Danish String Quartet performs the Haydn Quartet Op. 64 No. 2 at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, Israel, May 2015. Concert series Music Director: Ilan Rechtman Video: Gilad Shabani
Almost nothing in music is ‘revolutionary’ (clickbait), but is in nearly all cases ‘radical evolutionary (not clickbait); this magnificent quartet is as you rightly point out, the latter (as is everything in Beethoven often loosely and carelessly described as the former).
This music is nearly 250 old and it is as fresh and satifying as ever it has been. Mr Tost must have been delighted with this C major gem. The Danish Quartet do it justice in spades. Well done and thankyou.
The 1st violin parts for Op. 54 are very tough -- harder than some concertos. But never virtuosity for its own stake -- there's always wit, good taste and some real emotional depth. The Danish have been one of the world's best quartets for a while now -- play with precision, verve and sensitivity.
oh for a cd of them performing this - truly sublime. I already delight in their ECM recordings of traditional Danish music, and am now even more impressed by their versatile musicianship.
Op. 54 # 2 is one of the few Haydn quartets I never knew until this week. The form is extraordinary in every way. As usual, you guys tickle me with elegance in every movement.
This is quite wonderful, stylish and also deeply expressive playing in the finale. Can we have more performances of the Danish String Quartet playing Haydn?
What a wild ride this quartet is! It seems to be a stream of conscious improvisation all the way through! And so very serious: And it's Haydn! ?What the heck was happening in his life at this moment of composition - Opus 54...?
I am here for the 2. 4:30 . My god, it is like the healing hand of mother earth cupping around the wounded souls of mankind. If I can't compose something more fitting, this will be my 'Trauerfeierlied' (death ceremony song in english I suppose).
Now that I've listened to FJ's Op 54 #2 more than 15 times, I think that Beethoven might have learned from Haydn what to accomplish in his own Op. 127-135.
@@geoffreykeen3989 You misunderstood my reply… It wasn’t a good idea to leave out the repeat - I’m agreeing with you 100%. In the music of Mozart and Haydn, then Beethoven as well, it is totally wrong to ignore the composers’ da capo instructions as it unbalances both the movement, and the work as a whole.
@@elaineblackhurst1509 Many thanks for the clarification - obviously a big difference between agreeing that it wasn't a good idea and saying it wasn't left out. I don't know why even the best ensembles think it's OK to play fast and loose with repeats. Of course the music still works - it's great stuff - but it's always reduced. My golden rule: always do all repeats. Kind regards.
A year later, they are even more wonderful, The slow introduction to the finale is one of the most beautiful Haydn, or anyone else, ever wrote.
That 2nd movement, come on..... heavenly
The cleanest playing of any quartet I've ever heard.
This is how Haydn should be performed ! Alive and vibrant and big sounding. With wit and charm and energy too. Great performance.
1. Vivace 0:04
2. Adagio 4:32
3. Menuetto - Allegretto 7:45
4. Finale - Adagio | Presto 11:20
The beauty and passion of this piece is wonderfully portrayed by this quartet, Bravo!
Thank you very much for this splendid performance, congratulations !
The slow movement is smashing, totally revolutionary.

Their is no evolution in music or art or there would be something better than this, or art better than the Lascaux Caves.@@elaineblackhurst1509
Thank you for sharing this superb performance of the amazing op54 no.2.

that's because pretty much everything that came after it has been a regression compared with this high point in the western musical tradition.
It's amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Très belle interprétation, pour une des plus belles œuvres de Haydn, un rien sous-estimée à mon humble avis !

Bravissimi. Almost perfect!

Fabulous! The cello arpeggios in the third movement are magnificent. Such complete poise.
fourth movement
Merci d’avoir attiré l’attention sur ces arpèges du violoncelle, magnifiquement mis en valeur par les trois autres musiciens.
Данский квартет этот - просто находка, одно только наслаждение. Спасибо, ребятя, комплименты.
The sense of ensemble could not be more perfect!

Cello in 2:46 Just fabulous!
Are you sure you meant 2’46”? If so - what am I specifically looking for ?
Very nice!
Nice to get a new insight to 250 years ago, so pretty much the same?

This is actually Opus 54 #2. Beautifully done, though.

Joseph Haydn’s Opus 54 No 2 a truly great masterpiece.

Whoever assigned this loves you. What a gift!
Me too 😂
Pick up anything useful?
Fine playing, but what on earth made them think that leaving out the first movement exposition repeat was a good idea?
It wasn’t.
@@elaineblackhurst1509 It was.

I spiller smukt … en fornøjelse at lytte til og fortolkningen er frisk og anderledes Mange Tak for uploaden ..
Blonds have more fun if they play Haydn.
Wow, those waiters sure can play!
