@@barbarajoycemartin-dowell3138 This is a big part of the problem. I don't know what the solution is.
The important thing in the order of operations is to remember that first you address whatever is in parenthesis, then you address any exponents. Then you think of division and multiplication as a single step, meaning that you work the equation from left to right, doing any multiplication or division as you come to it in the equation. You do whichever of the two comes first in the equation. After you do the multiplication and/or division, you do the addition and/or subtraction as a single step, again working from left to right, doing whichever comes first.

When simplifying proper fractions I always taught my students to find the highest common number that would go into both the numerator and the denominator. That way you could arrive at a fraction in its lowest terms
HOW TO SIMPLIFY FRACTIONS THE EASIEST WAY: If the difference between the numerator and denominator is 1, the fraction cannot be simplified. A. Ask: does the numerator go into the denominator evenly (i.e. without any remainder)? If yes, proceed to B. If not, proceed to C. B. Great! The simplest fraction is 1 over the number of times the numerator fits in the denominator. (e.g. 20/60, 20 fits evenly 3 times, hence 1/3.) C. Write the remainder, (e.g. 20/46, (20 fits 2 times in 46, with a remainder of) 6.) to the right of the fraction, and ask: does the remainder go evenly into the numerator? If yes, proceed to D. If not, proceed to E. D. Great! The "remainder" is the Greatest Common Factor. Divide both the numerator and denominator by the GCF/remainder to have the simplest fraction. E. Write the "new remainder" (using the last example, 20/46, 6 fits into 20 with a "new remainder" of 2) to the right of the previous "remainder", and ask: does the "new remainder" fit evenly into the previous "remainder" (2 into 6)? If yes, proceed to D. If not, proceed to E.

I think you do the same in your classes too , just to check your students attention and concentration . I love your video anyway despite being away from school for sixty years .🙊
I don't know how I went on from algebra to advanced placement calculus in high school. My algebra was so poorly understood (I was very good with geometry). I think I just hung out with smart nerds, who let me cheat off of them. It scarred my psyche. I had recurrent nightmares for years where I would be back in 12th grade high school having to take a math exam that would allow me to graduate. Going through your videos is like seeing a therapist. And it is so much fun. Thank you.
Some teachers intentionally try to make things sound more complicated, probably so they can feel smarter & others will see them as being more intelligent. There's topics that I know and have taught but I always explain in a way that everyone can understand.
I just want to say thank you for making this easy for me to understand. I haven't been in school doing fractions since 2008 and you made it so easy for me to do them. thank you.
this video amazed me with how I was able to quickly relearn fractions! I want to give myself the credit, however most of it goes to you for your easy to follow methods. Thanks!
So I appreciate the crash course very much and I know this was not intended to be a comprehensive discussion, but where math teachers every where fail, is showing practical applications. I did not discover why I needed to know this until I got into ham radio a little over 30 years ago. There are a number of practical applications in electricity, electronics, construction, manufacturing, inventory control, and even recipe conversion that explain the need to know this, but seldom is it demonstrated. We desperately need to have other disciplines in school such as shop, home economics, and science to coordinate, or at least do far more story problems than math classes do now. I once had to explain fikguring fractions and percentages to my father because he needed to know it as an owner-operator truck driver. A common saying goes "why do I need to learn this? I will never use this anyway".
I'm only 10 and I struggle with fractions a lot like I don't know what operation to use on this or that, but this video REALLY helped me a lot hehe thanks for helping me!

I’m in yr6 and only the first 5 mins of the video makes sense to me
@@3XCube86 same, goodluck.
@@3XCube86 Then watch and pause as many times as necessary and keep an exercise book and make notes that YOU can follow. Good luck from a very ancient lady.
Thank you John, after 40 yrs out of school I find myself taking a math course and fractions have always been a problem, now I think with your help, " I've got this " !
Yayyy!! Same here🤗 I feel Smart Now😁 I 'm learning Pre algebra and this Vid hit the Spot.
THANK YOU! , I'm 28 and I haven't gone over this in ages. I have a firefighter exam coming up so I needed to refresh my math skills, you honestly explain things so perfect.
Curious did you pass the exam, I’m studying for firefighting exam for tomorrow
Everyone makes mistakes, the key is understanding the process AND catching the mistakes BEFORE handing it in or publishing it ....
Earendil Penrose yes however when you are teaching, showing a method is supposed to make sense and it becomes confusing when the teacher makes the error as it no longer makes sense
Exactly. I see that this teacher is trying to help out these young kids and adults who are in need of learning. So that they are not being hoodlums on the street and living off of society and the government
Go and make your own video without errors then, no one is forcing you to watch this. But hey you can't make video because you can't even do fractions from 7th grade.
..THAT'S WHY YOU ALWAYS DOUBLE-CHECK YOUR OWN WORK..MATH HAS FEW ACTUAL 'GRAY' AREAS..IT'S USUALLY RIGHT OR WRONG..#5 HE LEFT AT 15/24, INSTEAD OF SIMPLIFYING IT TO 5/8....YOU 'ALWAYS' SIMPLIFY IT, WHEN POSSIBLE..
we always think..Guru can not go wrong..If guru says 2+2=5

I graduated 19 years ago, and this is the easiest demonstration to fractions that I've encountered. I understood it so much more than I did when I was actually in school Thank you so much for this!
im a college freshman and i completly forgot how to do most types of math from highschool, so im taking a pre algebra course before i take a calc class, and now i have a math exam tomorrow at 8am. this helped me prepare perfectly, thank you. If youre reading this and are in highscool and plan to go to college, please just remember just a little bit of math because most majors will require some type of math course.
Its good to refresh your mind when you've stopped doing math for a long time friends. Thanks for sharing
😂
Forgot so much from school, currently relearning alot of maths so thank you for being so clear! Very helpful, look forward to watching more of your stuff 😀
Don't listen to the above, he thinks 10x21 is 21 and 10 over three is 3 and a half lol
True I don’t know what this dude said
Thank you. I am 81 years old and was a little fuzzy on some of this. I am a pen turner and that involves measuring and knowing how to deal with fractions, so this refreshed my memory.
Seriously I'm like 35 and I have been struggling with math ever since elementary school. This was so simple and I get it!! Thank you so much for this video!!!
Me too
exactly
Thank you! Very well explained. I used to love maths in school, now in my late 30s I am at Uni and it feels good to recall things I used to know quite well.
Thank god you came along! After more than 50 years, I need this!
Awesome. I didn't even care that the 7 min took 14 minutes. So simple and easy to understand - thank you!
He teaches it well. Love the “bow tie “ method, it does the same thing by saving a step or two. The only problem is that he loves his 1/2 fraction so much that he uses it when it should have a denominator with a 3.;)
I had to go back because I thought that was wrong. Lol but I’m glad I caught that. I must be smart
I thought the same lol
Correct
I am 12 years old and used to be really good at fractions, after the summer I forgot all fractions, my teacher singed me up for tutoring and I’m scared to make a bad impression, so..I’m relearning fractions before then, you have helped me very much, thank you
Thank you so much for your math learning videos. I am going back to college and i have been learning so much more from all your videos then I ever learned in four years of high school!
Same! Going back to school after 13 years 🤣Working on math before taking my placement tests lmao.
Thank you so much for the refresher course. I wished you had been my teacher back in the days. You made it so simple.
Thank you to Kernel Young....I was confused when the answer came up 7/2 - 7/2. I am in my 70's and wanted a brush-up course. Thank you
Hello 👋 how are you?
I'm tryna study for my asvab test haven't had to do math like this in over 10 yrs
I appreciate you, I am so grateful for finding you. You're an amazing teacher. It's been forever since I've taken a math class and I found your method of teaching is very helpful so Thank You.
Where have u been all my life I never felt like I understood fractions until now. Wow!!! 36yrs old and needed a refresher trying to go back to school. Def wish u were my math teacher maybe I would have liked math. Thank you!!!
Thank you for sharing these quick and easy to understand refreshers courses! Definitely, a great help for those of us who need just a quick👍 reminder!

Awesome. You just took 7 years of my life and converted them into 7 minutos
I hated algebra in junior high and high school. You not only made it understandable but practical and interesting! you get an A+!
Well i have never done algebra .My teacher sent us this video for FRACTION( OBVIOUSLY). But i think algebra is made up of percentages fractions and problems.Dont worry its ez once u dont think too hard
28 year old getting ready to take the ASVAB.. this video is GOLD. Dusted off some cob webs. Not mad that it went over time. Thanks!
I’m a grade 11 who hasn’t done math in 2-3 years due to moving and covid, this helped me a lot.
Sad.BUT HOW THEHELL CANN YOY LIVE QITOUT MATHyvebdhyzhwbsyxhdbxyskshzhsh
Absolutely perfect! excellent video! I was an Ace in math in high school doing algebra geometry calculus trigonometry and I've forgotten every single bit of it lol this was a perfect reminder of the simple fractions
youre a hero! I'm doing integral calculations and you need to simplify fractions the whole and I had no idea how, but now I do!
Omg your the only teacher I understand I’m trying to get into the LVN Program and don’t understand fractions to pass the test but your such a blessing your great you don’t stress me out thank you 🙌🏻
Thank you very much I’m 30 and I have a 7th grader and I needed that refesher

Dont feel bad. I swear they change math every year lol
Goes to show how much you actually need to know.

I learned fractions later in grade school. This was a great refresher! The add and subtract steps were an added variation for me. Thank you.
I haven't been in school for over 30 years... so, this definite refreshes my long forgotten math :).
Hi
I'm 35 and going back to college for the first time starting this Fall. I have forgotten so much math (it's been 18 years!). Thanks for the reminder about fractions!
Thank you so much I forgot about fraction and due to Covid-19 My son is Home-Internet-school and I have to help him out...
Your a life saver...

Thank you
i thought 10/3 was 3and1/3 not 3 and1/2 as you wrote.
Did the same mistake on the last exam
Kevin C that’s what I noticed and confused me
he is wrong.3x3=9 and 9+1=10 which would be 10/3.
No really I thought the same thing. Yu keep the same denominator n add the remainder (1) to top to make fraction. So was we wrong all along??
honest mistake but still goes to show not every math video post is correct
I have watched videos for two weeks, nothing compares to this! Thank you!!!!!
This was great! No one has ever explained fractions to me this way while in school so I’ve always hated them. Thank you!

38 yr old mother of 5 going back to school!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!🥹
When simplifying proper fractions I always taught my students to find the highest common number that would go into both the numerator and the denominator. That way you could arrive at a fraction in its lowest terms
HOW TO SIMPLIFY FRACTIONS THE EASIEST WAY:
If the difference between the numerator and denominator is 1, the fraction cannot be simplified.
A. Ask: does the numerator go into the denominator evenly (i.e. without any remainder)?
If yes, proceed to B.
If not, proceed to C.
B. Great! The simplest fraction is 1 over the number of times the numerator fits in the denominator. (e.g. 20/60, 20 fits evenly 3 times, hence 1/3.)
I am so grateful to find you. I am 64 years old and I lost my husband and I am having to go back to school and take math test for jobs. I learned the binary but not mch more growing up. All these years I have needed to learn math and it was like an incomplete something I need to learn. It was hanging over my head. Math is hard for me and so much to learen in as short time. I hope you did well with your test. I'm starting my college career late also. I studied (math)for 4 months before taking my placement test. I did so good on the test I started at the college level Algebra (Algebraic Concepts). This semester my 2nd. I'm now in Pre-Calculus. I have a 4.00 GPA with an "A" in math. I'm also 67 years young. Goid Luck on your journey !!!
Well I’m 55 and I’m writing the Pert math test tomorrow so I can make my way to college
High good luck years needed algebra to graduate from college. I took remedial math, got my confidence and love of math. Found a great instructor for algebra and passed. Good luck.

I’m actually in 4th grade and really struggling with fractions, and this video made me approach fractions a lot easier. I’ve seen big changes in my grades because I used to have an F in math and now I have a B, but I have a big test tomorrow and if I pass I’ll get an a and get ab honor roll. Thank you for this video :)
I’m in 8th grade… Here to review for RAEs
Thank you Sir for helping a 57 year old retired state police officer learn math again. Sure appreciate. love ittt
You have several mistakes because you're rushing but the third problem is 3 1/3 not 3 1/2. And the last problem is 7/2 × 3/7 when you do the reciprocal but you have taught how to solve fractions well. I especially like that bowtie method. Thank you!
I'm currently studying Math as a mature student, and your videos have been so helpful in explaining problems in a way that helps me both understand and retain the information! Thank you so much, I really appreciate the time that it takes for you to create these videos :)

I love maths a lot actually I adore maths and I love to find new tricks to solve a problem 😊💗💗
Thank you for this video. It’s been years since I’ve been in school and now having to help my daughter who’s in elementary with her fractions. I really need this review. 😊
Thank you your videos are super helpful, Im getting my GED and passed all subjects except Math and it was because the majority was FRACTIONS iv been looking for videos that break it down.
with this knowledge you dont make such a mistake on number 2 and 7 🙂
i think its intentionally written to see if your viewers catch the errors .
I think you do the same in your classes too , just to check your students attention and concentration .
I love your video anyway despite being away from school for sixty years .🙊
haha i was thinking to myself seven halves wouldn't equate to 2 and a third. or ten thirds wouldn't be 3 and a half aswell lol
Thanks, I thought I was going nuts!
Thank you.
I wish I had this in High School I really hated how my teachers taught me, could've been more successful learning like this.
true even in elementary days. also got bullied in school regarding math so i never had the courage to study math before
Some teachers intentionally try to make things sound more complicated, probably so they can feel smarter & others will see them as being more intelligent. There's topics that I know and have taught but I always explain in a way that everyone can understand.
Please CORRECT your video, at 1:52 the answer should be 3 1/3 and at 13:23 the answer should be 7/3
I second that
Thank you Jorge I thought I was wrong.
Jorge is right. I spotted that too
The second is wrong

Thank you, you made it so simple to understand! And Fast!
I'm only 10 and I struggle with fractions a lot like I don't know what operation to use on this or that, but this video REALLY helped me a lot hehe thanks for helping me!
