I worked there in Estes Park with the National Park Service back in the summer of 1974. I just graduated from high school in Arlington, Va. and this was my going to be my first time alone on a trip by myself. I worked with 4 other people on the trails making safe and cleaned for hikers. We camped out in the mountains for 10 days and then 4 days back in the barracks by the visitor center I think. We did a lot of partying that summer, as long as we got the job done. Remember one day a buddy and myself hitchhiked to Denver to see a concert 80 miles away. Johnny Winter, I think. Took us all night to get back. We also went to a place called the "Rock Inn" many a time. By some trailer park as I recalled. Anyway, I enjoyed Estes Park and hope to come back at some point. That was one crazy summer.

I almost drove this road yesterday in my sports car. I'm so glad I wasn't feeling that stupid.

I've been here many times. Thanks for a great video. No loud music or constant yammering telling me what I'm looking at, just beautiful Colorado. Good job.

So this is all one way drive? What signs should I look for off of Trail Ridge Road? I usually enter from the Estes Park side. Thanks for any help you can provide!

I drove this today. Scariest thing I’ve ever done. Will only do it again w a partner. I had my dog w me and it was scary for me driving it alone. It was beautiful, but scary narrow roads.

Well, SOMEONE needs to do this drive for 2018. My wife and I took this drive on August 24th, 2018, and this road wasn’t in the best shape. In fact there were several potholes which made it a pretty miserable ride for my wife who had back surgery a few years ago, and now is complaining that her back hurts. I guess it would have been nice if a sign would have been posted like they do for people when they’re about to get on an amusement park ride that’s going to be rough. Besides the potholes, there were several deep ruts that I kept having to dodge, and every time I did, my wife “Had a Cow” thinking we were about to take a dive off the edge into our certain death! Admittedly, even as a professional driver of 35+ years, it made me nervous a few times, but I actually enjoyed it, but I was thankful that we had rented a Hyundai all wheel drive Santa Fe, which handled all 16 sharp cutbacks pretty well. We’re just Flat Landers from Florida, and we both enjoyed the AWESOME SCENERY that this drive offered, although I’m not sure how much of it my “Co-Driver” saw as her eyes were glued on the road most of the time. We had been to Estes Park 3 times before, but this was DEFINATELY a new experience.

Great video! We were just there in September but we chickened out of taking this route and stayed on Trail Ridge.

Try it next time! It's one way and there's plenty of room if you don't do anything silly. Stay right in the middle of the road. Have fun!

I would not be brave enough to drive this one. I drove Trail Ridge Road when I was in my 60’s. I won’t be driving it in my 80’s. Beautiful drive though. I’m glad I drove it.

This is a beautiful video, but it doesn't do Old Fall River Road justice. It must be experienced. I drove Old Fall River to the Alpine Visitor Center a few days ago (August 29). It is a truly incredible ride -- definitely not for people who fear highs or are concerned with trivial little details like guard rails to prevent you from plummeting to your death. The only National Park road I've driven that compares is Going to the Sun Road in Glacier, and that one is paved, with traffic in both directions, and guard rails on the tight turns. If you are in Rocky Mountain, you should give Old Fall River a try.

@jayef53 - We were there September 2018 and had originally planned to take Old Fall River Road but we chickened out at the last minute 😅. I hope we can be braver next time because it looks awesome!

Is this road an old wagon road, or just newer just looks old? Love this, wish there was sound or narrators, music, or just voices,

I agree, it looks like I was going much faster than I was. The fisheye lens on the GoPro gives it that illusion. In fact, I don't think I ever went above 15mph. The road is rather sketchy, and the beauty was almost too much to comprehend. It really is better in person, if you ever get the chance, please go check it out in person.

I did it this way so you could add your own soundtrack. Whatever you feel would make you most happy while taking a virtual cruise through the Rocky Mountains on a beautiful day. I always play John Denver's Greatest Hits, but once in awhile I'll melt my ears with Appetite For Destruction.
