That buncher is a hell of a machine!! That's the way to go for the most part now days. Pretty decent wood!! Small landings seem to always happen. Hope all is well. Stay safe my friend!!
ya like most stuff the faster you can put up a load the more money you can make plus it is safer cutting the dead ash

I'm pretty impressed with the buncher head. I wouldn't mind having one to fell the trees ahead of my harvester. It would be nice if it had even a 25 degree tilt left and right for the uneven ground. It's a quiet a bit stronger than I thought it would be.
It makes it safer for felling than doing it by hand. But I bet it kind stinks for you when you have to top them with more than a couple trees in a bunch.

@@SkidderKev I run a Takeuchi TB1140 excavator with a two roller fixed head. It's built by Upton forest equipment. He is a one man show that builds them in a hole in the wall shop about 35 miles from my house. He will build the head and attach it to any 70 to 100 hp excavator. This is my 7th one I have owed from him in the last 30 years. I used to run them about 5 to 6 thousand hours then sell them and have him build me a new one. But I really have loved this one. So I have ran it almost 13 thousand hours so far.
@@SkidderKev I have been hi research and development guy for most of them years. This machine has a lot of my ideas on it. Took us a long time. But we finally got this one just the way I like it.

Hi Skidder Kev, I had originally heard of U through. David Halley Logging from near Grand Rapids MN. I wonder if U know how he is, or what he is up to? I really miss his Videos, a great guy. I run a bell 3 wheeler dangle grapple saw head to do most of it all falling limbing skidding bucking and sorting stacking. With at times help from hand cutting and cable skidding. U guys have a nice smaller operation gig going.

Those 3 wheel machines are pretty awesome too. We did look at them a while back and ended up with the kubotas instead.

What log grapple you running
This grapple is made by maratach. We are very happy with them. I think we have had the 1 for 5 years now. They make a 65" (what we are running) and a 72"
How many loads/cords a day can you all produce with this set up?
Alot of factors go into this but we would do well over a double load in some dense Ash stand close to the landing. The boss will bunch for a few hrs in the morning in 2 sections and then we both will top, skid and stack.

How big of a tree in diameter can that head handle? Being you have one, what’s your opinion on using the exact set up on post oak? Will it get the job done?
Since we don't have post oak here I am going to say it's close to white oak or bur oak for weight. So we cut almost only Ash with our head and it's probably half the weight of oak. So the problem would lie in how big of a tree you can handle. If you are looking at cutting 15" plus majority of the time I would say you would be doing cut and push instead of pick and place. So after blabbing here if you are cutting bigger stuff I would say it is not the right set up for you.
@@SkidderKev on average the trees Ill be cutting are between 12” & 24”. I’m going to assume I need a bigger machine correct? Really like this head being the fact I have 3 skid steers. Thanks your response bud.
I mentioned it to the boss (he is the one that runs the buncher) he agreed with what I said but he also said he would cut the size stuff you mentioned. It's just all trying to control it thats all. The buncher head weighs 2300lbs too.

I'm sure they would be handy but these are made about 30 mins from us and are priced reasonable too. You get use the the manual rotate too. We love these ones.
Great videos. what do you guys use to get the SVL to and from job site. I am looking at buying a trailer and was just wondering
Now that we have 2 we are getting a local tow company that has a tilt and load and he can move both for us at 1 time. But we have used a tandem flat deck with a 6 foot beaver tail to move it, it was our buddies but I think it was a load Maxx trailer.

Ya need to have A restricted license or better to move it legally. Ya the rules can be tough. All weight, chains, insurance, stickers, and pre trip books. Having someone reliable can take some of the headaches away from it.
Also we are in Acton so not to to far away

im not sure of the exact cost but somewhere in the 30k range.
Wonder how the cab will handle the first one that comes backwards? These cabs surely aren't built like a buncher or a skidder? Hopefully you all never find out! Thanks for video!
You are right they won't be build nearly as heavy. One plus is the buncher head comes up higher the cab roof so that would maybe help it with a impact. Also we try to leave the big stuff or tricker stuff for hand cutting.
@@SkidderKev I guess with head being higher. It should hold the heavier end up. Seems everybody eventually start pushing their luck trying the tricky or more questionable ones as they gain experience with any type of cutter. Especially on really hot or cold days when ya just don't want to get out with a chainsaw and want to get the job done. Just be careful...
what determens your sawlogs? size species or markets do you try hard to sort them or is cause the landowner wants it that thing gonna hurt your work in the end not a big fan of those
Most of the time size. If its nice (4 sides clear) we will go down to 12inch. If the pallet market is good we will go smaller but most of that time its just firewood. You think the buncher will hurt our work?

I hear what you're saying. We still have a guy topping so it didn't take a job away. We are still experimenting with it just to see if its really right for us or if we maybe need to look a different direction
Can't see how the machine works from the outside! Try videoing from the outside of the machine so we see how the cutter head works. Horrible video!
its tough to get set up and ne close enough to get close up footage. I do have some other videos of it running if you want to check them out. maybe they will meet your standards.
