Love your honesty and I appreciate the well balanced chemistry between the two of you. Nobody's overpowering the other. Keepin it real! Looking forward to more vids. xx
+ThePatchouliRose That's a lovely observation. Somehow we've spent 24/7 together for the last two years with not more than a week in total apart and we still like each other. Pretty rad really. Thanks for all the comments. :)
+Pure Living for Life been reading the blog and watching Ur videos, truly insperational👍 I wish you both the very best for this new year! Thanks for the entertainment and ideas, keep up the great work again thanks👏
Having a trailer to start living off grid is great. When I first went off grid I had a poorly insulated shed to live in. I had to carry everything out to the cabin thru 300 yards of swamp. I had to heat water on the wood stove to bath. 5 years later I have a road in and my cabin has full hot and cold running water from a well and an indoor toilet. I even have a washer and dryer. It's as comfortable as any house in the city. The point here is if your serious about going off grid then make what ever sacrifice needed to get the job done. I have many friends with grandiose plans on paper. These plans will never leave the paper because the arn''t willing to give up city comforts.
Alisha--I have to comment, it is so refreshing to see a young wife who is respecting and loving her husband, and is admittedly working as a partner together on something that doesn't baby you... so many wives seem to want to have their spouses spoil them etc. I admire you for being willing to do hard things and work together for a long term goal! (and you are an adorable couple!)
Glad I found your channel! We're doing the exact same thing up in Canada, but with 4 kids. Nice to know that there are others that are crazy enough to do what it takes to live the dream while living within your means. Keep up the great work! Cheers!
Hey Guys I've been enjoying your videos. My wife and I have been talking about leaving Florida and living off the grid on our 5 acre property in South Dakota. A lot of what your doing is what we have been talking about doing. Thanks for the videos and updates!!!!
The trailer would make a great guest house if friends or family come over LOL. That's what mine has been used for the past few years. It needs new tires and batteries, but it still works fine for a spare bedroom basically.
You guys are smart young people that actually think out what you are going to do. What really is unique is that you both agree on the underlying fundamental way you want to live. It's not easy when when your partner doesn't really want the same things you do. Because of this you will do good. As for me, I started off good but got a hateful job that I worked at for 30 years. That's what happens when you don't think things through. I have a channel of my new life. Hopefully I confined contentment at my old age.
It's incredible that we found your channel! Your information, insight and experience is invaluable to us! We are probably about 3 years behind you, but are selling most everything, buying an RV and moving our family of 5 cross country to also live as off grid as possible. We are even going to document as much as we can on our TH-cam channel. You guys are great. So thankful we can learn from you!
I LOVE the fact you both are articulate, no ummmm ing and pregnant pauses while trying to think what to say next. That drives me NUTZ about watching many TH-cam videos. You're a breath of fresh air and I for one appreciate it. I am particularly interested in your water supply videos, as storage in desert locales is on my mind. The only water you get is from catchment systems, and you have to make use of every drop you capture. It's surprising how much water falls EVEN in the desert. And many thousands of folks rely on catchment systems completely. BUT. One must collect and store water for those times when drought rears its ugly head. And it goes without saying conservation is a full time job. Storage though is a common need regardless of locale if off grid. Likely more important where the rain is infrequent and uncertain.
Great job. I bought a used 27' Travel Trailer in great shape for $3800 (Was a 2001 version, no tip outs, etc).. Using it while I build my house "Up North". Everything works, shower, toilet, refrigerator, stove, microwave, etc... You guys are on the right track - you'll be living debtfree and stressfree before too long. Screw the BS of working for "the man".... your analogy of having a new car and car payment to go to work to pay for the new car - was perfect.
I've been watching most of your videos and admire what you are doing in the building of your home. I'm totally agreeing with you guys about the debt thing re: nice cars, clothes, etc... It's not worth it. I got a '08 nice van that suited our purposes for my late wife who was wheelchair bound. I got tired of having rundown vans that didn't last very long 5 or 6 total. People who congratulate you guys on getting a nice car, house, whatever are obsessed with THINGS that this world has to offer instead of what really matters in a person's life. Watching you guys milling the wood from scratch is quite a fun experience. I've always enjoyed this type of action. Can't wait to see more. The last one I saw was the rafters/eves screwed into place. Timber Framing is one of the best and more secure way to build in my opinion.
Bc I'm a very sporadic web surfer I seem to be a Johnny come lately. Anyway, I've watched a couple of your videos. I find myself admiring the two of you. Thanks for sharing your experiences.
I've just discovered your journey! You two are comical. I feel like I'm watching and hearing my future plans. Kudos to the both of you! I've been planning my own off grid site in Montana. Keep it going and good luck.
WOW ! what an absolutely fantastic video! You guys did an absolutely excellent job explaining everything so clearly! I love how you guys did not interrupt or cut one another off while speaking. also helps that the girl is super attractive and intelligent and everything she said was answering every question that I actually had. awesome job kids! hopefully after you made this video the land closed which I'm sure it did because you have excellent energy. yes taking his shoes off is always important.
Great Video! The old couple really wanted the trailer to go to a good home and they just didn't want to give it away. I bought an old class A diamond in the rough from craigs list, no one seemed to want it but what a great buy I got and now everyone wants to buy it. 1989 was a great year! Thanks!
I just bought a new travel trailer and I plan to buy some land and live in it. Watching your videos have given me some good insights to living off guide etc thank you.
you guys are awesome! both of y'all are so witty and endearing especially in front of the camera! I love seeing your videos and your thought process! I'm pulling for you guys!
I started watching your videos when you poured concrete for the walls on your house, and realized I needed to go back and get some story behind your journey. This is good.
I enjoyed your video. My wife and I are contemplating a camper so that was great information. I would never buy a new camper because they are just too costly and depreciate quickly. I think you two have so many interest in common and are a great match. Best of luck for a long happy life together.
Hi , new here , we have no mortgage , no new car , just utilities , and couldn't be happier, we do have dogs , cat ,bees and chickens , there a must , lol , good luck .
I went through the car thing recently. I man ran a red and demolished my 25 year old Accord I had for 12 years and was formerly my grandmothers. It was in immaculate condition and I absolutely loved it. But my beloved accord was demolished and had to purchase a "new" one. I bought a really nice newer used Accord in cash. I was stunned at how many people congratulated me for the newer car and felt very much the same as you. My lifestyle is very similar to yours and I share many of the same views. It's been nice following you and your journey as there aren't too many people out there with the same mindset.
Yep...I was a weekend builder with a small trailer. After the house framing was "under roof" , I finished one bedroom in its entirety, after electric was installed but before plumbing and all the other stuff. The trailer was used for cooking and guest helpers only. One quartz heater would keep the bedroom warm in the dead of winter.
Thank you for sharing I have been following you for a short while and have learned what it will take for me and my wife and kids live like this. its a wake-up call to be sure but glad you brought this to life to help people like us understand what we need to make it happen.
+Andrew Esposito HAHAHA no it did not! If it did, it may have lowered the value of the trailer because nobody wants to buy a trailer that spent a lot of time rockin' if you know what I mean...
It's fun listening to this video where in it you were talking about possibly only being in it 1 year. We just passed the 2 year mark. It does show though like you keep saying that "plans have to be fluid so make sure your making good decisions as you go".
Glad you found our channel as well! If you haven't already, feel free to check out our blog as well! We are a few weeks behind on posting but trying to document all aspects of our journey as thoroughly as possible :)
Just came across y'alls channel. You two are so inspirational! My husband and I are working on our debt right now and hopefully we will be debt free before he gets out of the military.
nice trailer ! I like your plan. My wife and I moved off-grid 15 yrs ago, it was a good move, we do well since everything we own is paid for now. Our only bill is the cell phones, property tax. Good luck on your adventure!
You guys so are great. I think this kind of living is the way forward. Many of you are trail blazers and people will start catching on. I've never been impressed by people's stuff, ever. We love to travel so we keep our home base simple, but not off grid. ;)
My husband and I are in the process of transitioning from living in a room in a home to living in a travel trailer, and moving around the country. We are scared to take the leap but we want it so bad and your videos are super helpful! Subscribed +
+Pure Living for Life Great video, very interesting, but one thing I don't understand is why did they sell it so cheap if it is worth $7000? Especially as they weren't in a hurry and you said the trailers were going super fast.
yeah we were living in an rv, which we were lucky to get one at a good price and a hard to find layout, but when you need one now, there's nothing but crap. well because of a flood we lost it, our first tiny house which only was, so far only framed and most of our stuff. so now we are living in a shed I originally built for my tools while we build a tiny house on the frame from the rv, along with 5 cats and a dog, what fun you would thing its way too small, but its not bad.....
My wife & I bought a trailer to go 'glamping.' One imperative criteria we had to have was a walk-around queen bed (which we did end up with). As you no doubt have already learned, with a transverse bed, whoever gets the outboard side, loses. Best of luck!
Not sure why people dislike the video, probably same reason people comment how your wife is beautiful. There is no need for stupidity. Nice job on the videos. I found myself watching 5 In a row after I found the first one searching on solar systems. Thanks for sharing with us.
If some one want to be comfortable or successful that's the way they have to think and act, that's exactly the way I think and talk , fairness and honesty are one of the main ingredient of successful an peaceful life.
I just found your channel about 4 months ago, and am enjoying it. I did go back and watch some of your first ones. This one kind of cracked me up, as you were hoping to only need the trailer about 6 months or so..... two years later, and I think you are still living in it. haha Good thing you guys get along really well! :)
I am sure I am not the first, but I will take it off your hands when you want to sell. We are also looking at building on our land but our timetable is a couple of years with kids in college. I really enjoy your pioneer spirit and teamwork. Thank you for sharing your life experiences and for keeping the entrepreneur spirit alive!
having seen the lam beams get fixed in place ... and now seeing this old video .... it is really quiet interresting to see how much both have changed from this video to present day .... btw the trailer is still an asset after the build ... now you can go camping too and have a home that has been adjusted to your style of living ;)
Just found you guys from a comment that Cody made on Wranglerstar about you guys...Loving the videos that I've seen so far and I really like and appreciate the realness of them! I am also really digging that your trailer is called the Fun Finder!! LOL
Hubby and I have a question for you. What set you on this path? Did something happen in your lives that (for lack of a better term) "woke you all up?" We have thoroughly enjoyed watching your videos!!!! We have our own "homestead" but we're attached to the power grid. I might start doing videos like you all do, but for now I write.
Tamara Bell can't answer for them but for me it was a few things one I grew up off grid two city life didn't suet me and third I missed being out there so I finally did it and I'm off grid with power due to my solar panels
Modifying a Cargo Trailer can alleviate most of the problems you ran into and as the space spills out into the surrounding area with tents it won't feel so small.
God was on your side for sure! $2500 hundred I would buy it. Good looking trailer. I lived in a camper van ( stealth van) for 4 yrs. Wish I had stripped out fridge / stove/ furnace and all the other goodies I had in her. I bought her for $500! You got a super deal from super nice people!
hi just found these videos their great, it's good to see you start from scratch with great project watched 6straight off.have subscribed now I'm a lot behind but looking forward to follow your adventures.from West Wales UK
I feel your pain! I am on a similar journey. In fact looking at Idaho as one of my states of interest. I picked up a 1978 airstream trailer, ripped out the interior and remodeled it. Well still remodeling it haha. Took on quite a project but it's looking great. Posted a message on your website as well. Enjoy your journey!
LOL!! Posting that pic of him putting a rainfly on a tent while talking down about tent camping made it look like the tent was on fire for a second! HAHA!
Was that the night we put the tent on top of the sprinkler which then came on under our tent in the middle of the night? That was an awesome night. Haha!
wow I hope I get a deal like that. I'm planning on buying a trailer to live in so I can set up shop in my house, do some drastic renovations and sell it. you guys really did get lucky. I hate selling but love buying stuff I give nice things away all the time. If I had the money I'd be like those sellers. just take it so I can move on.
well, as for expenses -you get what you pay for. and w/ rent $ there idnt anything to show for at the end o the month, course if 1 looks around they can get a real good deal. ive considered parking a trailer on land myself & wld enjoy long-term camping!!
BTW, we lived in a 5th wheel (a very nice 36ft one) for 4 years. This is how we saved $ to pay cash for our first home. My daughter and I also lived off grid for 4 years JUST TO SEE IF WE COULD DO IT. ;-)
somehow missed this post , enjoyed watching it and how things fell into place just as ye were having no luck finding a trailer , we had been looking online for a small farm in Latvia for nearly a year and just a week before we headed there on holidays in 2015 we found a too good to be true property an 8 Acre farm for 5 and a half thousand euro , well to cut a long story short we bought it and will be moving there in a couple of years , and the best thing is its only two miles from the small town my partner comes from . just opened our you tube channel today with some photos if ye want to take a look , keep up the posts very inspiring for us to see how ye are doing ...............Harry
Perhaps I should have done a video but when I did my house no TH-cam. We built a 6000 sq ft monolithic 5 bedroom dome with 35' ceilings. The 2400 sqft attached dome with a 15' breezeway has 17' ceilings. So for the build what we did was poured the foundation in 10 days, Inflated the form, sprayed the 4" of polyurethane insulation, and the 5" of concrete in 9 more days (with the help of a 9 man crew). Then we installed air conditioning, heating and lights in the garage , and one of the downstairs bathrooms, in 2 more days. Setup 5 dome tents (bedrooms for myself and three sons, and one guestroom) in the garage where we lived for the next year and a half finishing the interior of the house. So, only three weeks in the motorhome on site before we moved in. Then we did the most of rest of the work ourselves in air conditioned comfort on our 62 acres in South Texas.
Interesting how some stereotypes prove to be true. Meaning: Jessie spoke of the trailer's functions and Alisa spoke of the trailer's amenities. You guys are great.
If you can build barn or garage 1st. There easier to build, there great for storage including storing lumber for your house. In the long run. be much easier. Building home first you'll run out of places to keep your tools. And you'll find yourself having to move thing twice.Good luck
My little trailer I'm living in on my land is laid out almost identical to yours. I went into town to get a bite with a friend, and the previous owners were unhooking from it putting it up for sale on the highway. I stopped and talked to them. Looked at the trailer, went to the bank and withdrew the cash money and took my trailer home. I've been living in it on my land for 4 years now. Holding off on building a house till my land is laid off.
$2500? That's the deal of the century, You will make money on it when you sell it in a year. Could'nt really tell, is there damage on the front on the driver side. Is it de lamination of the fiberglass wall?
It's delaminating on the front and the back as well. While that is a fairly common issue, it also has a water damaged roof. I'd say they still got a great deal though. He said somewhere that this model and year sells used for around $15k. That isn't my experience at all. I'd say more like $7500 and with that damage, maybe $5,000. So they still got a massive deal.
My wife turned me onto your video blog if that's what it's called. We did the same thing twice with trailers as we are building our house. Our first one was $350.00 and then we sold it for the same as we purchased it for after using it for a year or so and then we purchased one for $3,500.00 and think we can get that price out of it when we sell it this summer but we didn't take care of it all that well. If I had to do it all over again, we both agree that a shed would have been better to live due to the thin insulation and condensation that forms inside the trailer. We purchased our land debt free that came with a water well, septic tank and leach field and a rotted 5,342 sq ft geodesic dome home that was never finished.
How funny, pretty awesome. We are on the exact same path...Crazy on finding RV/Trailers etc...But noticed your CL that you were looking at was Shady Cove, Eagle Point...I went to EP High School 86...Grew up there and Shady Cove...Would be nice to talk with you guys as we are looking to do exactly what you guys are doing....Dig your vids...
It's a good thing you had that trailer covered. The delamination on the unit makes it almost worthless on trade-in, and it's likely had water in where water doesn't belong. Serious question: What did you get for it when you sold it on Craiglist (if you have already)? (And I love this series--doing something similar, but even more slowly. :)
Love your honesty and I appreciate the well balanced chemistry between the two of you. Nobody's overpowering the other. Keepin it real! Looking forward to more vids. xx

When you buy the trailer, you keep it in decent shape ,then sell it when your done. You never get your money back for an apartment.
+Steven Hardy Exactly, that is our plan exactly! Plus we be able to sell it for more than we bought it for :-)

+David D Welcome, hope you enjoy our videos!
Buddy, you sir have an absolute trooper for a wife. This is an amazing story!
well done to both of you, never give up is your message.
I know this video was shot a while ago, but I want to congratulate you on your decision, the world is really the right way up for you both.
Nice find. I always move quickly on Craigslist because I have also found that things don't last long.
I've lived in my RV it's ok. Bonus you get a guest house!
Even if you end up building a house the trailer can be used as a guest cabin and if you want to travel you have the ability to.
+Scott Foster Totally!
+Pure Living for Life Great video, very interesting, but one thing I don't understand is why did they sell it so cheap if it is worth $7000? Especially as they weren't in a hurry and you said the trailers were going super fast.

My wife & I bought a trailer to go 'glamping.' One imperative criteria we had to have was a walk-around queen bed (which we did end up with). As you no doubt have already learned, with a transverse bed, whoever gets the outboard side, loses. Best of luck!
WOW $2500 is a great deal. Congrats on a smart decision
Well I think you made a great deal and the trailer looks very nice. Looks easy to pull as well. Congrats!
I just found your channel about 4 months ago, and am enjoying it. I did go back and watch some of your first ones. This one kind of cracked me up, as you were hoping to only need the trailer about 6 months or so..... two years later, and I think you are still living in it. haha Good thing you guys get along really well! :)
We love you guys! God bless!
great deal! You could keep it for camping trips to! We have so many areas that are great for camp trailers to! After your house is built!
Great video, I'm planning on doing the same thing. I am also a PNW person and love this area. Have a great day
I am sure I am not the first, but I will take it off your hands when you want to sell. We are also looking at building on our land but our timetable is a couple of years with kids in college. I really enjoy your pioneer spirit and teamwork. Thank you for sharing your life experiences and for keeping the entrepreneur spirit alive!
cool trailer. also, love those old ford trucks. take care of that truck and you can give it to your grand kids.
MADDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD THROWBACKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK LOVE YOU GUYS
Thanks for sharing guys. I follow other homestead channels, yes it's a lot of work, but at the end of the day, you own it. God bless your efforts.
+Dana Nelson Totally true Dana! Thanks for watching!
having seen the lam beams get fixed in place ... and now seeing this old video .... it is really quiet interresting to see how much both have changed from this video to present day .... btw the trailer is still an asset after the build ... now you can go camping too and have a home that has been adjusted to your style of living ;)
$2,500!?!?!?!? INSANE!!! Way to go! So jealous! God Bless!
You guys are an inspiration. Love the vids, so much so I turned off my ad blocker. Good luck guys and keep up the vids.
Just found you guys from a comment that Cody made on Wranglerstar about you guys...Loving the videos that I've seen so far and I really like and appreciate the realness of them! I am also really digging that your trailer is called the Fun Finder!! LOL
Thanks for the awesome blog.
You did well for yourselves, good luck
New subscriber, playing catch up on all your vids. Love what you guys are doing so far.
+iMatt65 Welcome aboard! Party on! Drinks are on the house! Haha.
Love seeing other living the free life. I started in a tent and would do it all again.
Quick question, im sure others have asked, what do you do to fund your projects? Do you both have full time jobs? If so what do you do?
You got a super deal from super nice people!
hi just found these videos their great, it's good to see you start from scratch with great project watched 6straight off.have subscribed now I'm a lot behind but looking forward to follow your adventures.from West Wales UK
yeah probably going to do something similar live in a small trailer on my land then build my little house good vid
Godspeed.
u guys are awesome people
thanks for the education and experience
I feel your pain! I am on a similar journey. In fact looking at Idaho as one of my states of interest. I picked up a 1978 airstream trailer, ripped out the interior and remodeled it. Well still remodeling it haha. Took on quite a project but it's looking great. Posted a message on your website as well. Enjoy your journey!
When I Built Our House we Stayed in a 12x16 Shed I Built Several Yrs. Before.........Pretty Fancy Camp You Got..............
If I had the money I'd be like those sellers. just take it so I can move on.
trailer life is awesome..
well, as for expenses -you get what you pay for. and w/ rent $ there idnt anything to show for at the end o the month, course if 1 looks around they can get a real good deal. ive considered parking a trailer on land myself & wld enjoy long-term camping!!
Sean Newhouse it would be like playing army!
I've been watching your vids. I'm a big fan now.
Following your videos.thank you for sharing.
If you can build barn or garage 1st. There easier to build, there great for storage including storing lumber for your house. In the long run. be much easier. Building home first you'll run out of places to keep your tools.
And you'll find yourself having to move thing twice.Good luck
Could you share with us how much land you bought and how much it costs?
Out here in San Diego just a spot to park an RV can run $600 to $900 a month!
Alyssa, Yall are Nutts. too funny. Entertaining and Informative.
Nice score on the trailer! You stole it, you lucky dogs!
So they still got a massive deal.
preplanning! YES
$500 a month for rent?? That'd be a dream here.....
Rent for an apartment is about twice that where I live. :(
My wife turned me onto your video blog if that's what it's called.
