even weirder looking spikey things.. i'll figure it out.. eventually..
@@tonyllinx You may find you are going to need more than just raw materials for the upgrades you need to your FSD, you may want to check Inara for exactly the items you need to upgrade before making the trip. The pre engineered FSD I suggested is a pretty good deal 🙂
Thanks for this. You went far for this😅. Heard great things about same idea about Brian trees worlds as well. Edit just finished the video should have guessed you talk about Brian 🎄
Glad you found it useful, all part of running a TH-cam channel, have to make content somehow 🙂 That Brian guy can be hard to find, so, video wouldn't be complete without talking about him... 🤣
Glad you found it useful, I just wish I could get motivated to do some more videos, I have alot of ideas for them... even some half finished but I seem to have lost my motivation to do anymore 😥
Thanks for the guide. That's the most tedious and weird "gameplay" I've done in Elite so far. I feel like my gpu doesnt always render the spires consistently so I'm sometimes wondering if I'm going to fast in my ship or if im too high enough. And the limpets getting stuck or something is very infuriating.
as someone else mentioned in the comments it might be useful to lower your graphics settings for this particular part of "gameplay" I tend to max my settings out with ultra settings because I am making a video afterall, so the heights might be different from other people, hope this helps 🙂
You'll have to move to my knowledge, there was apparently an update to how many materials you get from one area (increased) but I haven't checked as I haven't logged into the game in months. If you need to move you just need to fly your ship normally until you spot another grouping of shard trees, they are pretty common and it won't take long to find another grouping of them 🙂
Thanks for taking the time to reply. One last Q. When you said the "proper colour" , is that just anywhere in the large turquoise blue areas you see? Or is there a different shading in there, I could not tell from your clip.
@@derekajpayne Yeah, that is the proper color on this planet, although most of the planet is listed as a hotspot, the dispersion of trees is pretty sparse compared to other biological hotspots on other planets, so it is less critical, compared to looking for other life on other planets where sometimes the hotspots are tiny in comparison and you don't really see them until just before you drop out of orbital cruise. There are lists of planet coordinates that people have mapped on these planets, where much larger groupings of trees exist, out there on the internet. But, I think with how fast this method is for collecting, it matters less where you are, because you never land, never leave your ship... it is quite fast and easy to fly to next grouping of trees.🙂
You have just earned a Sub thanks to this video! However, for someone who is returning to the Horizons Black Sea after 2-3 years of inactivity (namely because of school) I know about the Jameson Farm for Data Farming and this one for Raws (no one ever gave a clear explanation (Thank you for that btw)) but for Manufactured, I've heard of a place called "Dav's Hope" but that's mostly it. Finding it should be easy. I'm assuming it works in a similar manner to the other two (collect, relog, repeat) but just in case: Do you know if that has changed at all and if so, what changed and do you plan on doing a guide for the other two (Data and Manufactured) as well? All the other guides about them seem out of date. This would be the most up to date guide I've found.
Not a quick subject to cover, for me I still go to the Jameson crash site to collect data, sounds like you know the routine there... collect log repeat and go to Diaguandri to trade... works but slow because of the trading across costs alot. Manufactured, I planned on doing a video on. Yes you CAN go to Davs hope but a better way is high grade emissions, it would take too long to go into detail here, but if you are interested check out videos done a few years ago by @hawkesgaming the method still works, but high grade emissions seem to be a bit harder to come by nowadays, especially ones of a duration long enough to make them worthwhile, than they used to be. The basic premise still holds and is much, much faster than doing the loop at Davs hope. Imperial shielding is by far the easiest high grade to gather and trading across for the hard to get ones like Pharmaceutical isolators, still holds. There are some manufactureds that you can only get as mission rewards, like focus crystals and bio conductors. Best bet for those is either Robigo passenger runs (boring) or combat missions like pirate kill missions. If you go the pirate route, stack a bunch of missions from the same provider and lots of the time, killing one pirate counts in several of the same missions. Also doesn't hurt to do the pirate missions for factions like Sirius, as you can use the reputation gain to aid in gaining access to permit locked systems, engineers and gain ranks for unlocking ships... doesn't hurt to kill more than one bird with a stone. Hope this helps 🙂
Another awesome video, thank you so much ! I've never been to the Crystalline Shard planets so I'm going to head out there when I've grabbed my elite rank in Exobiology (from your *other* awesome tutorial video) =D Thank you again for your awesome content !
@@RaineDearGames-jx4zb Hey you keep makin' 'em ? I'll keep watchin' 'em =D And thanks to this video and your one on Exobiology I've fully fitted-out a brand new Anaconda specifically for the purposes of *this* mat gathering route, and now I'm going to put it to the test =D Thank you again for your awesome tips and guides =D
Yes, in the description I mention its a good idea to have around a 35-40ly range. some have had success plotting a route, with a shorter jumprange, by first travelling up from the bubble a few hundred light years and then trying to plot from there... but I can't guarantee success, best to try and increase jumprange first. 🙂
Regarding how far you have to fly away from the planet surface, until the crystal-trees disappear: I guess it's the same, as with the brain-trees - turn down the graphic quality (Options - Graphics - Quality --> Low) then it should be much nearer to the surface. Which makes collecting faster 🙂
Great video, there's always something more to learn in this game! I wonder what other uses we can find for flak launchers like this! Do they work at guardian sites?
If you need to break something open to get inside, like at a crashed Anaconda with cargo racks like at KOLI DISCII C-6A, yes and you can get some high grades there too... I haven't tried Guardian sites, you can use limpets to collect materials at DAVS HOPE... so maybe?
Hi guys can anyone post up 3 or 4 way points on these routes from Shinrarta Dezhra. I keep struggling to get a route...end up getting lost? Much appreciated
Sorry for late response, for some reason I wasn't notified of this message. I hope you have figured out how to get there in the month since you posted 🙂 If not my guess would be you are using a ship with a low jumprange you need around a 40 LY range, you can plot a route with a bit less if you travel straight up from the bubble a few hundred LY first (don't have specific route, as that was for my first trip to these planets years ago. If you have a ship with a decent jumprange you shouldn't have any difficulty plotting a route from the bubble. Hope this helps Commander 🙂
@@RaineDearGames-jx4zb Thanks for getting back, I do have a long range Asp but never made it? Kept getting lost? But with the new mats drops I think I'll stay closer to home:)
Not only did they spread out these crystal locations more they now also no longer show in the nav panel which makes it almost impossible to find these locations. Mat farming is now more of a grind than it ever was before.
Hello can you tell me if you have only fleet carrier to got gas fix everything and amunition in that area like in Senuefe system when you explore guardians structures, as there are no Federation, empire, alliance system over there and don't want to risk to blow up my Anaconda to got gas from stars so i need tellurium for fsd v1 class 5 to increase of 10.50 jump range and some for guardians equipment ,anyway thanks for information if you have more like that i would like to know as im in elite dangerous for 2 months now and it takes to much time to got everything before starting adventure journey and appreciate it
Honestly your best bet is re-fueling from stars, run a good sized scoop to reduce refuel time... just don't get too close, once your refuel rate reaches about half of the rated maximum of the scoop... most ships can just sit there (you don't need to move your ship once refuel starts) and refuel without overheating. You can see the stars 'exclusion zone' the dangerous area as a circle around the star as you move towards it, just avoid going inside this circle. The truth is, although the 'taking heat damage' looks and feels dramatic, it really doesn't do alot of damage overall... I watched videos on combat where the ship goes up to 600% heat and they didn't blow up... it's not that bad 🙂. Also some stars you can't scoop from at all like brown dwarves and T-tauri stars... they are distinctive looking and have a much larger exclusion zone, relative to their size. If you are determined not to refuel from stars at all, you best get used to the idea of not leaving the bubble of 'civilized' space. I wouldn't recommend going anywhere without a fuel scoop. ... that or make friends with someone with a Fleet Carrier and tag along everywhere they decide to go. Best of luck, commander 🙂
awsome vid, so basic to follow, you are a god. PS; in the vid description, systems for YTTRIUM, ANTIMONY is misspeled. [ OUTOTZ LS-K D8-3 ] not double T
Actually not, these aren't Guardian Shard cannons, no unlock required. You can buy them at most Military, High Tech manufacturing stations, just use Inara to search them out. Thanks for checking out my channel. 🙂
@@RaineDearGames-jx4zb thanks I realised when I got there that I was using flechette launchers, not flak launchers 🤣, have edited my comment to avoid confusion for others haha
hello! i encountered a problem with plotting a route , ive got 41 ly jump range and 38 with all limpets and even when im on empty it says route plotting error route unavailable, how to fix?
Sometimes it depends on your starting location, when I made my first trip out to the Crystal Shard planets (quite a few years ago), I did it in a ship with a 30 LY range... but in order to make it work I had to first plot a route up from the bubble around 500 LY or so then plotted a route from there to the Crystal Shard planets... I can't guarantee success with this method as I don't have the exact system I plotted that route from anymore, but might be worth a try, hope this helps 🙂
I believe it will, so long as you have access to the 'remote release flak launchers' I'm not sure though, since they updated the planet tech in Horizons to match that in Odyssey, it used to be my work around to log into Horizons to gather material and avoid the way that Odyssey spread the shard trees out... but since they updated Horizons I haven't logged in to Horizons. To tell you the truth I haven't logged into the game at all in months, been going through some stuff, it's all I can do to log in to TH-cam here once every week or ten days to catch up on messages.
FDev adds planetary surfaces and SRVs so you can explore and collect materials. But using the ship to do it is infinitely better so nobody uses the SRVs for that. Peak game design. PS. I wonder if using an abrasion blaster has the same result?
I still find driving around in the SRV to be fun... just not for collecting materials anymore, mainly stunt driving. As for the abrasion blaster, it SEEMS on it's face it MIGHT work... I guess it wouldn't hurt to bring one along and see... in the name of science, of course 🙂
Depends on your jumprange, about 40 LY will work, more is better. When I first started out I managed to do it with a ship with less, but I had to jump up from the bubble first a few hundred light years, the computer likes to plot in a pretty straight line, so if there is a gap between you and the destination it will fail to plot. 🙂
One thing I found. Lowering the graphics for terrain made the trees despawn around 600m, easier for limpits, harder to locate patches. With ultra settings, my limpets get stuck at 1k+ elevation, or limpits can't tell there is loot. :(
When was the last time anyone tried this as I’ve tried this on two different sets of recommended planets and all you get is no valid target messages after blasting around 100 patches I think in 7 hrs blasting I got around 100 g4/5 mats!!!! Just on my way to try this method/planet group as a last go before binning this farming method so interested to know if anyone has got it working recently? Either way great vids they are funny and informative 👍
If you are after Selenium and are at a Braintree site, that is one of the problems with farming selenium with this method... as mentioned in the video, Braintrees don't just give selenium... but also give some low value raws too, which why I mentioned that the geological sites can work too.
Make sure you're not using the flak launchers given as a community reward they are fireworks launchers and have much reduced damage values, probably too low to knock materials off the trees.
Strangely selenium is the one I farmed slowly but eventually it's all the rest I get the no valid collection targets after hours of blasting not at hip36601 though trying that tonight, I only have a choice of flak in outfitters which are 2b auto release looks like for xeno fighting so not sure if wrong ones or not
I used HR 3230 3AA for brain tree selenium which worked used Synuefe BY-F D12-39 A2 for polonium and got 1 piece in about 4 hrs blasting with 99.9% of shots saying no collectable target it's weird
@@Spudd66 That doesn't sound right at all. Have you tried blasting them right up close and personal, then backing away to launch limpets? and you are making the cannisters explode at the right time? they aren't skipping away off the ground? I mean I just used this method last week, when I filmed the footage for this video and it worked then... if you are doing everything right, then I don't know what to suggest.
s.orbis.zone/nw-p It was heavily engineered for exploring, so will take a bit of engineering to get it to work. If you only put 5 flak launchers on it, you shouldn't have to disable anything 🙂
You shouldn't have to target the materials at all, should collect automatically as soon as you launch limpets as long as they aren't on your ignore list. As long as you are high enough the limpets shouldn't hit anything 🙂

You can 'buy' ship kits with the ARX's under 'Livery' section also custom paintjobs, Engine colors, weapon colors, different ship voices... outfits for your character. Not all kits are available for all ships. You can 'Earn' up to 400 ARX's free a week, just by doing stuff in game like handing in exploration data... or you can buy the ARX'S with real money, though I don't recommend that. Just save your weekly ARX's up and be sure of what you want to buy. Some things like ship kits can be pretty expensive, like 20,000 ARX's... so it might take a few months of maxing out your free ARX's to get something you want. They are only cosmetic and provide no real benefit except looks.

If you are asking is the carrier where I left it to be used for Exobiology from the Exobiology to billions video then yes, it's location is in the video description for that video. If you are asking is there a carrier located where the crystal shard planets are in this video, mine never was there but there are usually quite a few located there owned by other commanders, full time. 🙂
Well, I was referring to how the the planets had been changed and the "little more time" refers to the old method of driving around in a SRV to collect the minerals. It would be impossible to define how much more time the old method with the new planet tech would take, as that would depend greatly on where the Commander decided to land his ship. Rest assured this new method is much faster than either, the old method with the old planet tech and the old method with the new planet tech. Hope this clears up any confusion 🙂

But raw mats only go to 4 though right?
There are no G5 raw mats.

Good tip for those Commanders that have the fireworks launchers 🙂
They were a Christmas reward. Thats why they're red and green and... i forget the third color.

All good knowledge to have.

I've been collecting mats a long time - but I've never tried this method...
Will certainly be referring to this in the future o7 o7
When I found out about this about a year ago, I was like, no way... that's so much easier.
Hi once you have flaked and collected the shards, can you re flak the same shards? Or do you have to move to a different site on the planet each time?

Do you need a min. jump range before heading out to these sites? I can't seem to plot them on the Gal Map.. :(
Yes, in the description I mention its a good idea to have around a 35-40ly range. some have had success plotting a route, with a shorter jumprange, by first travelling up from the bubble a few hundred light years and then trying to plot from there... but I can't guarantee success, best to try and increase jumprange first. 🙂
I originally did the shards using the normal srv method
Same here. This way is far more efficient
Regarding how far you have to fly away from the planet surface, until the crystal-trees disappear: I guess it's the same, as with the brain-trees - turn down the graphic quality (Options - Graphics - Quality --> Low) then it should be much nearer to the surface. Which makes collecting faster 🙂
good tip, I like to keep my quality set to the max for making content though 🙂

Best of luck, commander 🙂

hello! i encountered a problem with plotting a route , ive got 41 ly jump range and 38 with all limpets and even when im on empty it says route plotting error route unavailable, how to fix?
Sometimes it depends on your starting location, when I made my first trip out to the Crystal Shard planets (quite a few years ago), I did it in a ship with a 30 LY range... but in order to make it work I had to first plot a route up from the bubble around 500 LY or so then plotted a route from there to the Crystal Shard planets... I can't guarantee success with this method as I don't have the exact system I plotted that route from anymore, but might be worth a try, hope this helps 🙂
Do you need the Odyssey dlc for this? Or just horizons
Should work in Horizons, if you have access to the remote release flak launchers 🙂
Will this work on horizon as I am currently playing on laptop and away from my pc so I can grind and engineer ships

Great video mam; very cool Anaconda ship design
Thanks... gotta spend those ARX's somewhere... I refuse to spend them on a new ship though 🙂
Great work, thank you. But I can't plot a route to these systems! any ideas?
Depends on your jumprange, about 40 LY will work, more is better. When I first started out I managed to do it with a ship with less, but I had to jump up from the bubble first a few hundred light years, the computer likes to plot in a pretty straight line, so if there is a gap between you and the destination it will fail to plot. 🙂
One thing I found. Lowering the graphics for terrain made the trees despawn around 600m, easier for limpits, harder to locate patches.
With ultra settings, my limpets get stuck at 1k+ elevation, or limpits can't tell there is loot. :(
Damn this is so much faster :D also i always get motion sickness easily driving the SRV >
Glad you found the video useful, I know the feeling... I can't play COD without getting sick, in about half an hour 🙂
I don't have the odyssey does this work in horizons?
I believe it does, as long as Horizons has access to the 'Remote Release Flak Launchers' it should work 🙂
When was the last time anyone tried this as I’ve tried this on two different sets of recommended planets and all you get is no valid target messages after blasting around 100 patches I think in 7 hrs blasting I got around 100 g4/5 mats!!!!
Have you tried blasting them right up close and personal, then backing away to launch limpets? and you are making the cannisters explode at the right time? they aren't skipping away off the ground? dont suppose you could tag your build. i'm just getting back into it and this seems ideal! Great video thank you!

Cant “target” the mats a decent amount of the time and the limpets always slam into the surface.
You shouldn't have to target the materials at all, should collect automatically as soon as you launch limpets as long as they aren't on your ignore list. As long as you are high enough the limpets shouldn't hit anything 🙂

@@Spudd66 No, that doesn't sound right, if you are only getting low grades try going up in supercruise and coming down in a different part of the planet. However, I can't explain how at the shard planets you aren't getting any collection targets.

How to have antennas on ships?

If you are asking is there a carrier located where the crystal shard planets are in this video, mine never was there but there are usually quite a few located there owned by other commanders, full time. 🙂
Please define your term "Little more time".
Hope this clears up any confusion 🙂

o7 Commander, thanks for checking out my channel 🙂
😂 so you're telling me i could have done this WITHOUT A RC CAR ??? 🤦😆
Yeah, but driving around in the SRV can be fun too, it's how I got so good at doing jumps and loops was shooting the shards off and instead of waiting for them to fall to the ground, boost up with the cargo hatch open and scoop them up mid air... can be fun for a break. 🙂
Damn... You talk so slow I almost died of old age.
18:00 minute video that could have easily been done 1:80...
But I appreciate the time and effort to make this.
Some people like it when things last longer…
A 2:20 video is useless to a creator, youtube won't run ads on it and the creator gets nothing in return... I for one am grateful for the information provided and given the amount of time people spend in Elite trying to gather raw materials, I consider it a good return on time investment. If you think you can do better, perhaps you should start your own channel... and see how things go for you.
EDIT: Sorry I guess you did... easy to miss, what with your 3 subscribers over 15 years.
I'm sorry you didn't find the video to your liking...
@@joetuktyyuktuk8635 Maybe if this was 18 minutes of actual content, instead of 16 minutes of "uhmmm" where the viewer starts to fall asleep waiting for it to resume.
