    Lord Dufferin was Viceroy between 1884-1888. British. The capital of India was shifted from Calcutta to Delhi on 12 December 1911 during the 1911 Imperial Durbar. I couldn't find any record Dehradun being in books to be considered India's Capital. Though Mussoorie once was considered for summer capital but Shimla was finally choosen.

      @Digu bisht Dehradun was settled by Sikh Guru Ram Rai. He was given this land by Aurangzeb. My ancestors have been living in Dehradun from past 4 generations. They are all buried in Chandar Nagar Kabristan. I probably wont ever return back to Dehradun because the hate is way too high. I hope you are enjoying your stay there, pahadi bhula.

    Amazing Vicky sir you are a walking encyclopedia ....very informative👏👌 people will learn many things about Doon..I do agree that
    Dehradun's ecology has completely changed...sad to see that city of rivulets and canals has turned into a concrete jungle .. Great loss of biodiversity after becoming the capital coz of urbanization and unplanned develooment...All the canals are closed to widen the roads, which has changed the ecology of the city...just hoping that such a podcast will educate people to protect the rich biodiversity of Doon..

    Nice, informative video. I am from Dehradun, but now settled in Bangalore. I come every year to visit my father, and I feel sad every time when I see the concrete structures and dust. I cannot recognize places of my school days (1960s/1970s) anymore. Rather than feel elated, I feel depressed. I can't recognise Lytton Road, Rajpur Road and many places of my youth. I looked for Cheshire home and could not see it anymore. Is it still there? Thankfully, only the cantonment in Young Road (Doon School, Cambrian Hall & RIMC institutions) area has remain untouched, thanks to the army's presence. All the green fields and green cover between Raipur and Adhoiwala gone. Numerous cars zipping through our village of Jorhigaon (above Goochoopani) raising dust and speeding without any care for the residents. Sad!

    Ohri ji , because you are an Anthropologist , I would like to share a very important incident that happened in the history of Dehradun. Our family have been living in Dehradun since more than 7 generations, that is why we know this. After the Gorkhas lost the Anglo-Gorkha war , the area infront of Astley Hall near Rajpur Road, where there is current Gandhi Park, there was a huge ground and in this ground the British burned hundreds of bullock carts of books that were Garhwali, Kumaoni and Nepali literature . This bon fire lasted for more than a week. We local resident know about it.

    • @vaishnavinegi4461
      @vaishnavinegi4461 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, it's completely new information for me and I feel very sad about hearing this.
      But can you tell us why did they burn lots and lots of literature books? I mean it just can't be another "divide and rule" thing. Right?

    • @samirthapa6145
      @samirthapa6145 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vaishnavinegi4461 : I think that they did that to destroy our culture and knowledge and then re-write our history as it suits them. Otherwise what our history says about us would differ from what the British wants us to believe. Britishers have done this in many places and this is their modus operandi.

  • @kdbhandari1767
    @kdbhandari1767 ปีที่แล้ว

    The Britishers never liked the people who are according to them called Gurkhas. One of Guru Gorakhnath's temple is in Gorkha Nepal and the people who worship him are called Gorkhali.
    The Khan ( खाण ) rulers of Gorkha who later became Shah captured other areas and Nepal . NEPAL was the name of Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur which was ruled by three kings ( Malla kings) This happened about 250 years ago during the reign of Maharaj Prithvi Narain Shah. Hence he is considered the person who established Nepal.
    The Britishers wanted to divide Nepal into two parts, Western Nepal and Nepal. Bum Shah who was the Governor of Kumaon first agreed and then stepped out of it. This is what I read in Atkinson's Himalayan Gazetteer.
    After Erecting monuments for themselves and 'Brave Bul Budder' and praising the Gurkhas , the British wanted that the people of Nepal should join its forces. This is exactly what happened.
    However they wanted only uneducated people to serve in their forces. Others were called लाइन छोकरा . a person who has studied , and they were not taken in their forces. It is extremely strange , Nepalese still join the Gurkha Regiments in England although they are paid much less than their British counterparts. In fact Britain is happy that it has a mercenary force to fight for them, while the Indian govts. has always respected and paid the same amount to the persons who join its army. British term Gurkha has been corrected to Gorkha and their is no limitation of study as well.
    However it is strange that the Govt. of Nepal considers banning of the recruitment of Gorkha troops in India.

    Totally the British Narrative presented , British came to India to finish our economy and end the culture of India by introducing foreign religion. Agar itna hi pyaar tha Britishers ko Dehradun se..to itne Churches kyun banaye..why Britishers constructed so many Churches which are so huge... At that time there were handful of Britishers in Dehradun and very less populations of Dehradun..kabhi socha ki itne bade bade Churches banane ke peeche ki wajah kya thi.... " To convert Hindu population of Dehradun in to Christians" .. not only in Dehradun they also build Churches in Mussoorie... My request to the young generation of Dehradun.. Please never ever forget the atrocities and bloodshed that British did to India ... Please do not glorify the British period - do not give pain to the soul of our revolutionaries who gave blood to this soil.... Vande matram..Jai Bharat ..Jai Uttarakhand...

      Dehradun had many white Christians before independence. People like Ruskin Bond and Tom Alter are from Dehradun/Mussorie. Not to mention it was army cantonment area for British, so many British officers lived there.

      @@bigbhasad9974 My brother there were handful of Britishers, and there were soldiers who are particularly not Christians . Then what was the point of making huge number of Churches all around Dehradun and Mussoorie . I am not against your podcast, But i am against the narrative which is propagated throughout India that " British gave us advanced development and vo log bahut acche they ". Please understand British not only destroyed us economically but their future planning was also to finish our culture,religion and our way of living and Dehradun was not exception to the same. census of 1940 shows the population of Rajpur area shows only 2000 families. And very less families in Jakhan as well. Jab inti kam population thi to Itne bade churches banane ka maqsad kya tha... The planning was " If British stayed after 1947 , These churches will be playing important role in blatant conversion of Garhwali,Nepali and kumaoni people , We should thanks " Subhas bose " for declaring war against the queen, and navy revolt took place and thrown out the Britishers .

      @Digu bisht That's a different thing.. Law like Himachal Pradesh never ever implemented in Uttarakhand. In Himachal pradesh only Himachali people can purchase land in Rural areas and in Urban areas some limited land can be purchased, We need special provision like article 371 to safeguard our culture,religion and community. Recently "Christian missionaries" are targeting Uttarakhand to convert them in Christian , These kind of things are happening because " no strict Law" at the centre is there...
