  • New Zealand homes are damp, mouldy and cold - and there is mounting evidence that they may be killing us. Read more 👉 thespinoff.co.... Subscribe 👉 bit.ly/2FRLOZ4
About 1,600 New Zealanders die prematurely every winter because of poor quality housing. More than 40,000 children are hospitalised for housing-related conditions; around 15 die. And those who survive are 10 times more likely to die before they reach their 20th birthday.
How did things get this bad?

We moved to Australia 3 years ago. Into a newer home with insulation and ducted heating. We have not become sick at all! In NZ we would be sick a ridiculous amount of times a year.
When we think about our childhoods and life before Australian home and how normal it was to have mould at the back of your bed, on the walls, condensation on the walls, the wet blankets during the night, the breath of fog inside when you breathe on cold winter days...
It just blows my mind that it is acceptable! It's a normal thing in NZ.
I strongly believe the homes of NZ were the reason we were sick so often!

I pray to the Almighty to hear the pleas of these people and to respond to those suffering from the same danger of moldy & aging housing.

I rent a house from accessiable homes, which used to be owned by housing nz. This is the second house I've rented, that has the worse mould, black mould caused by roof needs repairs. Mould is worst in two bedrooms, especially the ceilings. Both of my children especially the girl is always sick, the boy never used to be sick, at all. Tenancy manager and property manager don,t care, as I,ve constantly told them the illness my children has, caused by the mould issue. It is concerning to myself how lacks the systems we have in NZ not to have immediate help, considering the damage mould causes to our well being. Seeking persons to help me with this issue, is like looking for a needle in a haystack. When I do find someone, they can't get any positive information, from accessiable homes, to fix this problems, and soon give up the mission themselves.Honestly, what is this country coming to, that we are trapped in poor conditions and watching our love ones suffered.Unfair to say the least.I support your video 100% and admire the people on this video, for their open and honest interview, if there's an answer to this problems, please reply.

F Robinson Moving out of NZ has always been the case, I have learned now that this is wrong. The time has come to make a stand. We have the opportunity to change whats has occurred in NZ for many years that is with elected politicians who are no longer working for the ppl and have not been doing so for many years. Mr Trump is advocating for all ppl to stamp out the Elites reset of this planet and expose the corrupt politicians and bankers, and NZPP is standing for freedom and democracy, its time to make a stand. Mould in homes has been here always, having health issues because of it, no politician cares in NZ.

Did it get fixed under the healthy homes act? I’m surprised how many homes passed not up to heathy standards

How the hell were these houses allowed to be built? Is there no regulation in NZ?

These are houses built by the government to fill housing quotas a long time ago. You can see how this happened.

Mew zealand seems to me like a trial for how badly can ppl be treated and still be considered first world country. Just recently they added 'regulations' which are honestly a laugh and a half in itself. I'm from central Europe and our 200 years old houses are warmer than these cottages they call houses and sell for top $. Healthcare in crisis, housing in crisis, schooling in crisis and small unrests are just starting. We're in for a ride here 4sure. Definitely didn't meet my expectations here, still trying, over a decade but it's horrifying and if I didn't have second family here I'd be back in eu already
