Very nice recipe, I have just started making soap, I made one with lard but added less lard and put small amounts of coconut and a few other oils, also some jasmine oil and food colouring, as it was the first batch, I have been giving it to friends to give feed back, my skin is so soft
In Canada and the US as well as the UK there are ingredients that are approved and some that are not. All places have labelling rules to follow as well. Food colouring is not an approved colourant in any place that I know of (I help admin two soaping groups that are world wide and have never heard it being allowed by anyone). It is not approved for cosmetic usage, just food usage.

What a lovely friendly and informative video. It is always helpful for a new soaper to watch someone working in a home kitchen, most of us have limited space, starter utensils before gradually or if like me quickly gathering more, I have watched several different presentations but this comes right up high with some of my favourites. You must have a busy lifestyle on a farm etc, I spotted baby bottle on the sink, so well done for also being environmentally aware, that also came through without your saying it. Wish you all the very best. From down under Oh I now mean to purchase a soap cutter similar to yours. Waiting for a chap here in Aus to restart making as postage is way to much to import one. I am so glad it helped you. That is why I wanted to make it, to help people make their own. The baby bottle is for our bottle sheep and our bottle goats, we had a few sets of triplets this year so we top them up a couple times a day. Keeps us all busy...lol My cutter was made by a nice chap in his garage, I love supporting small time folks. Its a fantastic cutter but it was a good many years before I saved up enough or made enough soap to justify purchasing one. Small steps to get to the big goals. :-) keep on soaping and enjoy!

Yeah!! I am so glad I could help you! grocery store oils for soap are just perfect. I made soap for many years that way before moving on to bigger bulk oils. They are not inferior at all, they are perfect for small batches and for learning with. Feel free to ask anymore questions if you need to.

Hi, you soap was beautiful, I loved the creamy color. I do have a question. I am a little confused. I saw that you put the soap in the refrigerator. I have seen other cold process soap videos where they wrap the soap in a towel and put it in a cooler to keep it warm. I'm sure there is a reason for both. Could you explain how to know when to use each method?
So for goats milk it easily over heats because of the natural sugars in the milk. When goats milk gets hotter it goes tan or can gel or partial gel. To avoid this happening it is put in the fridge to keep cooler and to keep its more white appearance. If you want to gel your soap or called forced gel and to avoid partial gel you can wrap it and the heat the soap makes will force it to gel. Sometimes gelling it will make natural colours pop a bit more. Some folks prefer their soaps gelled. Most people avoid gelling their soap with goats milk though as they simply don’t want that tan colour. Neither way is wrong it’s just a personal preference. Just know sometimes force gelling goats milk can cause volcanos and heat tunnels as well as the darker coloured soap.

Yes you can double the recipe BUT still run it through soap cal as some of the values may change. It’s not like a cake recipe where just doubling everything works out perfectly. Happy soaping!
I got my coconut oil from a local soap making store. They sell it in the 5 gallon pails. Often you can find it at restaurant supply stores. You can also order online from many soapmaking stores.

I put it in the fridge to stop it from going through gel phase. You can gel it but it will go a darker colour. I like my soaps to stay whiter, so I try to avoid the gel phase by putting it in the fridge. I leave it in the fridge for usually 24 hours or more

Thank you, I hope it helps you make amazing soaps! As for scents that all depends on what you are using to scent it. EO's all have their own safety rating and I usually use the EO calculator. FO's also have a safety rating and you would have to check with the supplier to find out the recommend percentage.

No preservatives are needed. When the lye mixes with the milk and oils and saponifies it is no longer milk, oils and lye it becomes soap. The chemical properties completely change. Same reason you can use eggs in soap, pumpkin, aloe, coffee or any other fun items
Hot process soap is “cooked” like with a crock pot with the lye, liquid and oils. Cold process is not cooked just the oils are warmed up to become liquid.
no it won't hurt the soap at all if you dont refrigerate . But it might get super hot on you, it will gel! you just have to watch it and be ready to intervene if needed.

You can modify this recipe any way you would like. You just need to run it through a soap calculator. The recipe in the video does makes 13 bars of soap cut at one inch thick. I like using soapcal for my soap making math.

For sure you can use turmeric as an addictive. I have not made it with papaya but no reason not to. Just subtract the amount of papaya from your liquid

This is a cold process bar not a melt and pour bar. If you want to add scents to it you should add them just before you are ready to pour. After it reaches trace then add your scent and mix a bit more, then pour into your mounds. depends on how big I cut them. I usually cut them just a touch bigger then one inch so once cured they cure down to one inch in size giving me apron 13 bars per loaf mold
you can use the percentages i gave and enter them into a soap calculator and it will give you all the information that you need to calculate it to 3 lbs :-)
You most definately can!! and add a splash of honey and you have oatmeal, milk and honey soap. Just beware the honey will make it even hotter so take your time and get it into a frige but be prepared that it might gel a bit.

@@jets.3561 I am sorry I dont make melt and pour soap only from "scratch". Lye is not scary, just suit up as I show you in the video and you are good to go
Not a stupid questiont at all. No one wants to put something dangerous on their skin. Once the lye reacts with the oils and liquid and goes through suponification it is no longer lye it is soap. If you have followed safe usage rates there actually is no lye left over in the soap! They best anology I can give you is this: Water is made of hydrogen and oxygen but when the chemical reaction occurs it is no longet hydrogen and oxygen it is water. The chemical structure has completely changed in to something else! Just like soap. Once it has gone through suponification (chemical reaction) it is no longer lye, oils and liquid it is soap :-)

@@connerty_meadows_farm no it helping me greatly but I can't use lye with my cats and I'm using fats and goats milk my first is sunflower soap and I like to put even a tiny exfoliant blend this sunflower seed granola I gotta chop it up get one of those grinders with sunflower oil I have a almond oil I'm making after that is out of this world I'm using top of the line oils olive oil I don't drink in my smoothies I do kale avacado oil and grapeseed so if in perfect for out!
I have actually used bacon grease! It will need to be "cleaned" though. (google will help you with this) Then once it is cleaned you can go ahead and use it as lard. Now that said I wanted to see if I could get a bacon smelling soap using uncleaned bacon grease. It worked out ok. Didnt really smell like bacon at all though. But it made a perfectly usable soap even if it didnt smell the best.

crisco, or even palm oil. I have included three recipes in the description box below for you to pick the one that suits you best. Just remember that any modifications you make to the recipe will need to be run through a soap calculator for safety :-)

yes at minimum it has to cure (loose water, get a proper crystalline structure) for 6-8 weeks. But I find its lather is better, it last longer and it feels better on the skin after three months.
But you didn't actually use oils from the grocery store? Couldn't our outcome be different? You used bulk coconut oil and home rendered lard and your fresh goat milk.. vs store bought.
I used this same recipe with items from the grocery store for over 7 years before I was able to upgrade to bulk items, even now though when I dont want to order in bulk I head over to the grocery store for the same items I grabbed off the shelf. So no, the outcome would not be different. It is the same soap either way. Thus why I recommend beginners shop at the grocery store as I know it will make an amazing soap exactly like the one I make.
That’s your personal choice. You do realize that soap is antibacterial right? That means it’s clean. You do realize that people actually wash their hands? You do realize that pioneers made their soap over an open fire in a kettle? To each their own.
Did you watch the video? 🤔. She wears gloves while handling the lye parts. There’s no need for gloves with oils. Also by 48 hours it’s saponified so the lye is gone so no need for gloves while cutting either.

Informative.. What's the% of water n milk
it is 100% milk, no water. I also dont do a "water discount" I want all the goodness of the milk in there.

Absolutely you can use any milk you want! I do suggest freezing it as well though to prevent burning the sugars. Happy Soaping!

With the same recipe CAN YOU DO A temuric soap and papaya soap
For sure you can use turmeric as an addictive. I have not made it with papaya but no reason not to. Just subtract the amount of papaya from your liquid
I have sensitive skin and I started using lard soap, it is so much less drying than soap with vegetable oil.

We have septic also,, is it.ok to just wash the soap making equipment in hot soapy water and not use the towel ?

You might need to put them in a room with a fan or dehumidifier if you live in a very humid area, esp if you have a monsoon season.
How many bars of soap does 1 batch make?
depends on how big I cut them. I usually cut them just a touch bigger then one inch so once cured they cure down to one inch in size giving me apron 13 bars per loaf mold

you can use the percentages i gave and enter them into a soap calculator and it will give you all the information that you need to calculate it to 3 lbs :-)

You most definately can!! and add a splash of honey and you have oatmeal, milk and honey soap. Just beware the honey will make it even hotter so take your time and get it into a frige but be prepared that it might gel a bit.
Can we use goat powdered milk??
Yes you can! (I can't help you with the how as I have never used it given that we have goats, but I know lots of folks do use it)
You cant use it after a few days? You have to wait weeks?
you can use it after a few days but it will melt away very quickly. soap needs to cure a minimun of 6 weeks, 8 weeks is better and 3+ months is best

@@jets.3561 I am sorry I dont make melt and pour soap only from "scratch". Lye is not scary, just suit up as I show you in the video and you are good to go
Kind of a stupid question I’m new to this haven’t made any yet but putting Drano on our skin or lye wouldn’t that burn it while it’s in the soap
Not a stupid questiont at all. No one wants to put something dangerous on their skin. Once the lye reacts with the oils and liquid and goes through suponification it is no longer lye it is soap. If you have followed safe usage rates there actually is no lye left over in the soap! They best anology I can give you is this: Water is made of hydrogen and oxygen but when the chemical reaction occurs it is no longet hydrogen and oxygen it is water. The chemical structure has completely changed in to something else! Just like soap. Once it has gone through suponification (chemical reaction) it is no longer lye, oils and liquid it is soap :-)

nope unscented :-) You can scent yours if you wish though.
@@connerty_meadows_farm no it helping me greatly but I can't use lye with my cats and I'm using fats and goats milk my first is sunflower soap and I like to put even a tiny exfoliant blend this sunflower seed granola I gotta chop it up get one of those grinders with sunflower oil I have a almond oil I'm making after that is out of this world I'm using top of the line oils olive oil I don't drink in my smoothies I do kale avacado oil and grapeseed so if in perfect for out!

Can you use bacon grease ?
I have actually used bacon grease! It will need to be "cleaned" though. (google will help you with this) Then once it is cleaned you can go ahead and use it as lard. Now that said I wanted to see if I could get a bacon smelling soap using uncleaned bacon grease. It worked out ok. Didnt really smell like bacon at all though. But it made a perfectly usable soap even if it didnt smell the best.

you can use whatever kind of mold for your soap as you want to. There are no limits :-)

crisco, or even palm oil. I have included three recipes in the description box below for you to pick the one that suits you best. Just remember that any modifications you make to the recipe will need to be run through a soap calculator for safety :-)

Don't dis grocery stores, the are often cheaper than soap and candle suppliers.
If you had watched the video you would know that I encourage folks to shop for all their oils at the grocery store, esp when starting out. So thanks for watching
So you have to put it in a shoebox for six weeks before selling or giving us gifts
yes at minimum it has to cure (loose water, get a proper crystalline structure) for 6-8 weeks. But I find its lather is better, it last longer and it feels better on the skin after three months.

But you didn't actually use oils from the grocery store? Couldn't our outcome be different? You used bulk coconut oil and home rendered lard and your fresh goat milk.. vs store bought.
I used this same recipe with items from the grocery store for over 7 years before I was able to upgrade to bulk items, even now though when I dont want to order in bulk I head over to the grocery store for the same items I grabbed off the shelf. So no, the outcome would not be different. It is the same soap either way. Thus why I recommend beginners shop at the grocery store as I know it will make an amazing soap exactly like the one I make.

That’s your personal choice. You do realize that soap is antibacterial right? That means it’s clean. You do realize that people actually wash their hands? You do realize that pioneers made their soap over an open fire in a kettle? To each their own.
Why isn’t she using gloves
Did you watch the video? 🤔. She wears gloves while handling the lye parts. There’s no need for gloves with oils. Also by 48 hours it’s saponified so the lye is gone so no need for gloves while cutting either.
