I've always been amazed by people who can hear a song pick up an instrument and play it pretty much instantly. It's something you born with I think. I got a friend I grew up with that can do this too and I swear it used to just blow be away. Even to this day I'm damn near 40 years old and every time I hear some good guitar work I think about him. I’m blushing over you blushing over Taylor. Like it’s a whole thing man. Love all your videos with her in it. And I agree with you 100%. With her (especially her acoustics) It’s not just about being the best at everything and show off your super advanced complicated skills in a performance. It’s about using what you know the right way at the right time to create this magical, intimate, emotional performance and deliver the meaning of the songs to create a connection with the audience. That’s why people loooooove Taylor so much. Us swifties know, some song could get lost in a production but the song, the story, and the emotion is always there. I know dancing with our hands tied and out of the woods are really good emotional songs. Some people disliked it because of the production but when she performed it live acoustic. They get it. They understand why it’s a good song. But her production is also complimenting the lyrics most times. Some people just blatantly disliked her based on the radio hits and her simple chords. But taylor is way more than that. And you recognizing it is so so cool.

13:20 the mini rant is exactly what I’ve been saying. She’s not just a singer. She is a true performer.
If you are interested, she has a couple of performance with a 12 string guitar (she actually learned to play in a 12 string). Also, in her concerts she always leaves a section open and she plays a different song every night acoustic, so you have a lot a material there. Btw, I love this series because you not only explain how to play the song but you also talk about the importance of strumming patterns and mixing things up which ultimately is what makes the performance. Keep it up!

Loveeeed this! I just started learning last week (after putting my guitar down for 10 years after struggling to play Taylor's song "Our Song") and I can't wait to some day be able to play some of her songs.
As a huge Taylor Swift's fan, I appreciate this!!! She is the reason I started to teach myself guitar. And anyone who thinks she is not a good guitarist is so wrong. She is the queen in music industry, and a good songwriter. Thank you for the video!

The earliest recorded full performance of Taylor that I know of was indeed over 15 years ago - January, 2005. She was sponsored by Taylor Guitars back then and performed at a trade convention to promote their guitars. She performed Your Face, Your Anything and Beautiful Eyes.

She was doing a lot of karaoke when she was 9-12 or so and then started performing her own songs wherever they'd let her when she was around 13, one of the first places was apparently a cafe at the Jersey Shore where her family spent the summers. I think when she was 14-16 she was performing quite a lot at bars and other small venues in Nashville.
That's super cool to know. I remember seeing old videos of her playing Taylor guitars, but it seems like she just plays Gibsons now.

That person who complained about the queen probably never picked up a guitar. What I see that strumming is really difficult. Plus worrying about changing fingers on the other hand and then concentrating on singing. She is a genius.
I always mess up the strumming when I try to sing while playing guitar ;-;

Also, I realized she hammer the first down g strumming in the intro and the first, the 2d finger on the 6th string, and the hammer and take off the 1st finger in the 3rd string at the first down strum at the measure, just on the intro and the post 1st chorus!

Some of my favorite acoustic performances from her (other than wildest dreams which has already been mentioned a lot) are king of my heart (this is one is neat because she's not on stage or anything, just her playing guitar at an engagement party), gorgeous live in chicago, and I don't wanna live forever live in 2016.
Another neat one to check out is her playing call it what you want from the clip in her documentary, it's not the full song and there's a lot of talking as well so it might not work for a video like this but it's a fun one to watch because it's just a home video of her sitting on the floor of her living room playing it.

I'm so stoked that you are taking a deep dive into Taylor's live acoustic performances! I love to see other musicians appreciating her art as much as I do. You can look at just about any metric you want-- prolificacy, album sales, ability to tell a story and convey emotions through song, etc-- and Taylor will outshine anyone you put her up against. I have been going to her tours for yearsss and it always amazes me how in a stadium of 60,000+ people, she makes you feel like she's speaking directly to you. I can't say enough about what a powerhouse she is.
With that said, I agree with many of the other commenters' suggestion to make a video about Taylor's acoustic rendition of Dancing With Our Hands Tied! It's a great one :)

I literally NEVER comment on vids but this is by far THE BEST Taylor tutorial I have ever seen!
