  • From belly fat to cognitive function - menopausal symptoms can wreak havoc on a woman's life. On this episode Dr. Lisa Mosconi, leading neuroscientist, nutritionist and Director of the Women’s Brain Initiative and the Alzheimer's Prevention Program at Weill Cornell/New York Presbyterian tells us how to protect our brain as we age, stay vital, and maintain a healthy weight. Plus she discusses the pros and cons of HRT (hormone replacement therapy), the breast cancer/hormone connection, and top strategies to manage postpartum, perimenopause, and help prevent Alzheimer’s using exercise, diet, stress reduction, and more.

Ladies….if you want THE most thorough education on MENOPAUSE you have to check out Menopause Taylors TH-cam channel….she’s a very educated OB GYN doc and such a fun and whimsical teacher….watch her videos in order…I’m 54 and I am so grateful to have found her information….our doctors do not have the time to educate us as thoroughly as Dr. Barbara Taylor (aka Menopause Taylor) 🙌🏼♥️♥️♥️

Please consider, removing breast implants, it saved my life! I was having all pre menopausal symptoms. That night, I could breathe and my brain fog was gone.

I’m 56 and post-menopausal due to an endometrial ablation in 2016, which was the treatment for a crazy heavy period that just would not stop. I was having really crazy night sweats and occasional annoying hot flashes. Over the counter Estroven has been a LIFESAVER!

Many HMOs and providers are not trained in newest research and many refuse to help women with hormones-. I am now seeing Naturopath MD privately- however the bioidentical hormones I am on are threatened - the current pharmacy is concerned that legislation will eventually shut them down. My HMO doctor wanted to treat my hormone-related symptoms with pharmaceuticals. Women deserve to feel better in the last 40% of our lives and hopefully this will change with education. What can we do?

I agree 💯. No access to menopause specialists in my area and naturopathic providers are too expensive and can’t afford it.

I'm going through perimenopause with hot flashes and all the other symptoms. I tried hormone replacement but it made my blood pressure go through the roof. I have to go through it naturally. This is very informative.

So informative. Thank you so very much. I have been in menopause for over a year now. The lack of energy and sleep disturbances (for me) is what has been so disheartening. I am finding that eating clean and making movement even just a power walk, meditation, fresh air can totally transform my day and boost my energy.

I have to take hormone blocking medication for 5 years because I had hormone responsive breast cancer this year. 1 in 8 women are at risk for breast cancer. Get your mammograms ladies! It saved me. So grateful.

Im 47 and started going through menapause about 3 or 4 years ago. As I started so early my gyno put me on HRT to help suport my heart and bones even though my mum had breast cancer when she was only 54. I definitely get brain fog and currently not sleeping well and I'm always exhausted

You really need to look at the natural hormone replacement therapy. It includes all 3 hormones you need and it's safe.

Question! I find when I'm really stressed I loose my menstrual cycle whether thats from excessive bouts of exercise without enough nutrition or stress from day-to-day life. When I'm less stressed my hormones are more balanced but I'm really interested about how that affects hunger hormones. Are we more hungry when estragon is low or when it is high? Hunger is a massive part of my PMS problems. The week before menstruation I have no satiety from food and my body craves so much food. I have to work hard to not eat everything in sight and try wait for it to pass but I can't resist the sugar cravings. Is this because of a sudden drop in estrodyle which I also experience when losing my periods or is it more to do with stress hormones?

Jillian, you’re a fabulous person and I respect what you’re doing here and beyond - but perhaps bring on someone who has been through menopause to chat too? You and I are the same age and I’ve heard you say you have not gone through menopause (me neither although I believe going through peri menopause.) Your guest is great but she looks too young to have experienced it herself. Having someone who has been through and on the other side would be good. Thanks!

I'd prefer someone who is an expert and well versed in recent research and can give us the facts and science behind menopause vs. hearing someone speak about their personal experiences with menopause. Those reports can be found anywhere online.
