- ALBIR - A tour of Albir in Alicante, Spain
Albir, a holiday destination between Benidorm and Calpe and nestled on the Costa Blanca in Spain, offers a great beach and more laid-back holiday atmosphere compared to its neighbor, Altea. While it shares the stunning backdrop of the Sierra Helada mountains and the sparkling Mediterranean Sea, Albir has developed its own distinct character, attracting a mix of residents and visitors seeking a balance of tranquility and accessibility. It's a place where you can enjoy the relaxed pace of a beach town while still having easy access to a range of amenities and activities.
One of Albir's defining features is its beautiful, long, and relatively flat beach. Unlike some of the more rugged coves found elsewhere on the Costa Blanca, Albir's beach is known for its fine, golden sand and gentle, shallow waters, making it particularly popular with families and those seeking a less strenuous beach experience. The promenade that runs alongside the beach is a hub of activity, lined with cafes, restaurants, and shops, offering a pleasant place to stroll, enjoy a meal with a sea view, or simply relax and watch the world go by. The beach itself is well-maintained, with plenty of space for sunbathing, and offers various water sports activities for those seeking a bit more adventure. The calm waters are perfect for swimming, and the beach is often awarded a Blue Flag for its cleanliness and quality.
Albir's development as a town is relatively recent compared to some of its neighbors. This means that while it may lack the historical depth of a place like Altea, it offers a more contemporary feel. The town is characterized by its modern architecture, clean streets, and well-maintained public spaces. You'll find a good selection of apartments and villas, many of which offer stunning views of the sea and the surrounding mountains. The town's layout is generally more organized and less labyrinthine than the winding streets of an old town, making it easy to navigate and explore.
Despite its modern feel, Albir hasn't lost touch with its natural surroundings. The Sierra Helada Natural Park, which rises majestically behind the town, offers a wealth of opportunities for hiking and exploring. There are various trails to choose from, ranging from easy walks to more challenging climbs, rewarding hikers with breathtaking panoramic views of the coastline and the surrounding countryside. The park is also home to a diverse range of flora and fauna, making it a haven for nature lovers. The proximity to the mountains provides a dramatic backdrop to Albir's coastal scenery, creating a visually stunning environment.
Albir is also conveniently located for exploring the wider Costa Blanca region. It's just a short drive from Altea, Benidorm, and other popular destinations, making it a great base for day trips. The town itself offers a good range of services, including supermarkets, shops, banks, and medical facilities, ensuring that residents and visitors have everything they need within easy reach. While Albir might not have the same bustling nightlife as some of the larger resorts, it offers a relaxed and friendly atmosphere with a good selection of restaurants serving both local and international cuisine. It's a place where you can enjoy a peaceful evening stroll along the promenade, savor a delicious meal, and soak up the tranquil ambiance of the Mediterranean. In essence, Albir provides a balanced experience, combining the beauty of the Costa Blanca coastline with the convenience of modern amenities and a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.

I lived in Albir 20 years ago for a year. It has the 3rd highest number of Norwegians living there after Oslo and New York. The mayor of Albir is from Norway too.
Lovely place but expensive.
Ah didn’t know that!
Wonder why Norwegians like it so much?
Come on Bethany we all want to see you presenting the videos for Dad 😂
What is the water temperature? Is the bike trail connected from Albir to Altea and Benidorm?
Not sure
