    Awesome Mike! This reminds me that I gotta take a deeper dive into APRS with the Mobilinkd.

      Thanks for watching! I hope it was helpful. While SMSGTE went down shortly after I did this, I've seen other alternatives for texting via APRS--I just haven't done that yet. I use the Mobilinkd every week though and it's been great.

    Nice video. BTW, RadioMail will create a Winlink account for you if you don't have one already as part of the onboarding setup.

    I do have the Mobilinkd TNC3 and It works but we tested the Baofengs for APRS and fund they were quote Deaf. That does not mean they do not work but their range is liminted. Now this is not liminted to Baofeng but most SOIC RF radios we tested. We wanted to use them for a Micro Digipeater to fill in on an event. I jsut wanted to share my results do with it what you please.

      Thanks for watching and sharing! Next time I’m on a road trip, I might need to compare my Yaesu HT against the Baofengs and see what the difference is. So far, I haven’t had an issues from the QTH and surrounding area.

    This was helpful thanks. Did you have to change any transmit delay settings or anything for the baofeng? All my settings are like yours but can’t connect to gateway 1 mile away. I hear it transmit on another radio but no connection. I am at a loss.

      Are you talking about a gateway for Winlink? I wonder if there’s something on their end. That happens occasionally with the one closest to me for packet. Another thing that can get in the way is if more than one app is trying to use the TNC-for example, make sure APRSfi is closed out before trying RadioMail. The settings I changed were the ones I shared in the video. Let me know a little more and maybe we can figure it out.

      @@MikeN2MAK yes. A gateway. I am thinking the one I am trying to hit has his antenna pretty low and is in an area with a lot of tall buildings around him. I don’t use any other apps than RadioMail with my TNC so no interference there. It’s clearly making tone and the radio is transmitting. It’s just not hitting its target I guess. I’m gonna take a drive a few miles down the road and camp out in the parking lot where I know there is another one and see if I can connect there.

      @@caroleemoreno8086 Good thinking. If you can get it to work from another location, then that helps narrow down the issues. I've had trouble with a local gateway a few times, only to find out a few days later the issue was on their end. Meanwhile, I was trying to figure out what I might be doing wrong on my end, LOL. That said, troubleshooting like this, while frustrating, is helpful, since things don't always go as expected in the field or when traveling, so it can be a good exercise. I hope you get it sorted out!

    I'm guessing you would need to have another station using VHF for that to work on winlink. I can see the APRS working if anybody around me used APRS but not going to happen without another station on VHF

    • @MikeN2MAK
      @MikeN2MAK  ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s correct. For Winlink in this video, I’m connecting to a gateway in the region. Like everything in amateur radio, there’s always compromises, which is why it’s good to have options.

    • @MikeN2MAK
      @MikeN2MAK  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kb9liq that's too there's no Winlink gateways nearby. There's more the TNC4 can do, but it's not necessarily for everybody.
