    Ben, We made the same drive in Mid-late Sept 2018. It was a very enjoyable drive. Very few vehicles the day we did it. Going down the other side of the mountain we were in a rain/sleet/snow episode.... Thanks for sharing and refreshing my memory....

    Back in the early 90’s my dad bought a brand new Chrysler Mini Van, under 2000 miles on it. Took it up this road, he would always say how that vans suspension was never the same after! I haven’t been as an adult but remember being horribly terrified when we would travel up OFRR

    Really enjoyed this. It is a drive my husband and I take every year. Gave me my RMNP fix until we return there in September. Thanks for the nice job.

    Great video! Enjoyed watching. Great choice of music. I love driving on this road and it is one of my favorites. One time was not enough for me. It’s very addicting!

    Brings back an old memory, but one I still think of now and then. I spent the summer working in RMNP in the 2nd year of the YCC pilot program in 1972. We lived in the old CCC cabins that used to be at Hollowell Park. I was riding with a ranger up Fall River Road and the rise in altitude was so rapid (we were in a hurry) that I could not stay awake. Kept falling asleep and hitting my head on the back window of his pickup truck, lol. That Chapin Creek trailhead will take you over the pass/saddle and into the Chapin Creek valley, with the Mummy Range to your east. Not many visitors at all in that area. I camped back in there a few times and woke up one morning with a huge heard of elk grazing all around my tent, some literally just 10' away. That whole summer was the most memorable time in my life. I'm 69 now. Worked during the weekdays on things the park didn't have the manpower for, like taking down the overhead emergency phone lines from Jim's Grove and putting in a buried cable, assisting in back country litter (as in injured hiker or climber) carry outs. I would take off every Friday afternoon and go on a 2 night solo backpacking trip. Floated in a rubber raft on one of those carry outs across Chasm Lake at sunrise, Twin Sisters Peaks to the East. Thank you so much for this.

    Oh my gosh, I loved this. Everything about it. The video, the music, the lack of chatter but with just enough informative commentary, and very importantly your voice. That voice…so smoothly southern but with no twang. My heavens where’d you get that voice? Thanks for a great video.

    I hope you come back and redo your trip up Fall River Road. You need to take time to explore. There is so much beauty to be seen but you have to stop and get out of your car.

    Beautiful scenery! We went 4 years ago but not on old fall river rd. What vehicle were you in when you filmed this? I want to make sure I can take my 1 ton 4wd truck on the trail.

      Hi Billy. Glad you enjoyed the video. There would be no problem using your truck. I was driving a 2wd GMC Sierra, and had no problems at all. I think a Dodge mini-van passed me at some point. :)

    Great video, by the way!

      Glad you enjoyed the video. I believe Old Fall River Road closes in early October, but you might want to double check the NPS website to make sure. Have a great time!

    I’m thinking of taking this trail this week, but Ford raptor is 10” wider than f150. Is this trail going to be too narrow or no problem?

    Where did you enter the park?

    • @benlindsayhondo
      @benlindsayhondo  ปีที่แล้ว

      There are two roads leading into the park from Estes Park...Fall River Road (Hwy 34) or the main Park Entrance Rd (Hwy 36). I used Hwy. 36 which eventually turns into Trail Ridge Road and will take you up to the Alpine Visitors Center. Old Fall River Road will also take you to the Visitor Center.

  • @katiepierce4213

    What is the road down like?

    • @benlindsayhondo
      @benlindsayhondo  ปีที่แล้ว

      Old Fall River Road is a one-way road going up to the Alpine Visitors Center. From the visitor's center, you can take Trail Ridge Road which is the main paved road back to Estes Park (east side of the park), or go the other way, also paved, to the town of Granby (west side of the park). Both are nice drives.

    Is this a scary drive? I did million dollar hwy in april but im scared of dirt roads.

    • @benlindsayhondo
      @benlindsayhondo  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, not at all. Very beautify and one way. Plenty of places to pull off to let people pass, and a 4WD is not needed assuming the weather is decent. Enjoy!
