This is good Chris, fun fact I wouldve never took fighting games competitive at all if it wasn't for Alex Valle showing me what cvs2 was all about on xboxlive.
15:32 So true. Back then, there was nothing to tell you how to play. There wasn't even magazines you could read at that time. It was all trial and error. Cost a lot of money to learn how to do DP, and when someone figured out how to do something, that secret went with them to their grave.
Bro, it's this kind of high quality content that really legitimizes what we all love to the rest of the world. The way that Alex speaks about all of this really shows how beautiful this scene was is and can be in the future. Fighting games are so much more than just a mindless game. Fighting games are even beyond chess in my opinion. They are expressive and intricate and strategic. Fighting games are so wonderful and deep and again, it's conversations like these that really boil it down and express some of the unspeakable qualities. Thank you
To the point of being aggressive, I played Vega in SFV and he had the fastest forward dash in that game. So everything I ever did in the neutral was to get the opponent to not punish me for dashing so I could get my hit/throw 50/50. I’d even lab out like people’s reactions to post throw tech scenarios to figure out like “if I get counter jab here and I’m just mashing forward dash after since I can’t combo from that range, is anyone gonna be ready for that?” No, of course not. I always tried to think “If I was my opponent, in what scenario would I be the least able to do anything about someone dashing in on me?” I think that extends to drive rush, which is even more flustering.
Ive watched a couple of these interviews now - I really like the way you listen intentionally and allow yourself to deviate from the structure to add additional context to certain stories and answers the guests bring. Great job!
@@christatarian2504Setup a donation link or similar. This is gold for the FGC. Personally I would be more than happy to drop a little contribution to say thank you. One more thing, I saw someone else upload a clip of you coaching them on TH-cam and it was great. If you could get a little crew together so you could have more video examples as you talked, that would take these discussions to another level. Actually talking about the theory behind the game is what makes your content stand out. Anyway thanks again, love these videos!
Man, keep doing these videos please. I remember when Yipes and chris matrix were doing these videos but stopped. Fgc needs this content for sure. We watch the players play all the time but still dont really know them. Between these videos and Maineenja's channel, y'all are preserving some good history/content for the fgc.
Loved hearing the old school talk. Brings me back to my first time seeing a Street Fighter 2 arcade in the wild. It really was like that, nothing will ever be as special.
11:30 - He's not kidding. I remember going to the arcades around the launch of CE, and there were so many people crowded around the machines, it was nuts. You'd be waiting like 30+ minutes to play once. I was only a little kid at the time, but I remember just standing around and watching for hours. A 2 minute match would cost you 50 cents, and the turnover rate was mad fast, so arcades were making way more money than they had been with single player or coop games.
I'm enjoying the aspect of the pod where we are basically just watching chris get advice from pro players. He's utilizing his chances to get advice and critique from the best players ever, to also inform us as well. I hope he keeps that format, it's great to hear a great player like chris' perspective as a student, and learn from legends as teachers. It's pretty cool ngl
@christatarian2504 yeah man, great work! Your journey is really inspiring because you are a great example of constantly pushing your boundaries even when you feel like the odds are stacked against you. You've genuinely become one of my fav players to follow as of recent. You're a great player and good man as well, keep it up! Congrats champ!
This episode has taken me back to the 90s I also remember walking into the arcade & hearing the Street Fighter 2 theme. Chris I started with Street fighter 2 in 91 I have played Ken in the game ever since. I have even sent you a player request in SF5. I would like to play you in SF6
There's a future where you're running live interviews for Capcom Pro events if you keep at this. Your level of preparedness, note taking mid interview, and ability to allow the interviewee to speak with limited interruptions is on point. But seriously though? When are we getting that runback interview with Daigo?
Man that was something special, I've loved fighting games since I was 12 and it is NOW that I'm 28 that an FGC is blossoming in my region, one of the many luxuries we didn't have in Venezuela was our own proper FGC, so I never got to live what you guys had. And hearing Uncle Valle's experience and knowledge is something else, man. I'm struggling a lot with improving my game and this kinda stuff really inspires me to keep up the grind, keep it up Chris, you got a new sub.
Great interview. A sight into the history of the FGC especially from valle, then onto your beginnings is incredibly interesting and just a joy to watch. Keep it up awesome work! I'm an 0'5 er the first 2 pro's I encountered was valle and dreamtheatre in cvs2, times I will never forget.

Your interviews are really bringing back some nice memories of simpler times and making me really nostalgic. Thank you for doing this!
It's so great to hear og's of the fgc talk about the past. We're pretty much hearing about how fgc meta has evolved and how it started. It is fascinating how far the meta has come along. It's almost as if we are actually in the games now with how crazy the meta has gotten.
My family also immigrated to US from Mexico in the 80s landed in LA and then moves to Santa Ana OC and those SF cabinets were everywhere… liquor stores laundromat, shakeys pizza was the spot for us. I miss those days.

SCR Daigo vs Alex Valle - Ryu mirror match!! The best. 2014 i think. Classic shit. Thanks for interviewing Mr Alex Valle (a true legend), amazing podcast. Keep it up Mr Tatarian.

Awesome interview. Time flies. When he was talking about the 7/11's, I remember that setup clearly. I remember when they had SFII (many 7/11's had this). There was another one down the street from the SFII one that had World Heroes and some other ones. At that age, the big problem was the money. I can't remember exactly, but I'm pretty sure it was 50¢ a game, and that 50¢ would go by *REALLY QUICKLY*
Chris Teezy killing these videos man. I’d recommend better lighting on you to increase the production quality just as a small suggestion. Keep these coming!!
