Michael Korb has always had a fondness for bagpipe music. When he came to Berlin after graduating from school in 1975, he immediately took lessons on the unusual instrument from the "pipe major" of a Scottish battalion. When the Scots left, Michael Korb also went to Edinburgh, where he took daily lessons from the already 80-year-old master Paddy Atkinson. During the day in his gazebo and in the evening (because of the neighbors) in the forest. He was drawn there again and again for several years until he mastered the instrument accordingly.
After the release of a disc with disco-style bagpipe music in 1979 and the fortunate encounter with the experienced and very successful arranger, producer and composer Uli Roever (who worked for Udo Jürgens and Peter Maffay, among others), the jointly developed melody finally came about. Highland Cathedral". Both were convinced of their chances of success - not so the publishers. Despite their rejection at the time, the melody has sought its way into people's hearts - often in an unusual way - since 1982.
