Beautiful intricate work! One small point: The Rising Sun Disc (Hinomaru) was considered Sacred to Shinto/Japanese culture, so it was VERY RARE to see any Aircraft, no matter how worn and untidy their main paint job became, with worn or scratched Hinomaru markings. The Crew Chief would have the Hinomaru "Fixed" ASAP, if any damage at all was noticed after combat. It doesn't mean you shouldn't put a light wash over them, just ensure that it is ONLY in the Panels & rivets and does not stain the red marking noticeably. (Literally the whole crew could be severely punished if the Hinomaru were found to be "imperfect" and that was not a joke as they could be and were beaten with rods....)

3:19 Post-shading with the base color rather than than the usual black is a great idea. It gives the model a more realistic look.

Sorry didn’t hear you right. Did you apply gloss cost to the painted model, then chipping and black wash, then a final flat coat ?

Yes. Gloss or satin is ok for enamel washes because it help you clean the excess wash much easier. And when every weathering technique is applied you can protect it with a flat coat

The cool plane that was never used in the war. Any with wear & tear would be questionable. You have minor wear on yours & I can't help but question it. They were barely used before Hiroshima & Nagasaki. Unless Japan was using incredibly cheap paint. I have this kit. Unbuilt in my stash because of a review on it saying simply,.."Bad." So I bought it to see for myself knowing it was basically a post war aircraft that never went into production except the handful that were around. But, it is one beautiful looking aircraft. Like a Kate in a bikini. Nice job on yours though. I love it & mine will look just like it.

It was used, coming into service about December of 44. But, at that stage the IJN had no carriers capable of employing it, so it was land based, mostly within the Home Islands so saw very little action as it was too big and slow for an attack plane or Kamikaze. Only about 200 were completed . Essentially the plane was a Japanese attempt to build a torpedo bomber like the American Grumman Avenger. Only 2 years too late...
