In this dot mp4 I will discuss the case of OnlyJayus. My minds on umm…other things. Onlyjayus is a tik toker who received significant backlash for accusing others of copying her, saying saying the n word, and making a joke that was construed as ableist. Currently she has about 17.8 million followers. To make matters worse, she often exploded after being called out. This is the continuous downfall of OnlyJayus.

As a physically disabled person: people should lighten up about dark humor. It was clearly a joke and anybody who would be genuinely swayed to pickpocket someone from a tiktok are predisposed to henious acts anyway.
Also, semi-related: don't get offended on other people's behalf. As someone who's very visibly disabled, people constantly get up in arms for things that aren't worth it. If someone makes a genuinely funny cripple joke, I'll laugh at it. If you don't dig the humor, that's fine, but don't act as if it's inherently offensive just because there's a dude with sideways hands in the room.

Agree wholeheartedly with that sentiment. If it makes you feel any better, 90% of those comments were trolls because of all her previous reactions to criticism, making it easy to set her off. At that point in time she was already pretty disliked as well.

@@Ajzan1 I think policing who can and cannot make certain types of jokes is dumb and potentially *actually* ableist. If I was suddenly the only person allowed to enjoy humor about my disability I would find that incredibly patronizing and alienating. That said, I get why the optics of it can be bad if you're already in hot water. I think she should have reconsidered telling the joke for her own sake, knowing how it would turn out, but I don't think the joke itself was anything 'wrong'.
I’m glad someone said it. But I also understand the whole not making the joke unless it applies to you type of thing. And in all honestly the only people who would take the joke seriously are other people with certain neurological disorders that make it hard to differentiate when to take things literally.

I just wanted to point out how reaction to a joke depends on who (and how) is telling it.
To me the delivery of that joke is still rather weak and with that how controversial she was already, no wonder it blew up.

"Cancel culture" doesn't work, especially for people who make their living on social media. TH-camr after TH-camr has been "cancelled" but they just come back after a few weeks/months of damage control and people forget and move on. The internet's attention span is shorter than that of a goldfish, you have to do some real heinous shit for people to stay mad for a long time. Shane Dawson, James Charles, Jeffree Star, Trisha Paytas all came back and are doing fine, granted those are all drama/makeup channels. If your following is big enough, you'll be fine.

I said before and I will say it again. Most of these social media platforms are an extreme risk for people who are way too young to understand fame and the responsibility that comes with it...hell, not even full grown adults can handle it sometimes. It is the only way for them to take a break and think about it all with cool head.

As someone who is disabled, these other people being outraged for the sake of an outrage because of a joke need to grow grow up. They're so against taking responsibility for their behaviors that they opt to burn bridges and destroy friendships defending themselves rather than accepting the possibility that they too have flaws. Edit: it doesn't sound like any of the things that she did were that great, or that bad (except for the comment thread, but it looks like there's a lot more context necessary from reading her message) but at the same time the people attacking her never took the highroad either. Stupid feedback loop of drama coming from a tortured soul that's had a hell of a life. That doesn't condone anything, but that's one of the glaring problems with the Internet as you forget that there's a human on the other side.
Edit 2: I think your overall summary at the end was fair. But I do still think a large minority of the blame lands on those who treated her poorly in these interactions. But I agree as with any person dealing with difficult things such as popularity, taking personal responsibility is always the best starting point. She always seemed weird and pompous. But that's what I feel about most TikTokers. Which is why I don't want to download it. I just make reels on Instagram and Facebook to be silly and weird. I feel like anything you say will get you cancelled for some reason. People don't like opinions. You could literally say you prefer dogs over cats and people will try to call you all sorts of names. I'm childfree and I'm very vocal about not wanting kids or really liking kids. I know my lifestyle will get me cancelled automatically. To preface, I don't really like kids but I will never allow any to be in danger or get hurt. It's just my life choice. Ok so a lot of people are wondering abou onlyjanus. Now I am going to sun up the story a bit. She want ready to deal with hate as a content creator. So instead of ignoring it (like most) she complained about it. This fed the trolls and the hate got worse and worse. She made many tweets, reddit post and tic tic videos complaining about it, saying how she did nothing wrong and she doesn’t understand why people are mad. Eventually a message was brought up of her saying a racial slur. This message was really old though. She made an apology video and people also hated on that. Soon their was petition signed to get her off the platform. It got enough signatures and she was cancelled.
This happens to other people there are several celebrities and singers who have said the n word as a child and they're white and guess what they still had or have a successful career some apologized and others haven't.

Idk if she really does have ADHD or not. But as someone with ADHD I can see how her disorder could’ve gotten in the way of things or make her explode the way she does. I know many ADHDers who have a lot a lot of problems thinking before acting, and even when the think about it, they could misinterpret the entire situation and cause even more drama. I am in no way justifying what she’s done or said.
If her adhd is getting in the way of doing harmful things on the internet, it's just best to delete social media and take care of herself. It doesn't matter what she has or doesn't have. You have to know yourself to limit yourself from doing things you shouldn't be doing.
