- I make videos I would want to see and try to provide information I wish I had known, so I hope this helps.
If you've been wondering which one is for you, this video should provide you with some information to aid in making an informed decision.
From my experience, if you are a novice and shy to working on your RC, stick with the 12428; It's easier to work on, has available replacement parts and is less expensive.
I had my 12428 for nearly 2 years before something broke and it was my servo that went out. The next thing to go was my motor, followed by the transmitter, and despite my best efforts, I was unable to repair it.
instead to buying a replacement transmitter I decided to upgrade the electronics from the 5 wire to the more common and available 3 wire system, using a Hobbywing 1080, Axial 35 Turn motor, Spektrum A500 servo with the DumboRC Transmitter and Reciever.
Total cost was under $200 US 🇺🇸 for the RC and Upgraded parts
When I purchased my 10428, I was excited and quickly frustrated. straight out of the box, I had issues. First the shift servo went out and then the gears stripped. I was really disappointed in it after having such a good experience with the 12428.
While it's been a learning experience working on, repairing and upgrading them I wasn't expecting it so soon into owning them.
If cleaning & repairing aren't your thing, I would suggest another hobby. We used RC as a learning tool for Homeschooling which is fun and educational.

dam unordered the wrong model for my son can I fit the gear shifter into the smaller car
10428 I think I had motor over heat is this possible? It just shut off had power but would go. I turn it off let it sit it would start working again for a couple mins then stop. So a month or two later I finally order a new motor and go to check it out and it ran for awhile without shutting off although I didn’t run it hard or longer then 10 mins but again before it would shut down after a minute. Any thoughts?
Mine was 10428a n the shifting gear servo is jammed,so it's oftenly got stuck in the neutral gear,i have to push/pull it manually,its hard to find the servo,any suggest?thx
Are you using stock electronics? If so you'll need a 5 wire replacement. If you have updated electronics, a Spektrum A509 can be used as a shifting servo.

Pairing was simple, I followed the directions. It's been awhile and I don't remember off hand. If you haven't figured it out already drop me message and I'll look into it.
@@backyardbashers7212 In the original buggy 12427 is reciever with esc in one box, if I understand it correctly, and for next the steer servo has 5 pin connector, real good video from dissambly to complet install X6FG will be good for me and others people. Can you do please any video? step by step...
@@jbml3642Yes, it's an all in one. Which means you need a new ESC and the appropriate receiver for your remote. For longevity I would suggest transitioning from the proprietary 5 pin to a more universal 3 pin.
Don't get me wrong this RC is great out of the box and lots of fun, though once things break the options for replacement electrical parts are limited to the 5 pin which I've never found in any hobby shop.
While you can find them at places like Banggood & AliExpress you deal with long shipping times and difficulty in returns or refunds in my experience. (I waited 3 months for a part and when it came it wasn't what I thought I purchased)
A replacement for the 1:12 scale steering servo is limited without modification to the chassis from what I've seen.
Currently both my 10428 and 12428 are on a shelf due to issues and having other to use, and a busy schedule I haven't bothered in getting them back up and running to due to the difficulty of finding the parts.
Which one is faster out the box ?
Probably the 12428, but not by much and the 12428 is also half the price with less things to go wrong. The down side is being a 1:12 getting upgraded parts that fit can be a challenge.
Which one is better?
I've had more issues with the 10428. I've also fully upgraded the 12428 with new electronics and motor.
Can you speedrun it with proper brushless? in 3s?
You would need an ESC which is Brushless capable. I don't believe the HW 1080 is capable. Though they have a Fusion, which is an ESC/Motor combination that has great reviews.
These are project cars for my daughter to learn and have fun with.

1/10 car just look for parts of the Vaterra Twin Hammers. The Vaterra is the original car. Wltoys made a rebranding of it.
