nice interview man! good questions was interesting to hear the history and the mindset (kinda behind the scenes info) from back then. maybe a tip to put your camera setting on manual focus, so you dont have the focus problem again? dont know if its possible for you but thats how i usually do it when i have a shot where nobody is moving
You just said the same exact words I was thinking of posting. BornFree, this is one of the best interviews I've seen on your channel. I highly respect Alex Valle, for he always have an educated opinion when it comes to fighting games. The only thing I disagreed with him, was about the seasonal DLC characters for SFV, I think that's one of the few things they should be applaud for.
its so crazy, that video played in the beginning is the reason i got into the FGC. before youtube was google video, i use to download google videos on my dial up internet of various tournament footage and this was one of the first ones i ever got. being on the other side of the world in australia, your really an inspiration. cant believe its been 17 years!! Granddaddy banana suit valle, you are the GOAT! BornFree, sick interview dude, keep it up!
Fair play man: you are one of the best things about a scene that has a tendency to be pretty toxic at times. Every time I come here for some new content, you remind me of why I love fighting games so much. On top of that: it's so nice to hear Valle talking about the history of the scene and I'm so glad that someone like you is out there to document it.
lol valle talks like an OG now but you think the arcades were less toxic than today? Fuck that lol.... shit talking in person would have half of the weak egos online crying to their moms.
Thank you for timestamping (as always). Don't worry about the autofocus hiccups, 'cause content is king and Valle's imput is always golden. Keep up the good work.
Keep it up man, you're one of my favorite interviewers to watch and listen to. Brilliant interview, maybe one of the biggest and best interviews so far. I'm looking forward to the next interview you have with Alex. It would be interesting though to have interviews with the likes of Mister Crimson, Ricki Ortiz, Daigo and Glity if you've not already got them recently. UK representing, making us proud.
another great interview BF. i always get something different out of every one of the dozens of interviews Valle's done over the years. if Master Zeku ends up being real, hope Valle picks him up since he 2ndary'ed Guy on SF4 and seems to enjoy Rashid alot.
Alex is such an interesting guy to listen to. Even though this interview was really long I pretty much watched the whole thing. I really like his insight because he talks about it in a way that avoids dumbing it down or making it too complicated to understand. Really want to hear about his trip to Japan in the next interview.
I don't always agree with Tio Valle but he'll always have my respect for everything he's done for the FGC. The first few minutes of this interview are really good btw. Great job as usual, BornFree.
I remember the A3 Nationals. I drove up there with Alex and the rest of the SHGL crew to compete (I literally did most of the driving haha). I don't recall what I placed, but I was like top 10. Some of us had VHS tapes of earlier Japanese tournaments but not for A3, and while you could gauge their execution, it wasn't as easy to measure their skill level since we'd never played them. And we were arrogant. The West coast ruled at the time, and Alex was favored to take 1st. Hiding-our-best-character was a real thing back then. But we were behind in A3 tech. Alex devised some cool V-ism stuff, but V-ism was better developed in Japan at that time. Alex is right. His ground game was better, but Daigo had that V-ism tech that was underdeveloped in the U.S. When he lost, we were deflated. The exhibition matches were awesome, though. All of the tech was "borrowed" and there were suddenly v-ism Akumas and A-ism Guys everywhere. I remember playing James Chen the very next SHGL tourney, and he used Guy with that Daigo tech. Alex is a good dude, and I love what he's done with community. Mr. Street Fighter is a very apt name. I'll always have a soft spot for Street Fighter and the old arcade days. Most of the SHGL crew have followed a different path, but it's awesome to have someone like Alex represent the way he does.
born free defacto interviewer of the FGC; got there through passion, curiosity and putting himself out there, happy he is getting more viewership Just love me some bornfree, he interfaces really well with almmoosttt everyone and doesn't have to hide things with cuts cuts cuts.....just feels natural, organic, very homie. Exactly how I like my FGC, and I think some commentators have done a great job at showing we can keep that feel even as we grow
that was an epic intro. Nice editing Bornfree. FYI: Dont use auto focus with spanish people. We talk with our hands and I think thats what ur camera was trying to focus on. Lol
@BornFree great interview, really love the nostalgia you captured with Alex. BTW Since snake eyes won CEO and that crazy win over xiao Hai, can your next interview be with snake eyes? Thanks!
----- We were in the *dark* when it came to tech, so we had to be way more proactive in getting good. Today's gamer is spoiled and has no idea how hard it was for us.
Oh man, I used to see Valle at Golf Land in the City of Stanton when SF3 came out. I didn't know who he was...hahaha! I just remember his nose and how badly he whooped me at SF3. After that I'd see him pretty often there and, but I just stuck to King of Fighters....my safe space. It wasn't until about 10 or 15 years later while chit chatting with a coworker, I found out who Alex Valle was....and you know what identified him in our conversation? His nose.
If anyone can find it, pick up the Versus Books Street Fighter Alpha 2 guide. There were a lot of old-school cats that helped create it (like Valle and Mike Watson). I still have mine (most of it) and it has a bunch of fundamental info in it for any fighting game. (It has Akuma and Ryu on the cover).
I'm still confused about the start of the internet. I'm 33, and I distinctly remember the internet first popping up in the public no earlier than 95. As a family, we got it in the house in early 97. I remember using in the libraries in 1996. But I keep hearing people talk about internet pages and activities in the beginning of the 90's on a public level. Where the heck were you people living?
Now that yahoo Esports is going away you're all I have :( you are forgiven for the blurriness, I would still watch your videos if it was just audio lol
Idk if people don't know, but Nintendo's "esports" game is definitely smash, whether it be Melee or Smash 4. Although Nintendo doesn't really support the scene too much
please .... its been a year and still questions about complaints about sfv.... sfv didn't promise arcade mode ... its so sad it keeps coming back to focusing in the negatives... hope you talk about other games instead :D
Wait, so MVCI is really THAT good? People slam SFV so much but now pros seem to be praising this game. I'm referring to gameplay here. That's a good sign!
Is this not what he was talking about moments before MVC:I came up? Early on everyone is happy and hopeful despite the warning signs and not actually understanding the game... then _everyone_ starts to catch on and people get vocal once it can't be brushed away anymore. The same exact people are doing the same thing all over again, and these will be the people telling you "ahhh, don't worry it'll get better!" for 3 years.
I'm glad that Alex enjoyed his time with Marvel Infinite, it's just sad to know that he's going to be ridiculed for showing any kind of happiness towards the game, which will inevitably lead to people calling him a shill as a result. It's sad that that's where we're at nowadays with video games, if one thing looks off about a game, it's practically taboo to compliment it in any regard. Does MVCI have problems? Yes, I think even Ray Charles would be able to tell you that there's some problems with the game, namely in its visuals. Another argument is the roster, to which I ask...you still believe that Ryce leak? It's De-confirmed people, the assets found on the demo already proved that Ryce is wrong. Don't trust Ryce...or at least don't trust him 100%. We're not getting a 28 character roster, it looks to be more around 32/34 characters. Frank West, Haggar, Dormammu and Ghost Rider are part of the launch roster (They have to be since the DLC is new characters only) Venom may be part of the launch roster (Which is a plus) and in the end we come out with a roster that has revamped veterans with a new feel, awesome newcomer choices like Jedah and Monster Hunter and the two most requested characters for both sides (X/Venom), being part of the launch roster...we didn't get off THAT bad. Could it be better? Oh of course it could, but it sure as hell could've been a hell of alot worse. And in regards to the graphics...do I think it's going to improve? Yes, because here's the thing...if the outcry is loud enough, Marvel is going to know, and you'd better believe that Marvel would make Capcom polish up their crown jewel of free advertisement if it meant gaining more money.
Slightly disappointed with the interview, unfortunately. Titled “Mr Street Fighter” why you spending 20 mins talking about other fighting games? Not a single mention of Rashid, tiers, worst matchups, demons, comparisons etc. etc. Such a wealth of Street Fighter history tap into, felt like a wasted opportunity. As mentioned the first 20 mins was AMAZING.
MrSwerdna Sorry to hear that dude. It's because it was an E3 interview. The big news was all the new fighting games. This won't be my last interview with Alex. Just the first.

Thank you. Great-great stuff.
is there anyway you could interview combofiend on his history in the FGC? I think that would be fun. Solid interview with Valle.
When I think about those times they bring a treat to my eye man. Wish they could reheat something like third strike again
I really hope you can interview Nemo and Gunfight at Evo, and also congrats on the 10k subs man :D
This is golden!
Congrats on 10k subs. Well deserved, man!
Absolutely loved this especially the first 20 minutes, it's amazing hearing about pre-internet fgc
----- We were in the *dark* when it came to tech, so we had to be way more proactive in getting good. Today's gamer is spoiled and has no idea how hard it was for us.
Alex Valle with the white patch of hair reminds me of guts after the berserker armor. Anyway this was a good interview.
ALEX VALLE KING OF STREET FIGHTER AND FGC!YOU SHOWED THE WAY MAN!RESPECT!
10000 subs congrats !!!!!
DNAisWookieUSER Thanks! Means so much. Hasn't really sunk in yet.
I want to see old footage of Tomo Ohira and players from that era
Oh man, I used to see Valle at Golf Land in the City of Stanton when SF3 came out. I didn't know who he was...hahaha! I just remember his nose and how badly he whooped me at SF3. His nose is godly.
One of the best arcades. Was painful to drive past the hollowed out husk on daily commutes.
Papa Valle, what a great guy!
Need an Alex Valle doco!
I can listen to the old days for hours haha
I want to hear the story about Valle going to Japan for the rematch. BornFree make it happen!!!
Born Free you are awesome.
Love Alex Valle
I respect this man a lot
Good! Keep it up!

Lol. Me too. I remember computers in the mid nineties at libraries. But I was in the UK. I know it all happened sooner in the US.
The history part was so fking good man.
Great lessons
Daigo doesnt fucking age he is 36 or 37, Mr street fighter (Alex) is 39 or 40 and you can tell his age.
Alucardjr69 Daigo takes the soul from every person he has defeated, nigga is immortal
dawicked2k8 lol
What does he mean when he says there's frame data for Arms? I know what frame data is, but doesn't every game have it? How could they not?
Much respect to uncle Valle for keeping it real. Legend.
ALEX IS SO COOL! 😁
alt.games.sf2 ... ahh I remember it so well, arguing with Sirlin :D
which of the FGC documentaries covers Valle the most?
Supergirl series rocks
Who did he say is his favorite player at 26:18?
BornFree Fighting!!!^^;;
Please do not use auto focus, great interview, though.
Now that yahoo Esports is going away you're all I have :( you are forgiven for the blurriness, I would still watch your videos if it was just audio lol
He is peruvian
Lol. Someone came in and downvoted 4 times with alt accounts in the space of 1 minute. Why do that?
The internet is weird.
Don´t worry, we upvoters got your back. It´s probably related to the whole MvCI drama that´s going on right now.
BornFree Welcome to TH-cam!
The FGC is weird, you never know what or who people hate and why so I wouldn't put it past someone hating on Alex
You got enemies.
Idk if people don't know, but Nintendo's "esports" game is definitely smash, whether it be Melee or Smash 4. Although Nintendo doesn't really support the scene too much

0:16 😂
is Alex Valle married ??
Dark2Zone he has kids, not sure if married or divorced.
Dark2Zone To Street Fighter, yeah.

alex valle is such a g. wise xdfp man
i wish i was a 20 year old cal bimbo so i could become alex valle's trophy wife
Valle still wears that shirt, just that now it fits him like a muscle shirt.

Captive fans are so easy to exploit by making a crappy sequel on the cheap. Hollywood has known this for years.
Slightly disappointed with the interview, unfortunately.

nobody wants soccer moms at tournaments regulating speech lmao.
capcom at least spend some of our money on acting classes to help valle with his laugh
Resume - This game sucks, but Valle don't want to say it.
Mr Capcom Shill
