Now that's what I call a professional clean job. I will be more than happy to show that trunk. at any classic car show you really went all out here, Jonathan, this came out beautiful.
Thanks buddy. And it’s much easier and looks Better then using just the rattle can splatter paint. I used to do them that way in the past I like this technique much morne
Love the touch at the end. This is on my “to do” list for the 67. Previous owner mounted coil-overs in addition to the leaf springs and pitched them so far forward they made some nasty holes between the rear seat and the pan I need to patch up first. I’m a lot like you, I don’t care about making it all original matching, but I know what wrong looks like so I ripped them out and went with multi-leaf springs and QA-1 shocks mounted in the correct place.
It disappointing when someone jacks up a car when it could have been done nice. I am good with mods but Clean and simple is my style. I learned with the splatter paint you are better off painting the entire floor with grey or black first then misting on the floor paint. It covers better and you use less cans.
Was a vinyl top car and the plan is to keep the look. Looks like I’m going to dig in deep so I’m building a custom frame jig. Its not horrible but it was a Michigan car so I’m expecting to help AMD meet its 3rd quarter goals 😆😆😆
I like the splatter finished trunk. In 79 they just painted the trunk satin black and gave you a really cheap piece of black indoor/outdoor looking carpet over it.
I like your approach to this facet of the resto- epoxy first, etc. And the rubbing alcohol? Wow, that could save some prep costs. Incidentally, Eastwood sells a trunk spatter paint to be used like you did. I don’t know if they have changed their formula, but I found out the hard way that it was water soluble! I ended up having to touch up a few areas in my Chevelle trunk and then applied a satin clear coat.
Great Episode! Turned out excellent. Nice execution for sure. I just finished my trunk restore on my channel and ended up using two cans of the same Delco paint.
I "detailed " my trunk with rattle cans, using the splatter paint. I'm happy with the result, but it sure would have been easier doing it your way! Thanks for another great video!
The splatter paint is the way To go. I tried in the past using only the rattle cans over primer and I felt it just didn’t cover as well and went thru several cans. This way I only used one and love the results
Thanks. The top is yet another mystery. The new one fits better but the piece below the rear window is not attached at all so I would have to make my own seams not sure if that is better or not yet.
Thanks! This was actually a bit of an experiential idea painting the trunk a solid black first as a base and it worked great plus used way less splatter paint and looks much more even
looks great Jon! I used an OER product which is water base purchased from Classic Industries that worked really well for me but what you did here is awesome! thanks for sharing. Any news on the vinyl top snafu?
Is that AC Delco speckle paint durable? I thought I heard its water based and should be covered with clear in order to hold up well. In any case it looks super nice.
Not really. I have yet to find any that is durable on its own. That is Why I used it as a bit of color and contrast not as my base as well. If using the rattle can only I have had all kinds of issues with bonding and durability. When you spray it on the base while it is still a little tacky it really holds up decent and no clear required
I want to sell everything and come be your apprentice. How do you stay organized? Do you have some master checklist or is it just chassis, engine, body, paint, trim?
That could be fun! I have a plan and it’s in my head crazy enough. I need to write it down or like i have been doing sharing it on TH-cam it kinda documents the Build. There is a method to the madness I try to not make unnecessary moves like jack the car up fix one thing let it down the lift it again and keep doing that. I try to take care of everything I can then let it down is my mindset. It is more efficient. I jacked the car up to paint it. I placed the stands under the car with the suspension compressed so i can also tighten all the suspension bolts like your supposed to with the weight on the control arms. I have done this a few times so I have got it down pretty good now. Thanks for watching and commenting it helps me out. Much appreciated
WA3867 is the code I used and the Sherwin Williams paint guy was able to mix it for me. Very very close to the original paint that was on the inside of the trunk lid. The metallic flake size is a little different
Now that's what I call a professional clean job. I will be more than happy to show that trunk. at any classic car show you really went all out here, Jonathan, this came out beautiful.
Spraying the base
Black is the part
That made this work nice and hardly used one can of splatter paint to finish it too
Great video, you made it look so easy! Thanks
You're welcome!
Wow. That looks sick! Thanks man. Now I'll go do mine.
Perfect! Just decide gray or black for your base first then the rest is the same.
Trunk turned out great! It would be hard not to think it was original looking.
Thanks buddy. And it’s much easier and looks Better then using just the rattle can splatter paint. I used to do them that way in the past I like this technique much morne
John for President! Looks great. Come do mine next.
President Forehan sure sounds good to me
Lookin' good.
thanks!
That turned out fantastic! You have done an excellent job on this car. I have learned alot. Thank you for sharing the journey.
Thanks buddy! Having the TH-cams as a resource to share has been great, only wish i had it years ago too.
Love your works john!
Thanks. I really enjoy putting these cars back together
I love the splatter paint look. That’s the nicest job I’ve ever seen.
I really feel using a solid base grey or black makes all the difference when painting a trunk like this.
The trunk finish is just as important to me! Another great job John.
Yup. It’s just one more thing to show this car is done up well.
That looks great.... I may do that to my old car!
Right on! Spraying the trunk floor a base solid color first makes the splatter paint work much better
Funny that this weekends project on my Bird!! Another awesome video buddy!!
Heck yeah! Best tip is paint the entire floor with grey or black then use the splatter paint. It just seems to cover better.
Super job , that thing looks better than day one in 68
thank you, it very well could be better then new now
Great video!
Thanks!
Owned a 68, a 400 car, this car sure brings back memories!! Just an outstanding job!!
Those are some Nice memories I bet, especially a 400 car.

I’m doing a 68 Camaro build and I find your vids very helpful 👍
Awesome! Good luck on your build

@@greasemonkey1880 lol. I should have bought stock in AMD before my last two cars I built.
I like the splatter finished trunk. In 79 they just painted the trunk satin black and gave you a really cheap piece of black indoor/outdoor looking carpet over it.
Sounds about right. Cheaper and quicker to produce I suppose. It’s your car splatter paint might look good on your car

I have seen a few places offering trunk spatter paint now. I might experiment with some in the future. I have yet to find any that are very durable.
Great Episode! Turned out excellent. Nice execution for sure. I just finished my trunk restore on my channel and ended up using two cans of the same Delco paint.
Very cool! I will check it out.
Really nice Jon !
You’re keeping me going !!
Fantastic news! Glad to keep the motivation going. It’s why I watched shows like overhaulin years ago.
Wow! amazing attention to detail!
I think kit makes all the difference
Looking awesome! Im light years years away from this on my 71 camaro, but ill get there
Heck yeah you can do it. Even if it’s only a few hours a week it’s progress.
wow wow...hard to believe you are in a such a small space!
Proof it can be done with limited space and tools but still have nice results
Fine job as always. Cheers Bud!
Thanks buddy. Getting close to end for this car.
Ta da haha it looks awesome 💪😎
I agree.
Great info on how to finish a trunk. I didn't know about the rattle can paint, nice touch.
Spray can stuff does good but there is also a sprayable type also. I might try it on the next build
Great Work Again...
Thanks a lot 😊
Looking great
Thank you and this is an easy mod that could be done in an afternoon
Very good i have to do the same 🔥🙋🏽🙋🏽
Right on.
Amazing John!!👍🏽
Thanks! Now I can start putting on the shinny chrome bits!
Not original, but much gooder Jon! Keep up the great work!
Thanks buddy. Doing it this way it’s also fairly durable without clear coat.
I "detailed " my trunk with rattle cans, using the splatter paint. I'm happy with the result, but it sure would have been easier doing it your way!

To go. I tried in the past using only the rattle cans over primer and I felt it just didn’t cover as well and went thru several cans. This way I only used one and love the results
Great job explaining the process! Did you figure out anything on the vinyl top?
Thanks. The top is yet another mystery. The new one fits better but the piece below the rear window is not attached at all so I would have to make my own seams not sure if that is better or not yet.
That looks really nice. Would a sound deadening paint be worth trying for the black? I don’t know if it would help with sound or not. Just wondering.
The paint would work as a base Not sure how it would look might be worth doing some experimenting with.
Nice job ! Hopefully no overspray on the fresh paint .I’m thinking u did this before the cut as buff😊JR 🇨🇦
I have a different top from Ames it had its challenges as well but I think I will attempt it first
@@VinylVillageGarage awesome! hope you can do a video on the vinyl top.

What is the colour code on that bird
WA3867 is the code I used and the Sherwin Williams paint guy was able to mix it for me. Very very close to the original paint that was on the inside of the trunk lid. The metallic flake size is a little different
Junk. Junk is in the trunk. Sorry, someone had to say it. 🤭
🤣🤣 thanks
