A comparison between using the "ND-Filter" in the app vs using the real ND-Filters from Freewell might be interesting. As in shooting the same photo using the same filter steps with both methods and comparing the quality, especially in brighter areas of the image to see how close the app filter gets to the real one. I'm still a beginner but as I understood it a software ND-filter isn't actually something that is possible, if the details get blown out they're gone so I'm really curious how their software filter actually works. I also wonder why the software ND-Filter goes up to ND1000, that really sounds like it shouldn't be possible with software and with limiting exposure to 4sec while the software ND filter is active the use cases for such high ND values seem pretty limited.
It seems that the software ND Filter on Samsung's Expert Raw has limitations. Like, the exposure length is limited to 4 seconds even the ND filter is at 10-stop or ND1000. Perhaps, due the fixed aperture of the main cam of the S23 Ultra at f/1.7, so the amount of light entering the sensor stays the same and also the DoF is fixed. Dear Shane, I would love to see a waterfall long exposure photograph on the S23 Ultra during the evening time/before sunrise or golden hour/blue hour to see whether the the shutter speed changes or not when the ND filter is applied.
@@DylRicho They have actually fixed a lot since I commented. There were a lot of issues. Fringing, overexposure, edge sharpness, artifacts and a lot more. They have fixed most of it. A little overexposure is still there but now it's easily fixable.
I dont have it yet either an i am in australia. No update in the play store, no options under labs, and no extra icon on the tool bar. May just take a while.
Not sure. The metadata shows the shutter as the same speed that I shot at. Not like the iPhones 30second shot, 10 second metadata. So really not too sure.
They should start by making the app create actual raw files, at the moment there is just a compressed jpg with heavy color banding in dark areas inside the dng container.

Which is better though like is it a big difference? And is it worth getting a seperate ND filter rather than just ysing the built in one?
Why does Expert lab not working in my S23 ultra? Anyone having this problem? In the settings it says "Not available with the current mode or camera"
Very interesting. I do love doing long exposure photography. Thanks for the info 👍

S22 ultra doesn't have ND😢 option in Expert Raw.
I hope this comes to the s22 ultra and they fix the astro mode too.
What's wrong with the astro mode? Genuinely curious.

I have the S23 and Expert Raw, but this update hasn't arrived to my phone yet in my region :/
Keep looking mate. I didnt think I had it either, until i used ExpertRAW and it notified me then

I am in Italy. It didn't update automatically. I went to the Play Store and was able to update the app with the ND filter.
Good job not losing your shit on the black flys
HAHA you get used to them
Wonder if the S22 Ultra will get the update?
I was just about to but the freewell filters just before this update 😊
The freewell ones are great mate. I would say a combination of both is where the sweet spot will be
Snap lol got mine coming for Christmas shipped from the us to the uk
You will not regret it, dont worry@@DS_Dronezone
I don't have this "ND" option in expert raw with my s22 ultra
Update the software.
Doubt it will get it either. Samsung is probably using it as a 'feature' of the newer phones to get more people to upgrade. 🙄
Neat, I’m curious how they’re doing it, just lowering the exposure?

@@ShayneMostyn reach out to Samsung for comment please lol
I doubt Samsung would like me very much@@ScottBaker1
@@ShayneMostyn how could they not? lol

100% mate
@@ShayneMostyn Any chance to get some awareness to this issue? Support does not care since 3 years.
I doubt they will do anything about it. Too niche@@donnawetter1513
@@ShayneMostyn But they can't just call the App ExpertRAW and pretend it does anything like that.

Very interesting, I'll tell the wife AA she's the Samsung user 🏴👍
Cheers mate, thanks for watching :)
