Thanks, Ben and Michael for your clarifications and insights into Trump’s criminal trial. Just can’t understand why his house of cards hasn’t collapsed. Hard to believe that a candidate with his established inappropriate behaviors has a chance of becoming the next resident. So sad for our country.

Oh, his house is collapsing alright: criminal conviction for his company’s tax fraud, civil conviction for his own fraud with a 1/2 billion judgment outstanding, presumed criminal conviction for election interference in 2016 in the current trial, and three other indictments pending, one of which is in state court, supposedly out of Donald’s reach if he should win the election.
The disturbing thing is that there seem to be some powerful people in America that still support Trump because they want to continue his previous policies, principally tax breaks, and I suppose they can still control him somehow, or otherwise benefit. Like others, and perhaps yourself, I fear for the future of our democracy as it is currently constituted if Trump should ascend to the presidency, legally or otherwise.
I feel the same. However, a different perspective helped. Don has been doing crimes for 50 years, and getting away with them. Yet in the last 2 years, he has faced more legal drama than the prior 50 years combined. The House of Cards is already falling! Teflon Don is dead.

After Trump has been so emphatic that he wants to testify I would love it if the judge asks Trump directly if he wants to testify when the defence starts calling witnesses. There is no way that Trump will testifying. On cross examination the prosecutors will tear him apart. Also given his propensity to lie he would almost certainly be charged with perjury. Reconfirm for the jury that Trump was just lying again.
He absolutely will not testify. He never does!
Judge did that first thing in front of the jury the next court day.

He pled the 5th over 500 times during depositions (not sure if this was just depositions for this case or if it includes others). That's after telling the world only the guilty do that. There's no way he takes the stand only to repeat that performance or get caught perjuring himself.

It’s, worth pointing out that Michael Cohen went to prison in part because the prosecutors wanted to bring his wife into the case. Michael Cohen being the man he is, said no, I would rather go to prison and protected my wife and children, because he cared about his family. A thought about Michael Cohen: the jury has heard and the trump team have portrayed Cohen as a very disgusting immoral and abrasive type personality and he was once, but over the past few years I've seen a real transformation in Michael and I think his presence on the stand will be received positively by the jury. Was the reason Hope Hicks cried on the stand, because the tall story that anything was to protect Melania, was in fact her own guilt towards Melania. Michael Cohen being the man he is, said no, I would rather go to prison and protected my wife and children, because he cared about his family.
