Over the past few (years, honestly), I've watched other people make custom hard candy from scratch - oddly satisfying pulling, stretching, rolling, and chopping - with adorably tiny results. So, after a lot of watching from the sidelines, I decided that I needed to try this out for myself - how hard could it actually be? So I ventured to Lofty Pursuits candy store in Tallahassee, FL where Greg & the team taught me how to sling candy - old school style. We made custom flavored drop candy in a press, and two different batches of image candy - one watermelon, and one tiny disgruntled alien. What do you guys think of our final candies?

I've been watching your Dad's videos for YEARS now, and he's just an amazing rennaisance man. Is there anything he can't do, or doesn't know something about? Something a lot of candy makers I watch say is, essentially, "it's just candy". No one is living or dying on whether it comes out perfectly, or even right. It's a delightfully "hakuna matata" outlook.
As someone who does have a job like that I am filled with envy about those kinds of jobs.

My daughter and I LOVE Lofty Pursuits. We live a few hours away in Pensacola but we stop by whenever we are in town to watch them make candy and load up on their amazing vegan ice cream. I'm so glad you bring attention to small businesses ❤️
I've rewatched this video so many times and I think one of the (underratedly) best parts is at 14:21. Watching Jake run back up while repeating "keep rolling," then reassuring her, is so wholesome. I think that's one of the many moments in this video where you can tell how much the staff genuinely care about making sure Saf felt comfortable while she learned at a rapid pace

I’ve watched these guys for a long while, they’re like this all the time. Super friendly, super funny, and hearing their banter makes each video amazing to listen to. Them and Hercules are great channels if you like watching these types of people banter and work, they are sister stores after all lmao.

I love that Saf never goes in with an attitude that she’s going to master anything in one day. She genuinely appreciates the time it takes to become a craftsman/artisan and just wants to celebrate their craft by trying it out, exposing her audience to it, and having fun!

Coming back to rewatch this and realizing Saf is basically the Mike Rowe of our generation. Except instead of dirty jobs, it’s “it’s not that hard, right?” Jobs (spoiler: they’re usually difficult)
So fun! It reminds me of the old-style candy from my father’s youth (1920s?) with little flowers as the images.
Safiya and Tyler definitely soulmates. He’s always so supportive and she always makes him laugh. I strive to have a relationship like that.

This was released a year ago and I've only recently come across Lofty. The algorithm is weird man. Great video and super satisfying to watch these masters at work.
Lofty Pursuits has been a staple of my life since they converted to an ice cream parlor. I’m so glad that you got to experience this with them, the team and Greg are all so lovely!
Lofty Pursuits has been there when I celebrated my sisters graduation, MY graduation, when I got accepted to college, and most recently I brought my then boyfriend (soon to be fiance and one month to the day anniversary husband) when we visited my parents. Watching this video is making me so nostalgic. I think I’m gonna try to book a flight soon to go home and see my parents and visit Loftys 😂
