Redefining modernism and taking it out of the clutches of Kolkata is important, especially the Brahmanical aspect of it, but it would be wrong to see Eastern Bengal and Bangladesh as a strict compartmental category and forgetting the continuity with West Bengal and in fact the whole of South Asia.
Quite insightful. However, his ideas suffer from the same issues he is trying to refute. He wants to remove generalization from every aspect of any discourse as if every event is to be taken anew. But in the process of doing so, he generalized his very core thesis - particularism is his way to generalize everything while trying to abandon the concept of generalization! That's ironic. He contradicted himself in other ways, too. For example, he is asking for democratic process to be followed to decide whether boys and girls inherit equally but does not raise question about the democratic process itself. Although he is against taking anything for granted, how come he agreed upon the "western democracy" to be applicable to solve this particular "Bangladeshi" problem of inheritance? In the end, he despised the post-modernist but only to hide, rather unsuccessfully, that he is one of them. Therefore the inconsistency in his core argument is not so surprising as expected from a post-modernist. The typical ways in which post-modernists convolute and create confusion about long-settled issues are quite evident in him. Off course he made some valid points (especially about communalism) since some of the problems indeed need particular solution rather than generalized solution. But lastly, I will follow his closing remark - "stay away from post-modernists".
You missed his points by a country mile!! He said Bangladeshi modernization is yet to come. But in order to realize it, we cannot take categories directly from both Kolkata and Western society. Then, he elaborates on the problem with this approach and says that we have to make our own category by own analylic process instead of importing ready-made category from other countries.
Agree Saumitra , He was in a loop of defining generalisation and he was proposing countering western ideology by using western methodology without proposing what will be the alternate methodology of knowledge for us! For him methodology of science or generalization is not universal but it is European provincialism . No wonder why continental philosophy is so influential in our thinking.
You mentioned SUDRA is a higher cast that is not correct. SUDRA is the lowest one in cast system. Please listen your lecture between 36 to 43 minutes. I am not sure this is a mistake or ignorance.
