In this video, we take an exciting first step in exploring whether my Belgian Shepherd (Belgian Groenendael) has the potential to become a service dog. Join us as we meet a professional dog trainer and certifier who evaluates my dog’s eligibility and discusses the training required for service and assistance work. In Australia, the word Assistance dog is synonymous with Service dog.
Belgian Shepherds, also known as Belgian Groenendaels or Belgian Sheepdogs, are known for their intelligence, loyalty, and adaptability-qualities that make them excellent candidates for service dog training. During this assessment, the trainer examines key traits like temperament, trainability, and social behavior to determine if my Belgian Shepherd is ready to start the journey toward becoming an assistance dog.
If you’ve ever wondered whether your dog has what it takes to become a service dog, this video offers valuable insights into the evaluation process, the specific training needed, and the qualities trainers look for in a service dog candidate.
Whether you’re a Belgian Shepherd owner, considering adopting this incredible breed, or simply love learning about dogs, this video is for you! Stay tuned for updates in this service dog training journey.

Discover what it’s like to own a Belgian Shepherd! Explore what life is like with Jack Flash, a black shepherd variety also called a Groenendael or Belgian sheepdog.
    Worldwide, they are known as:
    1. English: Belgian Sheepdog or Belgian Shepherd variety Groenendael
    2. French: Chien de Berger Belge
    3. Dutch: Belgische Herdershond
    4. German: Belgischer Schäferhund
    5. Spanish: Pastor Belga
    6. Italian: Pastore Belga
    7. Belgian: Groenendaeler
From the time we adopted him as a teenage pup, Jack Flash has been a wonderful dog. We share all the things we have discovered about the breed since we adopted him. We train him using completely force-free methods. 🐾 This is also our first dog.
Think you want a Belgian Shepherd? Watch what we have gone through and see if it’s a good match for you too! 🐕‍🦺 Warning: They do love their exercise. If you don’t exercise, I advise do NOT get this breed. Having a large yard does not constitute as exercise as these dogs will not exercise themselves.

How to use positive reinforcement and force-free techniques
    Other Tips
There are 4 varieties of Belgian shepherds, The 4 varieties are the very popular Belgian Malinois, Tervuren, Groenendael and Laekenois. Athletically they are all similar, but vary in coat, temperament and drive, and also between working and show lines.
This is not a strict dog training channel. It’s more a “Adventures of Jack” channel, but it does include training elements that I learn and teach along the way. I am not a professional dog trainer.
We try and release multiple shorts per week for entertainment and education. In turn help us grow by subscribing. If you have any ideas/comments on what you want to see with my Belgian Shepherd, leave a comment and I will try and create it.
This channel is solely for the purpose of trying to raise money for my dogs Cryptorchidism (his testicles did not drop) so he needs a procedure to have his testicles removed internally which is very expensive here. Apparently, they can become cancerous if not removed.
    Love your 🐕‍🦺

It sounded like she was calling him Flash. Is his full name Jumpin Jack Flash? 😀

FYI - I never take my SD on escalators unless I have to do so. I use the elevator.

Yes, I found out later than if there are no elevators, I am to pick Jack up at an escalator. So it's not part of the training at all as they can get a serious injury if their claw gets caught in the escalator. I guess in other countries the safety aspect ts not an issue for a dog to use an escalator.

Getting snappy at someone touching him can get him banned from the stores because it will be considered aggression - People aren't supposed to pet them but people, and kids especially, will.

He doesn't bite, and being snappy as a warning he doesn't want to be touched isn't even a criteria here as a assistant dog the assessor told me.

Can anybody just have a working dog so they can take them wherever they go ? I would love that

You need to have a disability of some type. In this country at least.

    • @genna09
      @genna09 หลายเดือนก่อน

You have to have a life debilitating disability that the dog is trained in one or more tasks to mitigate. Otherwise your dog does not have public access rights and it’s not legal to take the dog in to non pet friendly places. Not just any working dog has public access rights, just assistance dogs/service dogs (depending on where you live) because they are needed to provide those tasks that help mitigate the handler’s disability.

@@genna09 perhaps an organ transplant can be a disability? Because then it would be possible for me at least
